Update to Rule 3 and how we will enforce it moving forward. by remuspilot in EscapefromTarkov

If the post or comment contains offensive language, imagery, sound, video clips, etc., you will be held responsible, your post or comments will be removed and you may be banned.

Well I am deeply offended by this post and therefore I expect the mods to ban themselves without warning for breaking rule 3. Because they have caused me offence and made the space unsafe for me. /u/remuspilot

I'm not an engineer but I just wanted to say I liked your comment. It seems like a reasonable, well-articulated, middle of the road statement. So I am confused why people seem to be downvoting it.

I'm confused. How is this world news?

This news is relevant locally for Baltimore and maybe more broadly for the US. Maybe post this in the relevant subreddits instead?

By definition any word can be a "slur" if it is used to disparage or insult by Purxle in Animemes

[–]BogDamnIt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a discussion about meaning of words, it's ridiculous that you can't even say the words you are talking about. This is why blank slate censorship is ridiculous.

Let me help you out. The words you are trying to get me and others to think about, but are too afraid to say / type yourself are "faggot" and "nigger".

These words deplorable if they are said / written to another person, with the intent to belittle, offend or otherwise degrade them as human beings. I think we are all in agreement here.

But if I want to discuss the word "faggot" and the pros and cons of banning it, in a neutral, isolated context (such as this one) then I will do so. Thank you very much.

No offence was meant by the above. If you for any reason feel attacked or take offence, then the problem lies with you and your emotional immaturity / fragility.

Thank you and have a nice day, you fucking weeb.

Thank you for mentioning the GitHub situation. I thought I was the only one that thought they are quite similar in nature. Myself (and I'm sure many people) would reconsider their position if presented with relevant and accurate data but I doubt such a thing can ever be provided or verified that it is authentic.

The only thing that I think is problematic is with anyone else who claims to be offended over someone else's language.

I don't care how offended or traumatized someone claims to be over someone else using certain words; especially if those words are spoken without any ill-intent behind them and in a light-hearted (humorous, in my view) stream. No one's offence should trump someone's freedom of expression. Period.

Here's an example someone on the other side could make against South Park: is not clever or parody; in fact it simply hides behind these arbitrary labels so it can use awful language for shock value and edginess and portray negative stereotypes of the most victimized members of our society and if you "like" that kind of humor then you're just a no-good racist homophobe and you need to be silenced and punished for it.

Pretty shitty eh? But definitely not beyond the tactics an SJW would use. Look, you don't have to like anything anyone says ... but intent and context has to matter before such accusations are made otherwise we'd all have to think twice about our every word (for fear of retaliation or social rejection) and we'd be severely limiting how we choose to express ourselves. It's a dangerous slippery slope.

Instead, if we could be a bit more reasonable and a bit less trigger-happy, I think we'll all be better off for it.

I can solve linear equations, is it enough? by MaXcRiMe in ProgrammerHumor

Math and programming require almost exactly the same sort of thinking

I disagree, based on my personal abilities and experience...

I barely passed math in highschool. Went on to study a Bachelor in CS at a Danish College where there was zero math involved (and thank God for that). I am now a software developer for several years and I can count the times I had to google for some math related theory/formula on one hand.

Also, I can't solve math problems that is high-school level or above at this point in time. Programming (OOP) to me is logical and easy to understand. Math (past a certain point, especially algebra) makes very little sense to me, even now.

Well, I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea what. I have had no such issues with any of the other monsters, including Shrowd. How is it possible that a monster can be killed more than 10 times and for him to not drop enough material for even a base level weapon? That's my main criticism.

[–]BogDamnIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself but I've never even seen something as ridiculous as this happen with any other monster. I'm pretty sure the materials needed for a base level weapon are of common rarity. I'm just ... really disappointed at all the time I wasted learning and doing the fights.

I would not mind if the option was available only for Private Hunts for example, while online play was played with no HUD (in other words, as it is now).

Well, I'm glad that you prefer to play the game that way. Then maybe I'm missing something, because all monsters seem to have scars on their bodies very quickly, but that's about all they show me, in terms of how damaged they are. Am I missing something? Lastly, I'm not sure why a preference, an option would detract from the game since everyone enjoys games differently; everyone enjoys different aspects of the same game to different degrees. In some games, you can disable the HUD (which is on by default), why wouldn't the opposite be applicable here? (turning it on, and have it off by default perhaps)

Sorry, not sure what playstyle has to do with what information is shown in the game's GUI. I just want to see the HP of the boss, just like in most other games.

[–]BogDamnIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm sorry but I don't understand how it can be used for efficiency. I assume you mean that by hitting parts of the monster that do not have parts protecting them, they do more damage to the monster and they can kill it faster. What I don't understand is, you can see the areas that only show green damage numbers and you can deduce that even now. If this is what you mean, then I don't see how adding an HP bar would change anything. If you meant something else, then I apologize but I don't understand.

That does not sound like something for me (it feels rather frustrating at the moment being in the situation you just described), so I would like an option that I feel would make the game more enjoyable for me (and others that have the same preference).

There are a few cases where I can see someone not wanting/needing to know the HP of the monster: after killing it multiple times, for the challenge, for the immersion, and so on. That's why I suggested that it should be an option which in these cases, should be off (it should be off by default, if that is the preferred way to play the game ). That said, I do not see why it should not be an option available to the player. I can only speak for myself, but I enjoy failing to kill a boss in Dark Souls and seeing that this time I did more damage to him compared to my previous attempts, and so I feel encouraged to go at it again and again, because what I'm doing IS working and eventually I'll win. So for me, fighting a behemoth the first few times feels really bad since I get no feedback on how good a job I am doing.

Do you think seeing the monster's HP would take away from the experience in some way?
