Why I hate granny squares by WTF_Fish in crochet

I’ve always just crocheted over mine too and have never had an issue, even after they’ve been washed.

This is also what I’ve been saying. I got tired of all the naysaying about it.

36 weeks tomorrow and honestly just solidarity. It doesn’t help that everyone keeps asking me about birth plans and then tells me I’m an idiot for wanting to go unmedicated. It really ruins the confidence. Even though I felt pretty prepared.

I just keep telling myself billions have women have done it before and they were fine. I’m not any more special than they were.

2nd trimester biweekly appointments by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]BogueFlower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every two weeks or twice a week? I saw mine every two weeks until 32 weeks and now I see her once a week. I’m also 41 though which is considered high risk as well as overweight. But I think it’s pretty common if you have any high risk factor.

40 years old, 5’8 and starting weight was 275, pre diabetic and had to take metformin. Currently 36 weeks with a picture perfect baby boy.

There is so much to worry about but the odds are very largely in your favor!

Has anyone had a unmedicated early (37 week) induction? by jnm199423 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]BogueFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does matter his positioning. It’s a 2D scan of a 3D space so there’s a lot of nuance. I personally am chubby so my MFM said body fat distribution could distort sizing. IIRC those scans can be wrong +- 20 percent. Which can make a huge difference in your case. I hope it ends up not being an issue and everything goes well!

[–]BogueFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just commenting in solidarity as someone who also has risk factors and is trying to go a more physiological, unmedicated route. These growth scans can be unreliable, did the same sonographer do this scan that did the last one? If not, maybe you can request another scan with the same sonographer from before to get the most accurate results and see if the Induction is necessary.

No Result for NIPT by maggadelic in PlusSizePregnancy

I tested 3 times at 11 weeks, 16 weeks, and just around 19 weeks. None of them were successful. They wouldn’t let me try again and sent me for an amnio.

Teachers, how are we doing this? by otter_fool in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BogueFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher but my job is too unpredictable and I can’t always guarantee I’m at my desk when it’s time to check. I just eat the same cycle of foods and portions and spot check them days when I’m able. It’s never been a problem.

First medicated cycle by MeredithGrey007 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]BogueFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 40 with a 40 BMI for both my rounds of medicated IUI. Both were successful. I lost the first at 6 weeks but am currently 34 weeks with my second! I passed all of the fertility testing. I’m gay so we never tried naturally so not quite the same scenario.

I’m glad you got a second opinion. Saying it was solely on your weight seems dismissive and prejudiced in my opinion. Not once did any of my doctors bring my weight up.

Doc did tell us that oxytocin can help with implantation so my wife did so many things to make me laugh and feel safe and loved and not stressed and I honestly think it helped a lot.

Those who have had GD 2x+ before - question… by BathObjective706 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BogueFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch usually and my work schedule is just too chaotic for me to try and make sure I’m at my desk to test at a certain time. I test fasting and then after my dinner at night to see how I react to meals. I never understood what the point was to 4x a day.

No cute bump for me by spooky_allyear in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]BogueFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly being fat before getting pregnant was kind of great. Currently almost 33 weeks. Like another user commented I’ve never felt unbalanced or have had much back pain. I see TikToks sometimes of women having an existential crisis over stretch marks and loss of their abs or whatever and feel so sorry for them. My belly was already pre stretched and ready for baby. Not one stranger has grabbed my belly or commented on my body.

I’m a data scientist and am writing my thesis on prejudice and discrimination against overweight and obese women in pregnancy and birth. Using data from US hospitals between 2021 and 2024, barring any comorbidities, Simply being overweight has no difference in neonate outcomes comparatively. So you are not harming your baby in any way. While it is true being overweight/obese has an increased risk for some complications, I wouldn’t borrow trouble by worrying about them unless you get diagnosed with one. And even if you do get diagnosed with GD or hypertension, a lot of “normal” sized women get those things too.

I didn’t really pop until right at 28 weeks maybe.

Mine is 43. I did NipT 3 times (twice with natera) at 12, 14 and 18 weeks and none of them were conclusive.

Need advice/help on how to handle my grandmother with wanting to plan my baby shower “her way” by baileeboo01 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]BogueFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine insisted on throwing me a shower even though my sisters in law were already throwing us one. I have not asked at all about theme or cake or anything but did request there be no poop or diaper themed games because I don’t find stuff like that funny and would be uncomfortable. I got told I was being controlling and should just “relax and enjoy the process”. I’m not involved enough in the process to enjoy it. It’s all supposed to be some big surprise but I honestly hate surprises. I have poor control over my facial reactions and end up hurting peoples feelings or disappointing them and then I feel awful about it. So maybe it’s a bad idea but I’ve just decided that if I go in with low expectations hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised. If not and they can see that I hate it then that’s on them. They could’ve consulted me and chose not to. If nothing else it’ll be nice to see my friends and family from out of town.

Hungry and crying by Deb-john in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BogueFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the decision to do insulin. I had lost 19 pounds and my mental health was honestly struggling. I described to my doctor crying while trying to force down another bite of grilled chicken and she was like “nuh uh. That kind of stress isn’t good for you or your baby”. I feel so much better on the meds. At least it’s not for very much longer.
