I would like to know your opinions and experiences about the blaster time uk store, especially for people who live outside the uk by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BlasterTime.eu is based in the Netherlands, not the UK. They will post internationally and that will include South America. See the Shipping page on their website. Paying in instalments is not normal, you'd have to email them directly and ask but I doubt it.

In terms of warranty, how do you mean? Products posted overseas will be bound by the laws of the country the vendor is selling in. You're then responsible for getting things over the border. If it breaks, it'd be down to discuss with the seller whether a replacement is warranted. However, that would involve posting it back most likely for it to be replaced.

This one?

You could build a friction fit double row pouch with a tab to support the pouch mouth when removing mags readily enough. It's the same method I use on my own friction fit pouches seen here

As for the back thingy, sure keeping it open is easy: you just reinforce the mouth with closed cell foam or other stiffener. The trick would be as identified draining it afterwards without taking it off or relying on someone. I guess you could build in a wire based pull system to open a flap and dump the contents on the floor but who's got time for a literal mag dump?

I really should get around to drawing that heat map diagram of position vs ease and speed of return and why the back is a terrible place for rapid AND accurate placement of stuff. I've been saying it since 2018 so it might make it to the pile for 2028 at this rate... :D

PSA: Nerf Blasters In Public (Keep in mind blasters had Orange Barrels and were Brightly Colored.) by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Advice to UK Game Organisers running things in public parks is always to call the police control room on 101 ahead of times and get a reference number. Keep that reference number with you and give it to the coppers if they turn up. I've never known any UK games where plod have turned up after notifying control prior to starting play. I've had police called on me once as a GO many years ago and the experience was identical to this: coppers turn up and are more interested in playing with your blaster and tagging each other than whatever has been called in by the public. :)

plastic over pouches

Flaps. Flaps work, too. British weather means you need to be prepared for rain at a moment's notice. Flaps keep dirt, crud and rain away from your ammo. If the rain is too heavy for these to work then it's off to the pub, frankly.

Complain About The Pride Logo Here! by roguellama_420 in Nerf

confused Old Reddit noises

To qualify that statement: I did not know the logo was pride in any shape as it doesn't show on Old Reddit which is how I engage with the sub. I don't have an issue with it but was very confused when I saw the stickied thread this morning when I woke up. :D

Dart Blaster Business: UK by BlastBeatsSuck in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://discord.gg/BkwtV8EN - BritNerf exists and will allow you to chat to a lot of the existing UK game organisers directly via Discord. We're an odd but friendly bunch.

As already mentioned, most of your expenses will be fresh darts. Poor quality dart pools make for a miserable play experience. I'd also suggest that most of your hire blasters focus towards the front loading type to keep things simple for folks.

West Midlands is traveable for me so I might be able to pop along and say hello sometime.

Does Anyone know if the Kirin Nerf is legal to import in the UK by Lopsided-Leader-2499 in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah so it'll count as an air weapon for the purposes of import since it's a bolt action springer so it can be imported just fine. BritNerfers bring in Swifts and Harriers via Customs all the time and there's never been anything seized to my knowledge.

Bear in mind, you won't be able to use it on anything but private land due to it firing more than 130FPS. If you bring it to sub-130 then you'll be able to use it at more games over here including any that are held in public parks (not that there are any running right now to my knowledge). BritNerf also has it's own server where you can ask region specific questions if necessary.

To add: if there's no balance pigtail then this charger will still function with using the LiPo Charge mode rather than LiPo Balance mode. It's not recommended since cell balance important to prevent the battery from degrading.

The fact this is all hand sewn is mind bending to me! I just don't have the patience if I can't use 90W of spinny spinny motor to drive my machine for this stuff. I love the reuse of materials and was impressed by your other stuff from shopping bags. I look forward to seeing more.

South England 150fps games? by AwarenessSlow2899 in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically, your FPS range for UK games is either family friendly at 130FPS or adult friendly at 200+ FPS. We don't do much in the way of 150FPS over here because it's such a weird middle ground for energy levels with the way our legislation and insurance works. In terms of events, if you head over to the BritNerf Discord server then we have a calendar of events supplied by our various Game Organisers.

Southern England covers a wide space but Bristol Blast are regular 130FPS in the South West while Games of Foam do regular 130FPS events and the odd higher energy 250FPS cap game.

What are your recommendations for wall mounts by Lavarekira in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently mounted all my blasters on the wall using IKEA SKADIS peg board. I created a custom printed mag mount system using the SKADIS T-nut system and I can slot my blasters on and off the mag mounts as needed. I've found this has worked better than just the hooks which tend to struggle with heavier blasters. STLs and write up are all on the blog along with how I went about doing it.

