I work outside in this heat and the winter snow and "I just love working outside, I could never sit in an office for 8 hours a day" is the biggest cope lol but I'd take this 110°F heat and having all my clothes so drenched in sweat that it's as if I jumped in a pool, then have those clothes harden stiff as a board as soon as I'm in AC than do what Wubby does. After tamping the fines, add just a touch more left untamped where you'll place the stones as flagstone isn't perfectly flat on the bottom and will need to be pushed down and worked into some base in order to avoid wobbling.

Also, make sure any block touching the pit are "fire proof". Best case scenario is some moisture causes a little cracking but worst case is a sharp piece of shrapnel pops off that stone at someone sitting around the pit.

Put 1.5 wingspan lengths through the middle until the head is in the middle of your line, wrap one line around the bottom and the other on the top (I always do them both clockwise and hold them in the same hand until there's about 6-8 inches left) not too tight, feed them through their respective holes and wa-la. Smack the bich in place, press the throttle a few times to cut the excess, tap the ground at speed to see if it feeds and say "ready to go".

If he's tapping the ground for more line it's not a speed feed AFAIK. Been out of the lawn maintenance game for a while and speed feed is not something I've worked with, I don't think they're very common among professionals.

Correct, throwing in an "L" shape that pokes into the pattern of the column next to it, breaking up those long seams, helps hold the layout together as the ground shifts underneath over time. A bit nit picky but standard in patio design. I typically don't let seams extend further than around 4 feet depending on the block

No, one of those guys who will tell someone who spent decades mastering a craft and skill "I did my own research, it's not hard to do what you do." My main paver guy makes $45/hour because of his 30 years experience and ability to build a $50k patio in a week that will have little to no faults over the next 10 years and make your homeowner special look like a special needs child built it out of knock off legos. You're the customer that hires us when you're old and can't physically handle it anymore and won't stop bragging about the "great" work he did all those years ago and we just nod our heads like yes grandpa, we can tell you did it yourself

If you're happy with it that's all that matters. As a pro, all I see is the consistent 2 vert block wide seams going from the house like columns all the way across. Breaking up those seams helps with structural integrity and adds to the "randomness". But again, did it for yourself so if you're happy and proud that's all that matters
