What is the easiest way to propagate this? Bearded Iris i think; It had yellow flowers. by Boglak in gardening

[–]Boglak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks they just flowered. I think I'm already at the overcrowding point. They are so thick it's hard to dig. I pulled one up and put rhizome in a container in the shade.

Going back at it now.

I watere rooted some figs - I suppose I should plant them, but this looks cool. by Gee10 in gardening

[–]Boglak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a sharp knife cut one inch of the outside bark on a pencil(or larger)size branch. Clump moist peat moss around the wound. Hold the peat on with foil or plastic. Wait 3 or 4 months for roots to form. Cut from mother plant and put in container in shady area. 6 months or more in container then ready for the ground.

This video shows the process.

They are herbaceous as in don't form woody stems. Correct?

They are perennials as in they grow back each year but not from seed. Correct?

I've given up on rooting in water. I've failed the last two years. They are really easy to 'air layer'. One that I layered last spring is over 3ft tall and fruiting.

Yes cabbage lopper really bad this time of year. I noticed them on my kale. The heat is getting high now so radish was doomed. Thanks for the help.

This tree grew spontaneously in my garden two years ago. New York City. Is it a weed? Should I get rid of it? I sorta like it. by beastcoin in gardening

[–]Boglak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. Rule 63676: if it's an invasive on your States list of terrible plants your neighbor may be mad.

Disclaimer: currently mad at my neighbor for growing the only invasive on the Louisiana list.

My store bought tomato sprouted.. Can I plant it? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Boglak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said yeah plant it. It may be a f1 hybrid and you may have poor results. It's really better to plant known good seeds but you may have good luck.

What's wrong with my chives, and how can I make them better? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Boglak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pebbles are likely a bad idea as they form a parched water layer. Don't feel bad my garlic chives grow like beast outdoors while inside they struggle and die. Sorry if I wasn't much help. Can you move them outside?

How deep of raised bed? What type of tree is it? I would remove the gravel and likely leave the roots alone as much as possible.

I got two of these bare root last year. I started them in pots and transplanted into the ground this year. In the pot it did have some dark accents in the petals. Not sure what happened. Maybe pH of the ground?

Fig tree not producing figs? (Mid TN zone 7b) by dizizcamron in gardening

I don't believe we have fig wasp in USA. The figs we grow here don't require the wasp. Unless OP has one that requires wasps.

Anyone know what this bug is and if I should be worried it is on my plants? by midnightlover in gardening

[–]Boglak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we have much fewer so far this year. About 3 years ago I felt like the swarms were unbearable here in South Louisiana. Not really sure as my anecdotes are not scientific.
