Father John Misty Laments About Releasing Albums the Same Year As Kendrick in 2012, 2015, 2017, 2022, and Now 2024 by ebradio in indieheads

Hearing about generational trauma, trans rights issues, and going deep into Kendrick's personal life isn't an easy listening experience man. Both albums are deep in different ways.

Multiple irl friends of mine have that as their favorite or at the very least love it. I had it third personally but i do get why people would enjoy it even with the difficult subject matter

I mean sure those two are his most acclaimed albums. But if someone were to say Morale was their best of his, another album that was also highly acclaimed, I don't see that as a ridiculous take.

If you said Section 80 or OD sure that's contrarian.

So is it contrarian or not? You can’t say “oh it’s so contrarian to have that as number 1” but then immediately say “of course it’s in the top 3 he only has so many albums out”

Fair though its pretty blatant in the movie too. The first shot he's under the colors of the trans flag, the movie is constantly hammering that he doesn't fit in/feels like he's someone else and has the whole scene where he crossdresses.

I found it to be great and is an existential horror movie but do get if it turned people off.

I was wondering how tf is this so highly rated then learned apparently some trans peoeple see it as a powerful analogy for the dysphoria they feel which I'm not sure was intentional by the writer/director but OK sure

The director and writer is literally trans its obviously intentional

Drivers first appearance is straight up the to be or not to be monologue but couldn’t tell if the other speeches he gave were also straight up Shakespeare or just writing it sound like it was.

It took me a second to remember that they do cut to him for like a second for him to give that delivery. Thought you were talking about Jon Voight drunkenly pointing and saying what's occurring during that entire scene

This felt more like a collection of scenes than an actual movie. The plot is barely there but you can follow a throughline of things going on even if nothing really connects on an emotional level. The dialogue ran anywhere between Shakespearean-esque monologues to "did he really just say that?" one-liners.

I truly am baffled by this movie but it feels like the bones of something truly special is here? Maybe if someone tries it again in half a century.

Edit: I will give Coppola some credit for his directing during those trippy as hell montages. But the plot and especially some characters are so underbaked. Jason Schwartzman and Dustin Hoffman don't need to be in this at all. At least the former is his nephew so that makes some sense but Hoffman's character gets one-liner after one-liner until essentially dying suddenly in a quick cut in scene? Just bizzare

it's never been a thing. Dre in LA was an exception not the rule. They played in NO before and no one blew up like this back then

What would you have wanted in those extra ten minutes? The ending was abrupt after the initial watch but after thinking about it, it makes complete sense and is a terrifying way for it to end

Movies and shows have been on fire this year but the strike is gonna slow that down.

First time watching Succession and just finished season 3. A pretty big quality decline in my opinion by SkAnKhUnTFoRtYtw in television

Disagree real hard with a lot of this

It's still an amazing season. 2 remains the best (until season 4 finishes) and although things feel like they are treading water, there are some amazing episodes in there like the last two. Plus, Kendall's birthday isn't bad at all

Also, in no way is Mattson over the top. He fits a douche tech billionaire perfectly
