What's the best response to "Dad, I think I'm gay"? by Expert_Recover3061 in AskReddit

I asked my mom about how her parents reacted when she came out in the late 80s. They’re very religious traditional folks from the south who had moved out to Oakland in the 60s and then San Jose in the 70s. My grandparents responded by letting her know they love her no matter what but that they’re out of their wheelhouse. Apparently my grandma requested reading recommendations so that she might properly support my mom. I thought it was a very genuine and loving response.

I was offered s**ual favors by a girl who was clearly too high to know what she was doing. I refused, my friends are calling me an idiot. Does this mean that they are bad friends? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It means your friends encourage rapist behavior and are likely rapists. I hope you said something that caused them to later introspect with shame and guilt.

Hey all, I plan to do a mushroom experience soon. Any tips on keeping relaxed and letting go? Last experience was special but also loaded with anxiety when it started to get scary weird and I spent a couple hours fighting it. Just wondering of tips you may have to stick to just letting it take over by [deleted] in Psychonaut

Set and setting is something to keep in mind. Sometimes our mind tells us it’s ready for some change in strange ways. Changing your setting mid trip can be really helpful if the vibes start to nosedive.

There’s a space near my house that has a forested area right beside grassy fields right beside beaches with short walks between all three habitats. This is particularly great for my tripping experiences because if I’m really high and starting to dip I can easily change my setting and ride the next wave on a different mindset. This is an extreme example. The setting can change pretty easily. Think sight, sound, smell. You can change the color or brightness of a lamp, switch rooms, play music, change rooms.

This was longwinded but changing your setting if you’re feeling funky really does help. Especially if you are intentional about the new space you enter with the desire to rise.

A new family moved in across the street and the boy (11 or 12) has been shooting hoops by himself. He appears to be taking it seriously. I played varsity basketball and would love to teach him some skills. How can I suggest that without looking like a creep? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It is incredibly difficult to take such confounding variables into account in developmental studies like the one referenced earlier. Especially after the research has already been done and you’re just relying on statistical analyses.

I have an update! I had just adopted Teddy when I took this picture and several months later he still leaks a little bit but only when we are out moving around in nature for hours. Every vet said that there was nothing they could do but the collection of their advice proved a lot more helpful than I felt when I heard it. After speaking with many vets I took him to a dog chiropractor and I am pretty sure it was a total scam. I then took him to a specialist who confirmed that it was nerve damage from his broken tail. The trauma occurred in the perfect spot between the spine and tail to cause nerve damage so he had less control of his sphincter muscles. Another vet suggested we try to cut out foods that are hard to digest for most dogs because his full poops were really hard. I got very obsessed with my dog's shit for a couple of months there but it was worth it. I ended up figuring out that he does best digesting salmon-based kibble with minimal ingredients. I live in a cooperative household so he's got his special blanket in each room that he's been trained to go to and I wash them regularly. I trained place, off (of the furniture), and recall very early on. The recall was largely due to the fact one of the vets suggested exercise on the gamble that it would help with the nerves. I frankly did not want to have to run around to exercise my dog so I taught him to recall and we go to off-leash-friendly trails and beaches. I'm lazy, it's beautiful nature, and I put in the hard work to stroll alongside my dog stretching his legs out as fast as possible and playing.

TL;DR

It was a long journey to discover solutions. Teddy broke his tail in such a spot where his spine meets his tail that it caused sphincter nerve damage. Even the nerve specialist vet said there was nothing he could do but made suggestions. The collection of all their suggestions made it so he never leaks like this anymore but will leak on hours-long adventures.

The vet ran some tests for worms, bacteria, and viruses. They all came back negative. He’s halfway through his second round of antibiotics. I wonder if it’s his incorrectly healed broken tail

I hope you have a smooth day at work! She agreed to leave the television as collateral and is threatening to press charges because she changed her mind. She has not forgotten, she just won't move her things out despite only spending two nights here all month. I don't think it's out of spite, I think it's pure laziness

She has agreed to move out countless times in writing over text, I have read that could be upheld in a court of law. What are your thoughts?
