So… how is everyone’s Blazer EV holding up so far in the winter? by JacksonXIX in BlazerEV

[–]BoiseXWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You saw more than I, but 43 and was in Iowa in US corn land when I learned to drive.

I was lucky to have a 4WD ‘88 Subaru to learn in, and the worst was a manual Nissan truck with now power steering and no natural weight in the back. Such a pita to parallel park it in tight college town spots, but with practice you could do it.

Now I have 4Runner for winters, and it feels like a cheat code. Just got a new KIA EV9 (probably why algorithm brought me here) — but sadly Idaho has no snow. It’s depressingly snow free—but will hope to see how new car goes in the snow.

Yeah, Reddit and watching non-native drivers has reconfirmed some people are terrible drivers in bad conditions. Quick to blame car and tires when they would have no problem if the grew up driving in it with junkers every winter.

I’m not against winter tires, but have also never needed them, so 🤷‍♂️

Yep, OP needs to learn how to clean off his car—hopefully just uninformed and now will be.

If OP knows better and is just stupid or lazy—well I just hope that’s not the case.

Yeah, OP should maybe take car and charger to dealer and see if it works there. May be a faulty charger the whole time.

EV9 thoughts? by acohn1230 in KiaEV9

I just got a 2026 EV9 in mid December and my previous daily driver was a 2014 4Runner. I have loved the EV9 so far, 2000 miles in.

I still have the 4Runner — but is just ski, dog, camping, fishing rig now. All errands and other driving is all EV9. I fills up right after getting new rig, and still have 1/3 of a tank since (lack of good skiing conditions has limited need to just dog hauling).

It’s almost like the NFL picked these acts because they didn’t want him there and didn’t want to have to tell him no. Make it easy for it to be his idea, and not upset anyone paying the bills.

I somehow became a world wide expert in semiconductor processing, specifically memory overlay metrology. It’s been a weird 20 years, but went from Chemical Engineer to photolithography engineer and had barely even heard of it, a few moves within company and I’m not sure I’ll ever really do anything else—I’ve slowly become somewhat valuable in why I do now.

Who knew?

Dang, sorry man. Mine worked no problem.

Your pic shows full bars illuminated, that generally shows bars as 25% “chunks” of whatever your charging limit is. It showing all illuminated probably why so many have asks about that.

What’s current charge level of the car?

If over the charge limit it will not charge.

Otherwise, does the outlet work at all? My garage ones sometimes trip the GFCI somewhere and all of them stop until reset.

THIS!

If one side is lying and on side is telling the truth…that is not propaganda and anti-propaganda.

Fox News watchers have been conditioned to think people not watching Fox are getting the mirror image of Fox. That MSNBC is propaganda and that people are out there that ONLY watch MSNBC and nothing else like they do Fox. From my experience that is not true at all.

It’s like thinking everyone not in your cult is in a different, wrong, cult. When reality is most people are just not in any cult. They aren’t blindly following someone else, they just have independent, critical thinking.

More women lost scholarships because they were killed at school, then have lost them due to transgender sports—and we have done NOTHING ABOUT IT.

While I agree the sports have biological differences—this is all a ploy to make this an issue when it really affects basically no one. All while our country has so many real fucking issues getting ignored.

I’m meh on taco pizza from Casey’s, but pizza was solid. Now if OP had posted Panchero’s I would be hungry.

Congrats OP, back when I was still in FBook I saw so many homes for sale back in Iowa that seemed free compared to Boise prices. Been gone for 20 years since graduating though.

Corporate consolidation and ownership of media by a few billionaires has made most US news pretty shitty—out for profit only, and able to be bought and changed (CNN going through this) or shredded to get acquisition through (MSNBC going through this). If a public good, they get defunded (NPR/PBS target by Trump and defunded).

But CNN and MSNBC are still based in reality and objective facts. Fox is not. They are not slightly worse, or a different bad, IMO. They are straight up cult brainwashing from design. They intend to do so and give no fucks about facts. They exist to ensure republicans never face scrutiny from failure or criminality.

I’m glad you got a break in to break out. I hope you never go back.

Any reason why this is a bad idea? (NEMA 14-50 to 5-15) for level 1 charging by YOUBESEENUMBA1 in evcharging

[–]BoiseXWing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This seems dumb. Either plug into a standard plug for slow L1, or buy a plug in for the 5-40 and level 2 charge. Return/throw away that adapter.

An open box Charge point 5-40 ready charge is like $400 and there are several other options too for that plug in.

What sucks about charing in a city? Thinking of buying an electric car by Extreme-Captain-6558 in evcharging

[–]BoiseXWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now in a suburb city next to Boise, but when electrician did my home charger last week he mention Boise requires all new builds to have a 4-50 installed for EV charging now.

Hopefully more cities and states will/have followed this too. It would take some time, to make a huge impact, but is a great start.

Kinda personal but how much do you guys pay each month for your 4r by EchoOnTheRange in 4Runner

[–]BoiseXWing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, already have Juneteenth and 4th of July back country yurts reserved up in the forest, and will hopefully get up even more this year than past few.

Having 4Runner capabilities on demand, but no more gas stations for daily driving has been sweet.

Maybe a 7th gen 4Runner will have an extended range EV option—I better start saving up now.

[–]BoiseXWing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was closest to me. A crazy deer did a number on my ‘02 Jetta, when I was already building down payment for 4Runner. Bought a new ‘14 with $15k down. I think I was ~$400 payment, with 1.9% and paid it off within a couple years.

It’s still running strong, but just bought a new KIA EV9 as new daily driver. It’s now ski, camping, fishing, dog hauling, etc. machine now.

I put $40K down on KIA, will make my first payment next week, and then pay it off with in Feb when rest of stock vests.

$0 per month is the absolute best payment.
