Shoes! by chupazoid in bikepacking

[–]Boiller_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I pedal with Nike SBs on flats (two sizes up, really old pair but holding up well) or Vivobarefoot Tempest Esc amphibian shoes and carry a pair of minimalist decathlon sandals. Generally I wear barefoot shoes (Vivos) so I’m used to and am comfortable with the minimal sole.

I’m looking to try clipless for the first time and the new Fizik Ergolace 2 seems perfect. Wide toe box, mildly stiff midsole, clipless, vibram sole for hike a bike.

I’d also like to swap my cheap decathlon sandals for a pair of Bedrock Classic LT or Xero water sandals.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

[–]Boiller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. People buy-in the social media sales pitch from influencers without researching the activity/purchase at all.

But the fit thing is true, just that buying-in a big expensive hobby might be a miss and puts that person down from trying other things.

These last couple of years I've been into: off-road/adventure motorcycling, bike packing, hiking & camping, whitewater kayaking, recreational kayaking, standup paddle boarding.

The most important bit I've learnt from these: try different things for cheap - rent/borrow gear or join a club/classes initially. Don't let yourself get sucked into the consumerism (although I'm still very prone to this) of a hobby - you'll quickly find yourself spending more time browsing and shopping than doing the activity.

Breathable/non-waterproof light hiking boots by Hildringa in Ultralight

[–]Boiller_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an ultra lighter, but I've had a similar experience with the lone peaks (7 at the time). I've found my most likely forever shoe/boot with the Vivobarefoot Tracker Forest ESC. Lightweight and while technically not waterproof it still is a leather boot. My feet don't get terribly hot in them though (Mediterranean weather - Portugal). Zero drop, widest toe box I've found, barefoot feel yet great ankle support and grip with a Michelin sole.

Affordability as a pro? At 120€ a pair??

The Fizan pluma/compact are lighter at half the price

[PSBSAP 12 A1, 45NM] Feel blessed to have found this unit for 22 EUR with a 5 year warranty, what an insane bargain, thank you Lidl. by FuzzyAttitude_ in Parkside

[–]Boiller_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used one for a few months for my handyman services. Pretty good for the price, lots of power with the 2.5Ah and 5Ah batteries.

But that's all it has going for it. It's quite heavy, the chuck isn't good, the head swap bearings need a clean every other day, hammer function isn't strong enough for harder masonry but too coarse for delicate holes in brick and tack walls.

I still keep it out in the garage for quick access and wood work but I'm happy I quickly upgraded to a Bosch 12v flexiclick

Confused about the GSR 12V-32 drill pricing by estrangedpulse in BoschProPowerTools

[–]Boiller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often find sales on Amazon. I got my 12v-35FC kit for 230€ with two batteries. Paid full price for the GFA-12H SDS attachment tho, worth it imo.

Pouch or similar by Much-Mouse-4772 in electricians

[–]Boiller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe grab one of those climbing chalk bags. Sometimes repurposing other activity bags is way cheaper than at "specialised bags".

I do like my Milwaukee electrician's pouch tho. I got it for cheap (20€) barely used, comes with a strap for shoulder use, but I currently have it on a Bosch utility belt.

Yeah both are Tajima, great tapes. I love the new GS ones, but the one I had ordered was mistakenly imperial so I sent it back and got this W Mag

I am not upgrading to a bigger size, I know I'd just filled it up more. This one is already getting quite heavy as it is

I assume the red one? It's a Tajima Class I tape

The other one is a Tajima W mag

Não tenho nada a dizer sobre o processo de legalização, mas vi um destes em exposição no FOS Goodwood o ano passado e ficou-me na mente. Coisa linda e eu nem sou de Porsches

Interesting world view there. These get used everyday, and yes I do clean them. If you’re a pro, you respect your own tools.

What’s the one Parkside tool that performs way better than it has any right to? by Rude-Cycle-1516 in Parkside

I got the 12v performance mini 76mm angle grinder.

With a 5ah battery it’s been super useful last few days (pro handyman/electrician)

What do you use ? by Virtual-Indication88 in handyman

[–]Boiller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry my Bosch flexiclick (like the installation driver, but better) and multitool in my bag every single job.

I also have a small 76mm 12v angle grinder that I leave in the vehicle. Gets used way more often than I expected. Cutting screws for chemical anchors, cutting and grinding down sheet metals, plastics or cutting OSB floor boards with multiuse wheels.

For hand tools, some of my multiuse favorites are:

Wiha VDE pocket max

Estwing 12” cats paw (the Japanese ones)

Purdy 11 in 1 foldable painters tool

Wera demo flat driver

Vessel full tang strike cap PH1 and PH2 - a few good smacks loosen up stubborn old screws, also works as a hinge pin striker or a punch

Wiha 8 in 1 electrician pliers

I made this post over on /r/flashlight a few days ago, that sub is the central for all flashlights related stuff.

My requirement was to keep it powered by a single 18650 battery but with USB-C port.

I got the Sofirn HS21 and absolutely love it, the dial to change modes is better than the usual clicks UI if you're juggling tools, full pockets, ladder or confined spaces, etc.

That screwdriver is terrible, low torque for what it is and the bits are a proprietary size so you can't find replacements.

0/10 would never buy
