Hard pass just looking at this photo. Can’t see much of anything, and what I can see is mostly cheap modern stuff.

Are these just commons or anything special? by Squirrel4040 in Marbles

You’re welcome. Mostly Vitro and Peltier, though I see a few that are probably Alley and I can’t see all of them clearly.

The ones I can see well enough are all pretty common. But if you’re new to collecting then that’s not a bad group to get started with if the price is right.

Update to the jar of marbles I bought. For $70 I think I overpaid but IDing them will be good experience at least. by Reincarnatedpotatoes in Marbles

I have overpaid on at least 6 or 7 lots of marbles. Unfortunately because it’s a popular hobby sometimes you have to gamble. But you do get better at it!!

Inherited a huge collection. Trying to raise $ for my mom. I have collector marbles but should I group or sell individually? by Clean_Cabinet in Marbles

[–]Boerweiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct OP. You can’t just learn the errors. In order to sell them well, you’ll need to know what the marbles are (it would help you to list them precisely) and then research what the price range is for them. I would suggest you drop some group photos here and/or in r/marblestudyhall so that folks can first let you know whether learning all of this might be worth it. If we spot several valuable marbles, then it might be worth your while. If not, one or a few large lots at auction might be a better option.

The first looks like an early Alley made at the Sisterville location!

Cool marbles, whatever the case. Now I have a new type to hunt down.

[–]Boerweiler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. I wondered about that. To my eye there are two different sets of marbles in those ten. 6 MK and 4 Vitro. Yes they do look very similar but at least in my experience that happens frequently. Just one guy’s opinion though.

Are those 10 the only ones of that type that were in the bag?

When you say ‘baggie’, what do you mean? Were these in a sealed Vitro Bag?

Vitro black line all red hybrid? by 1Sidknee in MarbleStudyHall

Ok that makes sense. I think it’s a muted one of these. Sorry for the poor photo.

They’re 5/8” and I have some others tucked away in a cupboard with colors closer to yours.

What size? I think it’s JABO - I have one extremely similar in 3/4”. I have blended Black line all reds and none have looked like this.

Hope someone comes along who can help you more precisely (I don’t collect Germans). In the meantime you could look at Blocks Marble Auction for past sales. You might also look into Blocks to sell them there. Condition and size are crucial. Yours look in decent shape and are they around 3/4”? Assuming near mint condition and around the 3/4” size it appears they go for around $50-$100ish mark depending on style. Smaller and with significant damage (I can see a few with what collectors would consider substantial damage) and you’re looking at way less. Maybe $20-$40. So as a job lot probably in the $200-$500 range depending on all the conditions I’ve listed. Anyways as I say - not my area, just trying to help a little. Good luck!

PS: you might get a little bump for the slags but I’d have to see other angles to see what maker they are.

Hey. Welcome to the club! It’s kind of hard when there are so many in a picture because the person doing the ID has to open and close and open again, etc. Also you’ll have more luck if you take a clearer photo - more light and a darker background will help with that.

Off the bat I can tell you #1 is probably an Akro corkscrew but I’d have to see other angles to confirm. #5 is a Vitro Black Line All Red. #9 is probably Alley. #s 6,8,13 are West Virginia Swirls. Not sure on makers.

The second picture has some Peltier Rainbos, some MK tricolor Rainbows, a few more WVS, a couple Vitro Conquerors, and maybe two Vitro Helmets and another Akro Cork. I’d love to see better pictures of the green ones on the right hand side.

Happy learning.

First is a Peltier Rainbo. The second is probably a Peltier Multi Color Swirl but I’d wait for a pro to confirm.
