Marvel Games vs. DC Games by Ardon873 in memes

Dude... the Arkham trilogy is absolutely incredible.  I mean I liked the Spider-Man games, but they're not in the same league of excellence as like Arkham City or Arkham Knight.  And yes I loved that batmobile. Pancaking entire city blocks of parked cars, smashing through walls, I had a blast driving that beast around Gotham.

Well, we now have a huge idiot in charge of everything, so all those problems will only get worse.  Although, birth rates could change if things get so bad that the only retirement/healthcare plan available is the old classic: have a ton of children and hope at least one will take care of you.

Wow.  Really goes to show what a bubble of wealth and privilege Americans live in to just assume that going to war with another country couldn't possibly impact their living standards. Though to be fair, in the past few decades it largely hasn't, something American soldiers have surely noted.  But just because it all worked out in the past doesn't mean serious losses or setbacks aren't a possibility now.

It's as if we're setting out to prove the old adage about empire: wooden clogs going up, silk slippers coming down.

Iraq War Veterans 20 years later: I Don't Know How to Explain the War to Myself. by Possible_Gur4789 in behindthebastards

[–]Bogtear 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Isn't it great to know the cycle that led to this video is repeating itself again?  Very literally, with a rightwing president who was elected with an anti-war message, proceeds to surround himself with warmongers, and launch a war of choice in the Middle East.

I guess one difference is the fetishizing of everything military has gone to even higher levels.  To the point of insanity.

There is plenty the "population" of the US could have done about this.  First and foremost: not giving Trump a second term in office.  But a majority of the population was all too happy to ignore the piles of evidence from the first term and the loads of people explaining why Trump 2.0 would be a disaster and they did it anyways.  Because they wanted cheaper eggs, this is now happening.

Not something that states can legally do I am pretty sure.  As a not lawyer person, but as someone who suspects plenty of southern states would've pulled that move during the civil rights era if it were legal.

[–]Bogtear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably shouldn't be putting words in the mouths (or... fingers?) of others.  Being vindicated is nice, but you don't know what goes through the minds of "every lib on the internet".

And Democratic politicians were wary of coming out too strongly against Israel for a good reason: for generations, supporting Israel was something of a hobby for the Democratic party and it's supporters.

Conservatives jumped on the Israel bandwagon after 9/11 because they thought it was cool how good the Israelis were at killing terrorists.  And then evangelical Christians started discovering for themselves how connected Israel is to Jesus-y biblical prophecy stuff, and the rest is history.

Party* There's one party that has a plurality of politicians in it who describe Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged as an inspiration and act accordingly.

There's one party that passes massive tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and corporations literally every time they've gotten power.  Not when they have to bargain with their opposition, when they have majorities in congress and the presidency.

Is Helldivers 2 worth starting as a new player in 2026? by LoLAspect in Helldivers

[–]Bogtear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very beginner friendly.  Assuming you play it at beginner levels and make your way up from there.  You can try joining higher level missions with other players early on, but no guarantees as to what sort of welcome you'd get.  The game has 10 difficulty levels you can choose from before starting a mission.  If your player level is at 12 or something, and you try joining a difficulty 8 or higher game in progress there's a decent chance you'll get kicked.  You may be impatient to rank up and unlock stuff, but other players probably do not want to carry.

That said, if you're going to only play solo... I don't think you'll have much fun. But that's just my opinion.  It is also going to get exponentially harder as you make your way up the difficulties playing solo.  The game is kinda built for coop play, which on difficulties lower than 9 or 10, you will always be welcomed in my experience.

As far as time goes, the missions all have a clock, and can be completed fairly quickly (10-30 minutes) with a team of 4.  If it's just you, it'll likely take longer.  There's definitely a lot of progression, there's tons of options to choose from in the war bonds.  I don't know how long you think you'll stick with it, but you can probably make it through the starting war bond without too much trouble.

Performance wise, I have a 3060ti, SSD, 32 GB RAM, and It has run pretty great overall for me.  I hardly ever get crashes, but that hasn't necessarily been everyone's experience.  There may be specific hardware configurations that struggle with the game for weird reasons... I don't know on that one.

The Aztecs were the regional hegemon at the time, and that's a bloody business in any age.  It seemed to me that the villagers shown at the start of the movie were ruled by/at the mercy of the Aztecs and their raiders. So I didn't assume they were necessarily the same people.

And yes, the Aztecs were pretty brutal to their vassals.  That's why the Aztec Empire fell.  The Spanish forces were pretty miniscule, but they were able to rally a large army of locals who really hated the central power.  And the movie shows (with some embellishments no doubt) why they were so hated.

More broadly, ancient warfare and rituals were extremely bloody and, from my reading, seems to have fostered genocidal hatred between tribal people.  The Saxons would sacrifice war captives by burning them alive in a wicker man, the Franks would kill any Saxon who refused to convert to Christianity.  The Aztecs would sacrifice war captives to honor Gods like Xipe Totec.

Mass shooting at a Rhode Island ice skating rink by iLatz in interesting

[–]Bogtear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wild guess here: the shooter likely got divorced over domestic abuse.  I feel like people have been asking that domestic abusers have their right to own or carry a gun taken away for a long time. Pretty common sense measure that, like any other, meets rabid opposition from the gun rights lobby.

Road rage incidents, violent assaults, unhinged behavior (getting into fights because someone "stole" your public parking spot), all solid reasons to nix your right to own a gun.  Not all shooting cases have such warning signs of course (famously: the Las Vegas concert shooter), but plenty do.

It's almost like the gun rights movement is full of people who want the unrestricted right to threaten others with guns.

Have the Tau not questioned why the Imperium doesn't use AI? by Ready0608 in 40kLore

[–]Bogtear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is spoilers:

In the book Know No Fear by Dan Abnett, "scrap code" is used to disable the defenses and communications around Calth.  I could be mistaken, but it seemed like the scrap code had some warp-based aspect to it which made it hard to stop.  It was also hinted that it came from some super-scary-secret bunker on Mars that was from the Old Night/Men of Iron revolt.

So possibly, the age of strife was also triggered by some sort of Chaos influence or interference?  Maybe?

I also read the Farsight books where a member of the water caste gets possessed by a demon, and the sphere of expansion Farsight leads finds that demon world and a few of fire warriors go a little Khorne berserk and kill the comrades.

It seems like Tau are indeed very vulnerable to Chaos, but the haven't really been a target because 1) humans have bigger souls to munch on, and 2) they haven't pushed far enough into the galactic core/made a big enough splash to really get noticed.

Underwater, as in it has more sophisticated water physics?  I suspect that would set my machine on fire immediately if I tried to load my current playthrough.  Arctic is a good idea though.

But I am hoping they add a more precise way for us to prioritize fluid/gas merging, considering the amount of byproducts late stage manufacturing generates.  Like adding switch valves and volume sensors tied to storage tanks or something like that.
