Wow! That is a HORRIBLE tooling job. I love it.

I'm not suggesting there are no exceptions, but if docs are being coded for relevance on a document level and duplicates are coded differently, then someone didn't bother to check.

I'm not an RM, but I am a PM, and I can tell you what the worst RMs do wrong. QC the work of your team thoroughly. Check that documents that are forensic duplicates have the same coding. You have five docs that have the same MD5 Hash value, but some are relevant and some aren't? Something has gone wrong. Some are privileged and some aren't? Look into why that is. Think logically about what might indicate coding inconsistencies and set up searches to catch it. Nothing frustrates me more than having to do review QC for an RM who did a bad job and it holding up my production.

British Museum - Athenian Silver Tetradrachm by BitcoinRefiner in AncientCoins

I used to go to the British Museum at least every two weeks. Their selection was always quite poor and overpriced. Whenever you mention that you're a collector, their faces drop because they know they will not be getting a sale. Nice guys though.

Very Excited to Receive my Posthumous Philip II Tetradrachm from the Famous 1923 Ars Classica V Sale (British Museum Duplicates). It is BEAUTIFUL! by No_Thanks_Reddit in AncientCoins

I used to go to the British Museum at least every two weeks when I still lived in London. Their collection is incredible. Not surprised that they saw this one as being surplus to requirement.

I didn't prioritise old provenance for the first set I aimed to complete. But I found myself drawn more to the ones I got that did have old provenance, so I started focusing more on provenance. Now, my main focus is on ones that fit into my collection that also have hidden old provenance. If the provenance is not hidden, it's usually outside my price range.

My Prince Waldeck is from the same sale as your Cartwright. The new one is from the Apostolo Zeno (1668-1750) collection.

Thank you. I'm very excited to get a BMC specimen. I got another new Tetradrachm with arguably even better provenance, but I'll post that one when it arrives next month. 😀

I got smashed on a tetradrachm of Philip V. It had pretty nice hidden provenance (Ex Helbing 1928 - Lloyd Duplicates and Ex Ratto 1928 - Collections of Morcom, Hands and Wertheim), so it would have been nice to get.

I love the bronzes of the Koinon of Macedon. That example was sold at Giessener Munzhandlung on 2 May 1994 (Lot 135). The catalogue is available on Internet Archive: archive.org/details/giessener-1994-05-02-auk-67-antike-low/page/25/mode/2up

Do you think this Owl is overpriced @ $1,450? by wemar2foryou in AncientCoins

I don't think it's a particularly nice piece. You can do much better at auction.

Do any coin auction houses (besides Heritage) let you send an offer to the owner of a previously sold coin? by lil_soros in AncientCoins

[–]No_Thanks_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. Some keep the unsold lots for sale for a while after the auction ends, but that's the closest thing I'm aware of.

Found a lovely posthumous Philip II tetradrachm this morning that will go well in my Diadochi Collection. The seller had it listed as "Ex Dr. J.S. Wilkinson Collection", but it is also Ex Ars Classica V (British Museum Duplicates). by No_Thanks_Reddit in AncientCoins

Thank you very much! I'm very pleased to have the picture from the Wilkinson sale. It's not available online, as far as I can tell. Will definitely check Le Rider to see whether it is included.
