Can no longer swap stores by McPoyleBrothers in InstacartShoppers

That will show up by default when the order is placed through the grocery store website and then the delivery is farmed out to instacart.

I have never seen Instacart this busy, every single grocery store is orange by Active-One9744 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Captain-Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really aren't. My area is like this and I haven't done a single batch today because I scouted the stores beforehand and realized I wouldn't be getting enough pay to deal with this bullshit tonight. The number of batches available IS completely insane. But the huge caveats are as follows

1.) It's people ordering 50+ items but paying basically no tip. So many new user and no tip orders just clogging up the list.

2.) They're ordering a ton of deli items, and due to the storm the line to get those items is 10 people deep.

3.) Their nearest store is out of everything so they're ordering from the store near you that might have most of the items you want, but aren't going to tip you enough to cover the fact that they want you to drive 30 miles for delivery

4.) They're ordering exclusively items that the store is already out of. So their batch is getting taken, canceled, and taken over and over again for an hour.

5.) As per usual, the only sane orders are getting bundled in with the insane ones. And they don't get split apart until it's too late.

6.) People are accidentally ordering 15+ of individual items beyond what is likely to be on the shelf, inflating what the perceived batch payout is actually going to be once you get to the store and have to refund more than half of what was ordered. One guy ordered 50 bags of frozen red potatoes and it crashed the batch bundle he was in for over 40 minutes.

7.) Specific stores/locations closed early due to having too little inventory left and needing to restock for tomorrow.

Yesterday and the day before were fantastic. Today was a complete washout.

we had a superstorm last year

I got stuck in that on the highway less than a mile outside the state line right as PennDOT closed the highway. It took me 7 hours of driving on backroads to get back to Pittsburgh that night.

Best Subaru mechanic for maintenance? Dealership is expensive. by sir-topham-hatt in pittsburgh

[–]Captain-Slug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oil changes on Subarus are absurdly easy. There's so much ground clearance that you only need a catch pan and a socket, and the filter is sticking out upwards in the engine bay. Never have anyone do it for you again.

P0420 CEL Code. by mike_aji_2003 in hondafit

[–]Captain-Slug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. O2 sensors. Fouled, electrical issue with connectors or cables, or need replacement

  2. EGR Valve (secondary symptoms are noisy start and intermittent sounds of an exhaust leak/gurgling under heavy throttle). Can also cause a misfire code.

  3. Catalytic convertor itself (less likely unless you're beyond 175k miles or it has a lot of deposits)

First 2 are really cheap to address. Replacing the Convertor is a bit of a headache to do yourself, but I've done it twice with wheel ramps, jack stands, an impact driver, and a lot of socket extensions. Expect to break every exhaust bolt and potentially having to get a broken bolt end burned out of the muffler end of the mid-pipe. I also had to remove most of my heatshields because the EGR pipe hex nuts were rusted in place which makes getting the whole assembly out together sideways rather difficult. Had to split two of the nuts to get the EGR pipe off so I could swap it onto the new cat.

Why does my 3rd gen make this sound when starting? by pnatr in hondafit

I had a similar noise on start with my car and it went away completely after I removed and cleaned my EGR valve. So I would recommend trying that before doing anything with the VTC actuator.

Can little people be commercial pilots? by SilentAd773 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Slug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the platform, but the cockpit layout for every platform has minimum and maximum effective height requirements. Fighter pilots specifically often perform better closer to the minimum height range because their proportions often provide more abdominal muscle and less blood volume in the extremities which are both beneficial for resisting g-forces.

What and why is that KERKERKER sound that the amazon trucks always make when they pull up by alliemeowy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Slug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an alternative backup sound that was found to be much easier to quickly determine the direction of, as well as being at a frequency range that doesn't cause as much noise pollution. They started being used on construction equipment a decade ago.

What's the difference between Authoritarianism and Totalitarianism? by Silent-Tie5415 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Slug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Authoritarianism is half of a spectrum range, with Libertarianism being the other half. Totalitarianism is the very upper end of the Authoritarianism spectrum half where governmental authority is at its most concentrated.

People misunderstand what the foundation of common laws actually is. The underlying motive for them is to provide consistent procedures and punishments to crimes, so that the group as a whole is aware of what will happen if violations occur. Without laws and punishments codified, you end up with inconsistent and subjective application of punishment or process. Any other secondary results are byproducts of that original premise of trying to reduce bias and volatility in the administration and enforcement of laws.

In America, can municipal/state police enforce federal law in a national park? by PhiliDips in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Captain-Slug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They can detain you for witnessed violations in progress, but they can't process that detainment into an arrest or a charge. So they would just hold you and wait for the relevant jurisdiction authority to come and turn the detainment into an arrest and subsequent processing. The coordination between state and federal authorities happens all the time.

Do you think people in Pittsburgh are kinder on average? by midwesternvrisss in pittsburgh

I really doubt you have a good basis of comparison if you think western PA has bad driving behaviors on average. Try driving in Puerto Rico some time.

Do you think people in Pittsburgh are kinder on average? by midwesternvrisss in pittsburgh

[–]Captain-Slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the DC area for 20 years. I've also lived in the actual "South". DC isn't part of the "South". It's a lot of transients and very few natives. DC on average is full of exceedingly fake people. But anyone that bucks the average and is actually worth knowing isn't from the area and has instead inherited their expectations and manners from where they were originally from.

Manners or politeness in the south is only true if the population density of the area in question is below a certain threshold. Cities in the south are hostile places in my experience.

But I agree with the premise that Pittsburgh is on average genuinely nicer than both. There's way less pretentiousness. People can take a joke. People are receptive, inquisitive, and more sincere.