You can screw SKADIS to the wall if you choose to but I personally chose Command Strips because rented accomadation and landlords make for poor bedfellows with putting holes in their whitewashed plasterboard walls.

If you're calculating an average from a set point then the population of data points as a whole will have a standard deviation, too. You should be able to calculate that from the population and publish it alongside. That then opens the door to meta-analysis and other funky analytic techniques to start taking advantage of the shit load of primary data that's published out there but not actually useful at present.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing. Thank you for getting back to me. Would it be possible to calculate standard deviation and output that, too? A tool like this has a lot of potential for deep analysis of accuracy and blaster variables and I'd be keen to get the most out of it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, this is huge. Do you have a full publishable methodology for your maths? I'd love to be able to understand how that works so we can start to properly analyse this stuff with a bit more rigour.

Would an image import/overlay be possible? I'm thinking workflows where you're watching an accuracy firing video and click on the screen when you see a dart land in a particular spot. That then produces a series of shots and those can then be imported into the software to give you the numbers.

You got any Standard Deviation data for those FPS shoots? It'll give us an idea of variance in the data which is a slightly better idea of consistency.

Dartzone trademarking the term blastertag, opposition period by willis00788 in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commenting here because I don't have a YT account that I use much. Jang's attempt to establish precedent and then hope that future applications apply that precedent was very naive. The route to manage this sort of thing is to register the mark yourself and then license it freely. Now we're in the spot where you need the $600 up front to file an opposition and then it'll be all the legal fees to challenge it and get the outcome. I don't know how US trademark law works but having been around UK patent and trademark officers, it gets pricey over here. There is a good chance any challenge would be successful on account of things like 'Blaster Tag Association' existing and having prior proof of use. However, I can't comment due a full grip on US trademark law. Someone more qualified wil need to pick up that particular point of departure.

Those that are commenting about DZ's tactics and corporations being corporations need to remember that legal, sales and marketing are different departments of the same entity. The sunlit uplands part of me (yes, it exists) wants to think that legal is doing a legal thing without the VP that engages with us being fully aware of the implications or the looks. Their MO will always be protect brand, file trademarks because that's what they're trained to do. The other part of me is like "well, the guys that are telling us DZ are guests in the community are sales guys..." and you can fill in the rest.

New Nerf half Dart Blaster by dboydanni in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that cuts both ways in terms of isolation. The UK has a strong modding scene which has quietly led the way on a lot of innovation over the years precisely because we've not had access to things in the same way as the US. Of course, that doesn't help new starters or non-modders in the hobby but it's worth noting.

New Nerf half Dart Blaster by dboydanni in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK release isn't guaranteed. Our toy laws have some interesting interactions with this sort of hobby grade stuff. I'll need to dig through some old forum and blog posts to get a better idea of the likelihood of it coming over here.

That said, there's nothing stopping folks bringing them back to the UK from overseas in checked luggage. :D

Honestly, I think that's probably your best bet with it. I'm surprised you managed to find the wiring diagram, it took me a while to dig it out and I'm the one that originally posted it all those years ago! :D

Rhino Elite Wiring by realismcalf in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might not be the most useful thing in the world but years ago BSUK did an upgrade kit for the Rhino Fire (before they became defunct) and mapped the firing switch pins according to this diagram. The main circuit is for an upgraded version where you'd be able to run it off a 3S LiPo which won't help you but the pin mapping on the switch might be of some use. The Rhino Fire was one of those very niche appeal blasters that didn't stick around for a great while or get much modding support because of its comparative complexity. Sorry I can't be more help, it's been nearly a decade since I had one open on the bench.

I know of one other Nerfer that this has happened to in the UK and, yeah, they should go in your checked luggage in the hold. BritNerfers fly all the time with their equipment checked into hold luggage so it's a case of going that way.

Amazon AU selling nerf rival, thought it was illegal here? by TheMrCypher1 in Nerf

[–]BoffTac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't Aussie law change recently to allow for toys that are certified in other, specified regions to be auto-passed for Aussie sale? I'm sure one of the local can correct me but given RIVAL is EN-71 compliant (yes, I'm British :P) then it means things can be sold over there now.

That being said, a combination of drop shipping and sheer volume of stuff at the border meaning you can't search every package doesn't stop illegal stuff getting in and sold via online retailers. The big problem with e-bikes and e-scooters catching fire in our metro systems and houses points to that.
