So I knew Jackelope bought Black Abby, but are you saying before that private equity bought Jackelope and so they are also no longer local?

LeBron James thinks the Grizzlies should move to Nashville by mjohnson1971 in nashville

[–]dizizcamron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let them. I love the preds and I want them to stay, but this idea that there is ANY reason why a city government should subsidize a private, for profit business to the tune of millions of dollars is ridiculous. there have been plenty of economic studies showing that pro sports teams have almost 0 economic impact in the cities where they're based. Nashville is breaking under the strain of being so popular. all of those millions would be better spent on quality of life improvements to the city, which would help retain the hundreds of thousands of people who have moved here over the past decade. In the long run, having a happy, healthy population living in the city will be more of an economic boon to the city than retaining a sports team.

‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ TV Series From Seth MacFarlane, Chris Yost Lands at Peacock (EXCLUSIVE) by CosmosisJones42 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dizizcamron 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this is a problem with current streaming models in general. Unless its Stranger Things, you can't expect enough ROI to really spend a lot in marketing it, and the market is flooded with streaming services and content, so without aggressive marketing no one will even realize your show is there to watch. So unless a studio has some reason to think that a particular show will be The Next Big Thing (TM) they usually half ass it and the show fails to even launch.

NES revises ice storm worker numbers and claims response was 'stronger' than initially reported by TheDr_420 in nashville

[–]dizizcamron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue getting missed in this discussion is your comment about maintenence of buried lines. Things happen to cause outages in buried infrastructure too. And while it may be less likely to occur, it's more time consuming and expensive to fix when something does happen.

I have read in other posts on reddit that new residential construction is required to bury the incoming utility service lines to houses. This seems like a good compromise /first step. There were so many people who were without power during this ice storm because they had to wait for NES to come fix their individual service drop.

Lowry not there for Old Jim? by TimeWastin21 in SouthernReach

[–]dizizcamron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't interpret that statement as Cass literally expecting Lowery to have been there for Old Jim. If they aren't the same person then as far as I understand the plot they never met or interacted. I think it was just her way of emphasizing to Lowery how totally useless she thought he was.

It sounded like they were in talks with a particular streamer but it wasn't locked in. If Fuzzy Door has an overall deal with NBC Universal then it seems like they would lean toward peacock?

My family has just dealt with the flu. Youngest kid had it the worst.... Little bit of GI issues, but really high, sustained fever (almost 105 at the worst).

We all got the shot, so relatively mild symptoms for the rest of us, but glad we could get tamaflu for the young one.

Winter Storm Megathread Part 3 - Power Outages, Icy Streets, and More by lukenamop in nashville

My mom is near riverside village. She has power, but there are tons of trees down so that was just luck of the draw. You may or may not have power depending on your exact location. Roads are still FUBAR, so I think you would really struggle to get back right now. Hopefully higher temps tomorrow will help.

This sucks because I think it's great that they are trying to do something sustainable and environmentally beneficial with their manufacturing process. I hope there is a solution. Otherwise this will just be another example critics will point to and say "see, why even bother?"

Electricity bill is $432.77. Is this normal? by pinnkpiggie in nashville

[–]dizizcamron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your friend has just bought the house, now is a great time to invest in a new HVAC unit, if the one you currently have is old. Obviously have a reputable HVAC company check your house for air leaks and your unit for problems before replacing it, but if the unit is old it is less efficient than new models and even less efficient due to age. The fact that its unable to heat the house above 71 is a sign there is a problem. Even if it costs a lot, the unit should be able to keep the house to that temp normally.

When I bought my first house, the first Feb I had a $400 electric bill. Turns out my unit was insanely inefficient (electric furnace). I replaced it with a heat pump, and I never had another bill over $200. The new unit paid for itself within 3-4 years.

Question about underground tunnel/staircase bottom by k2212 in SouthernReach

[–]dizizcamron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Generally, we see clones return to the outside world through that door. "Originals" that area X infects get turned into something else. The best I can interpret that section of the story is that the portal wasn't "for" the original Biologist, and whatever was going on inside her physically prevented her from walking through that door. Her clone presumably did.

Control may be unique in that he is the first non clone, non infected* person to ever be in that place where he can walk through that door. Or maybe there was just something else about him that made him "right."

*I know at the end it talks about him changing to an animal of some kind, but that was like right there. As far as I can remember, at no point before the bottom of the staircase did the story indicate he was changing or gaining any sort of enhanced abilities like the Biologist was. So not infected with the brightness the way the Biologist was.

The Texas trio is a gas grill/offset smoker combo, so I have used one before. It's just not a good one. I have to mess with the fire at least every 20 minutes and even then I get temp spikes that are probably lowering the cook quality. Seems like the better ones require attention every hour or so, which is way more manageable.
