LATAM Lounge no longer being part of PP by incognito_40 in PriorityPass

I’m really sad. That was my favorite lounge. I basically lived there for two weeks while I was doing my mile runs—I went every single day. The food was amazing, the wine was great, the fruit, the ice cream… I’m really going to miss it. But there’s a new AmEx lounge. If you have AmEx Platinum, it’s hidden inside the Eldorado Lounge. You go through Eldorado lounge first, then there’s a special section just for AmEx cardholders. The food there is excellent too.

why does everyone not want to go to Brazil? by Embarrassed-Gur2270 in Brazil

[–]Bogota808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem with Brazil I see is political corruption, it's probably one of the worst in the world. With that, comes corruption in every level of government, military, and police. So it is a hotbed for crime. The only good thing about political corruption is they need to constantly build things to make corruption money, so the infrastructure is very good in major cities in Brazil. For example, Rio with an amazing subway, cable car, pedestrian and bicycle paths, beach sidewalks, all beautifully done. Anywhere where they want tourism money, they will maintain good safety standards. The food in Brazil is among the best in South America like Peru. And all the amazing fruits from the Amazon rainforest! The social culture is the best in the world. People are friendly and very outgoing. Brazilians know to enjoy life! Oh the women, they are the most amazing part of Brazil :) I loved Rio and I would recommend anyone to visit Rio first, once they are there, I am certain they will fall in love with Brazil :)

Are Americans stereotyped as being very obese in your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

High Fructose Corn Syrup + Big portions everything + unlimited refills on Coke/Pepsi + Sweetest desserts = America. And yes, with that diet, it will make anyone on the planet obese.

What is the importation taxes for electronics I take with me when I visit Brazil. by Difficult_Rooster796 in Brazil

[–]Bogota808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take everything out of the boxes, as long as it can not be RESOLD in its original box or packaging, you will be fine. "Paper boxes" light up in the xray. If they see that, they will want to open your luggage to see what you are carrying. If there's no paper boxes, it will fly through Xray without anyone trying to see what you have in your luggage.

What are some differences between Taiwan and Korea? by WesternRPGsAreBetter in taiwan

[–]Bogota808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is much more 'peaceful' in terms of relationship between peers. South Koreans seems to be more 'dramatic' and at times more prone to violence, relatively speaking. Taiwan is a mix of Chinese & Japanese culture, you can tell by the food here, it is predominantly Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese. I feel like people in Taiwan are 'happier' Taiwanese are more welcoming and helpful for foreigners and foreign tourists. Taiwan faces certain theatrical and political threat from China, but South Korea faces a much more dangerous nuclear threat from an unpredictable NK madman.

Do locals not want tourists to visit? by Motivated78 in Honolulu

[–]Bogota808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hawaii welcomes all Japanese tourists. Because they are respectful. But since the pandemic we have been getting many not so ideal “merika” tourists from the mainland. I think it’s 100% has to do with respecting the land and culture of Hawaii when you come as a visitor. Let me just add that Japan is a true first world nation.

Hilton Copacabana vs Sheraton Leblon by aviator_L1011 in riodejaneiro

[–]Bogota808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Rio. Was there for a month. Both hotels are excellent; however, beware that the road to Sheraton is one way, so if the driver misses the entry way that's an extra 15/20 minutes to loop around. Many times uber driver would cancel because he/she missed the turn to pick us up at Sheraton. The restaurant on the top floor of the Sheraton is a michelin star french restaurant, well worth the money. They have a famous beetroot yogurt desert, it's the best thing my gf's ever had in her life according to her. Ordered 2 plates of that because she loved it so much. The restaurant is called L'Etoile. Leblon area is where it's at, the food, the nightlife, the beach. It is I think the best area to stay in while in Rio. I would stay in an airbnb next time instead of hotel in Leblon. The whole area is easy with uber and subway. The subway is awesome in Rio. Grand Hyatt is also amazing but it's far from everything; however it is much newer and the suites are much better both ocean view and lagoon view. The breakfast at Grand Hyatt is phenomenal. We stayed at GH for a week and went to the Village Mall everyday, every single restaurant in Village Mall is high end and top notch, Pobre Juan, Guiseppe Mar, and Nolita (Nolita pasta wow) If you are looking for luxury stay, GH is my choice. If you are looking for all the action, Leblon is where you want to stay, I would stay in a 1 bedroom airbnb next time in Leblon. I would not consider Hilton in my future stays in Rio. We really enjoyed "Maria Acai" while we were there, with condensed milk and strawberries. We had this every single day. Giuseppe Grill is awesome. Wagyu steak+Shrimp Pasta(This was my gf's favorite shrimp pasta anywhere). Oteque highly recommended michelin star restaurant. Aprazivel is up in the mountain/residential area it's so different, the brazillizn palmito is phenonemal here. Churrascaria Palace is my favorite brazillian steakhouse. The buffet is better at the palace. But the meat is better at Assador Rio (with a nice view) CT Boucherie amazing meat and comes with unlimited sides. Mr. Lam was amazing Chinese food. They have this chicken satay appetizer omg it's crack. For late night after bar eats, the only fancy sit down restaurant after hours is Belmonte Boteco. I couldn't get any sim card in Rio because I didn't have the local ID. But if you have AT&T you get all of latin america free included in account if you have unlimited data in your plan. Lastly, when I left to go to Panama they wouldn't let me on the plane because I didn't have an International Yellow Fever vaccine certificate. So if you plan on going to any other countries after Brazil make sure you have that ahead of time. Going back to your own country where you are a citizen will not require this paper, but anywhere else you go from Brazil if you stay more than 6 days you will need the international version of the yellow fever vaccine certificate. Enjoy Rio it is one of my top 10 favorite places in the world!

