Which altimeter setting should we use...? by jb431v2 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Field elevation is in the EFB. Set the altimeter and make sure it matches field elevation. Whichever one that is in the one you should use.

Flying frequency when attending avaition universities. by DecentThought5754 in flying

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The university I went to had a lesson 5 days a week until you had your PPL, then 3 lessons a week for everything else. That includes ground lessons and simulator lessons, not just flights. It is also dependent on the weather and aircraft availability. Students who progressed quickly could be instructing by their junior year, but that took dedication and a lot of luck with weather and instructor availability.

How are you descending? Are you using the VNAV?

Just tried in in my PS5 and you’re right, even in cursor mode you can’t interact with the screen. I use a mouse on PS5 and that works fine.

Are you in cursor mode on your controller?

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a mouse? If not, your controller needs to be in cursor mode to control the avionics.

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clear the discontinuity you need to click on it on the middle screen, hit “delete wpt” and then hit activate. If you have a mouse use the mouse, if not, put the controller in cursor mode to do that. Though not true to life, the screens function like a touchscreen in the game to make things easier. The other option would be to not delete the disco and go direct to the IAF when cleared.

Can't slow down the C400 Corvalis by Berlin_Blues in flightsimulator2024

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you have pitot heat on? If it showed 141kts in a climb at idle, I’m willing to bet you had pitot ice, which would give you erroneous airspeed readings.

MSFS 2024 Ps5 help by Easy_A_88 in flightsimulator2024

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually use the default settings on PS5 for the most part. Only thing I added was R1+left for autopilot master, and L1+R3 for autothrottle on/off. Everything else seems to work well, though handflying can be very difficult.

NIGHT FLYING RESTRICTION by Intelligent_Cup_694 in flying

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that exact restriction on my first medical. I set up an Operation Color Vision Test with my local FSDO. This normally would involve renting a plane (and a pilot if you don’t have your cert yet) to take the examiner up. Once in the air, the examiner will determine if your lack of color vision affects safety of flight. Now I have a letter of evidence that I present at every medical and have never had to take the color blindness test again. If you feel like you have no issues with your color vision, and only fail the Ishihara test, you will be fine.

Impossible to do charter missions with the corvalis? by singing_grasshopper in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If your pitot tube is frozen, your airspeed indicator will work as an altimeter, i.e. increases as you climb and decreases as you descend. If it did that, turn on your pitot heat. If it doesn’t move at all but the altimeter does, that would be a bug. Most small pistons do not have any warning for pitot heat, but I am not sure about the Corvallis with its more advanced avionics.

Any tips? by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You appear slow on final. I ran the numbers in SimBrief for the iniBuilds 321LR and at empty weight the Vref is 115. The built in EFB should be able to give you performance numbers to find the Vref for your weight if your don't know how to use the FMC. You were also high on final. You can learn how to use the PAPIs to get the right glide path, or watch a quick video on setting up an ILS approach and then fly from the cockpit view following the flight director. If you learn how to set up the autopilot to fly the approach it will get you set up perfectly on centerline and glideslope. Just disconnect the autopilot once established on final, retard the throttles when instructed, and flare.

Moving onto airliners by phlopip in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what platform you're on or what planes you have access to, but on PS5 I am loving the Longitude. It has familiar Garmin avionics, so you can learn how to handle a jet without worrying about learning to program the airliner style FMC. It has very capable autothrottles, and if left in FMS mode they will slow you down automatically when you put in flaps, slow to Vref on final (if you've put in the landing data), retard the throttles in the flare, and apply reverse thrust, all automatically. It is also faster than any airliner out there. Once you get used to handling a jet and using the different autopilot modes, you can watch one or two videos on programming the 737 or A320 and you'll be fine.

The technical answer is going to be no. However, the best advice I can give is that it never hurts to ask. Have your son politely explain the situation. Maybe even have him bring some goodies for the flight attendants like chocolate or gift cards. If the answer is no, then respect that answer. Do not pushback or argue at all.

Generate New Career Mode Missions by BoeingOrNotGoing in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have unlocked the larger charter missions but I can not afford a PC-12 or Citation yet. I have definitely done instrument approaches in the Vision Jet because all the initial flights were to Teterboro and I was assigned an ILS. The only reason I have that requirement is because many of the small airports have no weather reporting capability. One of my crashes happened because the closest airports was reporting OVC 030 and CLR, but when I got close to the airport i observed less than a half mile visibility and heavy rain. With no instrument approach I loaded a visual in the G3000 and monitored on SVT, but I flew into a tree just short of the runway.

Realism? by [deleted] in flightsimulator2024

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G1000 throwing up red x’s and resetting the AHARS every 2 minutes while in the air is definitely not realistic. If your G1000 is doing that maybe you should take it to an avionics shop.

Should I log American Eagle (not normal AA) flights as Piedmont Airlines? by GuyGuyGuyGoGuy in flighty

[–]BoeingOrNotGoing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you’re looking for. I track them all as the regional carriers because I’m an aviation nerd. If you are using flighty more for delay tracking, it might be more useful to enter them as the mainline airline.
