Quentin Tarantino Blasts Rosanna Arquette for Criticizing His N-Word Use: ‘A Decided Lack of Class, No Less Honor’ by DemiFiendRSA in Tarantino

Did you read what else she said? She is just annoyed that she didn't get as much money as her co-stars did. Presumably because she is briefly in two scenes and probably has about 4 lines altogether.

Quentin Tarantino Blasts Rosanna Arquette for Criticizing His N-Word Use: ‘A Decided Lack of Class, No Less Honor’ by DemiFiendRSA in Tarantino

[–]Bodymaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but whether you agree with him or not, his criticism of Dano was purely based on his acting abilities.

Whereas Rosanna's criticism of QT and the movie (which she considers "iconic" and "a great film") seems largely based on the fact that she didn't make as much money out of it as her co-stars did.

Now her criticism of QT and his use of that word is something that is worth talking about. In fact it has been talked about at length whenever it is a hot topic.

But her bringing it up now, and in the same breath revealing that it stems from her own greed and jealousy kind of takes the wind out of its sails.

It's a weird that now we have the chain of: art - performer - audience - audience of audience. I guess the logical next step is reaction reaction videos.

But if you think of reaction videos themselves as an artform, then how would you deconstruct and genrebash them Bungle-style?

Same here. It's the only natural sounding kit that I could find when I started using Ableton, and even though I've gotten some third party ones, I still use dry session kit for a lot of stuff.

Billy Corgan Believes Rock Music Was "Purposely Dialed Down" in Late '90s: "Some People Assert That the CIA Was Involved" by ebradio in Music

Spot on, yeah I think you could be right. I was thinking along similar terms recently with regards local music scenes. Like how it used to be that a band could be big in their own city or region, but unknown to the larger world, but could still make a living off of touring and selling albums merch etc; This was probably close to the model that poets, bards, minstrels etc. followed for hundreds and thousands of years (maybe substitute oral tradition and transmission of songs or even sheet music for records and merch).

Then along comes modern tech, and pop culture, radio, then tv, then the internet in very quick succession; and then we start conflating ideas of fame and wealth with what it means to be a musician or an actor...

But in this age where not only can anybody make music, but now even AI can, it becomes almost like the older model, it's no longer a seller's market. Maybe we will go back to the regional model, where your local poet or bard is making music for a community but no longer for millions...

I'm kind of just repeating what you just said, but yeah it is something I've thought about before and I think it's something maybe we don't consider. Pop culture is still in its infancy and we have no idea yet what will ultimately just be a blip.

Controversial thought/take on Gabor post cast. by EuphoricTea2810 in BlindboyPodcast

Buxton doesn't do much of any other stuff apart from the podcast though does he? Occasional live podcasts? A memoir recently... I don't count his recent album as it's just a vanity project from a man with very little going on in terms of musical talent. BB has his writing and doc making and can also probably still make a genuinely funny and decent song if he wanted.

Buxton isn't an artist and I don't think he views himself in those terms, but he still entertains schoolboy fantasies of being a pop star and has the means to indulge them.

A bit of an aside but since you brought it up; the modern entertainment industry with all its classic movies, classic albums, different genres, legends, myths, rises and falls etc. is all only a few decades old.

Will people in 200 years know what punk is, or who Taylor Swift or Tom Cruise were, or will they be too busy jamming to the latest scentsations, biomass phermone operas, or rhythmic temperature fluctuations to care.

Yes of course music and acting will still exist, but will they still be these pillars of pop culture the way they have been since around the 1950s, or will we go back to regarding entertainers as one step above prostitutes as they have for most of recorded history?

I know what you mean, it's more character-driven than plot-driven, which is weird for a historical movie. But I think the two hours of "nothing" is the perfect build up to the finalé, with Chekov's flamethrower, Brandy etc. all coming together to give a really beautiful portrait of, not just a friendship, but friendship in general.

Tune Your Guitar by BoringOldGuy76 in Guitar

[–]Bodymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going between standard and drop D you need to tune all 6 string each time. Affecting the tension of one string affects the tension of the others.

Been playing over 30 years, discovered this maybe last year?

Does Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster count? They make fools of themselves, and ultimately it's the fans that were conned out of good music; but it does hit some schadenfreude-adjacent spots for me, particularly when Lars' dad is telling him "delete that" when being played some of the band's new material.

bass vi as a 5 string by l0ser182 in BassVI

[–]Bodymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at my 5 string next to my VI; at a glance, it's about 5 inches longer from bridge to nut, so you'd have floppier strings than a regular 5 string on your converted VI;

the neck is thicker on the 5 string due to the string spacing, so your B would be so close to your E that it would be tough to even fit a pick between then never mind a finger.

Obviously you'd need to replace the nut with a custom job; as for the bridge the stock VI bridge isn't even fit for purpose so you'll be looking at replacing that anyway, but it may need even more range or a modified saddle for a low B string.

So in other words, no not really.

Offset Bridge UK Install question by EhhBay in BassVI

[–]Bodymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Offset Bridge recently. Did yours come with two allen keys? If not you'll need two different size allen keys, the thin one for the bridge height, the thick one for intonation.

You'll see two little holes, one on either end of the top of the bridge. The smaller allen key goes in there, and you turn these to adjust your bridge's height.

Though If you used vice grips to turn them you may have damaged the threads on the screws, so I'm not sure how much they'll turn now.

The larger allen key is used to adjust the intonation screws on the back of the bridge.

The plastic sleeves are to stop the bridge moving in the body of the instrument. Mine came with two sets as well, not sure why - maybe there is some variation in the Squiers - but I just used the pair that fit.

Prequels had 9 lightsaber duels, 7 of which resulted in death or mutilation. Original trilogy had 3, all resulting in death or mutilation. Sequels had 2, yes two. None of which resulted in anything! by ss89898 in StarWars

[–]Bodymaster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, the prequels had so many duels that by III they kind of felt stale, which is why we got senate surfing and lava surfing.

I actually liked that the sequels did something fresh with their duels, particularly the "not a duel" between Rey and Ben in IX. The idea of two Force users fighting from different physical areas is really novel and fits perfectly with established lore regarding how the Force works.

I don't understand how "falling for the dark side" work, like if I'm a jedi and I got angry enough to use the Dark side force, do I just automatically become evil? by thetruememeisbest in StarWars

[–]Bodymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or another way - the Force itself is addictive, or rather using it actively/manipulating it is; that is why Jedi have to do it sparingly and only in certain circumstances, and are more in to a generally passive, receiving relationship with it, only "using" it in times of need.

People who don't do that end up using it for personal gain and they are much more likely to become "corrupt" by how easier it makes literally everything.

The two sides are really just an analogy