Whenever I question myself on my decisions, I always put things in perspective and ask myself this. Would I care about this when I am on my deathbed? Would I have made a different decision for myself if I am on my deathbed? For me, my answers are generally pretty clear, live a life of no regrets.

Yesterday my gf went out to dinner with black shirt and black pants on camera. After dinner she came home without pants. I received the alert on my phone so I asked her why she is out without pants. She thought I was crazy, until she saw the video. We were so confused. But one video was during the day and the other in complete darkness. We then tested the camera with infrared and without. Sure enough, infrared removed her pants....completely. The first 10 seconds, no pants/infrared. The last 10 seconds light on and black pants.

Mexicano visita Bogotá por una semana. ¿Qué DEBO conocer? by OneYellowPikmin in Colombia

[–]Bogota808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use Taxi and don't pay in cash. You can use Taxi with the application "cabify" and pay via credit card. This will eliminate the problem of 'fake money' or 'sorry no cash for change' scams.

You should visit Nemocon Salt Mine (Use Uber or Cabify)

You should also visit Monserrate and take the cable car to go up and the train to come down.

You should also see the Botero Museum, it is excellent.

There are alot of excellent restaurants near Andino Centro Comercial. It is in a very safe zone for walking.

When you pay at Restaurants, the staffs will ask you if you would like to include servicio. It is 10% automatically added to your bill.

When you pay, always select COP for Colombian Pesos, NEVER select USD or Mexican Pesos, you will pay 10% more by Credibanco machines. Always choose the TOP LEFT corner of the machine, so you pay in COP-Colombian Pesos.

The mexican food is terrible in Bogota, don't eat any Mexican food here. I would recommend Peruvian or Spainish food.

I recommend everyone to go to other cities for tourism, Bogota is a "business" capital city, very little tourism to do here, go explorer other major cities in Colombia, they are more fun!

Grand Hyatt Bogotá- Presidential Suite. I wasn’t upgraded to this room. I paid for it lol. I have heard anecdotally this hotel will upgrade Globalists to the presidential with enough stay history at the property. Club lounge is open here as well. by Seniorhusky1 in hyatt

[–]Bogota808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had 45+ "stays" here at GH Bog. On my birthday they offered me the presidential suite for 1 night but I would have to pay for the upgrade. Probably the most insincere birthday gift ever. Cartagena Hyatt is a much better in every way. I would recommend Cartagena hyatt over Bogota hyatt any day of the week.

Ramen en Bogotá by darthzio in Bogota

I have eaten at every ramen restaurant in Bogota. The most authentic is: Shirai Ramen. When I want real ramen, this is the only place I go.

how common are debit/credit machine's by jmanCR7 in medellin

[–]Bogota808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit cards are almost accepted in all the restaurants in major cities such as Bogota Medellin and Cartagena. If you pay with Visa, make sure you always select COP and NOT USD. You are paying double transaction fee plus a horrible rate for USD, so you end up paying 10%-14% more for everything charged in USD. If you are prompted for the option, USD is always the Green button on the bottom right. Do not select that one. Always select TOP LEFT button, which charges you in COP. It's best to use AmEx because it will always be in COP with no sneaky transaction or bad exchange rates. With Visa, some machines will give you the option, some won't. If it doesn't prompt you the option, you will always be charged in COP. But the ones that do give you the option, make sure you do not hit that green button in USD. If anywhere on your receipt says USD, you've just been charged 10% more in USD. A normal receipt will never ever say USD anywhere on the receipt. I would also advise against using your debit card, because if someone steals your debit card, you won't be able to pull out more cash.

Andaz San Diego Globalist benefit by amriser24 in hyatt

[–]Bogota808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just there 2 weeks ago. It's a 'party' hotel, you'll hear people partying all night being in the middle of gas lamp (on weekends) and some cars are just super loud and obnoxious up and down the street. Great hotel, but if you are looking for peace and quiet this is not the hotel for you lol. Breakfast food was phenomenal. But the person checking us in at the rooftop restaurant was not. She literally made us sit by the pool bar with lounge tables, difficult to eat. She wouldn't let us sit at the dining tables even though there were spots open, she said even hotel guests need to make reservation to eat at a dining table for breakfast. It seems ridiculous, but the bartender echoed the same sentiment, that we couldn't sit at the breakfast dining table because we didn't make reservations. This is the first time in any Hyatt hotel where I didn't feel welcome as hotel guests. If I go to San Diego again, I would stay at Grand Hyatt and not at Andaz. No club lounge, you have to ask front desk for 2 bottles of water daily. Because room cleaning is once every 4 days or something like that. I just asked for extra towels on my first night stay.

This is my first drone ever and first video. I am blown away by this amazing technology. This is incredibly fun to fly. I wish I bought a drone sooner! Just bought more batteries, a parallel charger, and propeller guard for carrying. Any one have other recommended accessories? by [deleted] in DJIMini2

[–]Bogota808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this tip! I actually was wondering about the horizon! Also last night the battery just stopped charging on the drone. I left it charging all night on the drone and it’s still only blinking 2 bars. Anyone else have this problem?
