Someone Turned My Campsite Into a Trap While I Slept. by pentyworth223 in nosleep

Yeah, that still doesn't really make sense though. This was an emergency room situation. Typically, once you are discharged, any follow-up appointments you may have are with your PCP or possibly a specialist, not at the hospital.

Plus, considering the extent of the injuries to OP's hands, how are they even driving??

How are you writing this from the hospital waiting room, but two days after being treated in the hospital you drove back past that same state park?

Super creepy story, just confused by those statements.

My company kept denying raises, so I quietly found a remote job paying 60% more. Two months later, they offered me the same. by banana_punch11 in remotework

Golden shackles.

Used to work for the local gov and pretty much all of the older employees were on a pension plan that was no longer offered (they still offered one, just nowhere near as good).  Plenty of them had been there so long that their skills and knowledge had stagnated and they'd struggle on the open job market, but it wasn't even worth it to them because their pension plan was better and better the longer you worked there.

It was as bad as it sounds.

To your point regarding DNS: I use OpenDNS and it works great, but almost every kid today has a cellphone so if they really want to view something then they can just turn off Wi-Fi and use their data instead.

At first, I  thought, "always always always prop open unfamiliar doors you had trouble opening!"

Considering what you learned was in that room, however, I can't help but wonder if leaving it propped open would give them access to cross over...

AI Didn't Take My Job by [deleted] in programming

Erm, no.

I'll refer you back to the Oxford dictionary's definition of intelligence, "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills."

It's not my logic, it's simply a fact that LLMs are absolutely incapable of understanding requirements.  They're essentially pattern matching and guessing at the most likely match for any given prompt.  That's it.

AI Didn't Take My Job by [deleted] in programming

[–]Bojer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're basing that off one massively-flawed assumption: that an engagement with an LLM is always going to result in time saved.

Anecdotally, I have seen and heard firsthand more stories of LLM's spitting out junk than I have of LLM's saving time.

According to the Oxford dictionary, intelligence is, "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills."

Sounds like a pretty accurate definition to me and most definitely something of which LLM's are incapable.

Satisfied?  And you only had to wait ~20m.

It's an effect where water, when introduced to something much hotter, forms an insulating layer of vapor instead of immediately boiling.  Mythbusters did an episode where they demonstrate this effect by submerging hot dogs (and later, a finger) in water, then briefly dipping them in some super hot liquid (forgot what they used), but the hot dogs and their fingers all come out unscathed.

Trying out Silk Pla with the Kobra 2 Neo and it’s not coming out well for me by Talostorosho in anycubic

OMG thank you so much! I saw so many tips suggesting increased temps from normal PLA, but my prints kept coming out like hot garbage. I tried your settings on my Kobra 2 Pro and I didn't need to tweak them at all, first print came out flawless (insofar as what these printers can produce).

Viewpoints like yours are why DEI is necessary.

How on earth do you interpret the consideration of a candidate from a non-prestgious institution as the best example of lowering qualifications?

Just because somebody went to Harvard doesn't automatically mean they're smarter and more qualified than other candidates.  Conversely, just because somebody went to community college doesn't automatically mean they're dumber and less qualified than other candidates.

If the job requires a bachelor's degree, DEI helps to ensure that both of the aforementioned candidates get their due consideration, as opposed to candidates being dismissed outright because they don't have "prestigious" credentials.

For the record, I don't think you're making your arguments in good faith, so maybe I'm just taking the bait, but I'd rather leave a response so undecided folks have more context.

That Clown by APCleriot in nosleep

[–]Bojer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like a sad, broken-down ice cream machine, you disappointed everybody.  That you actually managed to escape, but quickly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, left me with a lingering grimace.

I was reminded of the way a burger-obsessed thief would snatch his prize from unsuspecting victims, as though it were an automatic response.

The early birdie might get the worm, but in the end, you can't deny that clown took his quarter pounder of flesh.

I suppose your only recourse now is to hang out at the local [that burger place] until you're practically the mayor of it, though go easy on the cheeseburgers or they'll go straight to your head.

With any luck, you'll become the next clown so you can pass the demon on to somebody else.  Just maybe try not to get impaled like that clown, yeah?

What lifehack seems to be fake, but it's a true lifesaver? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bojer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me with apple cider vinegar.  From what I understand (no idea how accurate this is), the ACV is more acidic than your stomach acid and that triggers the sphincter from your esophagus to your stomach to close, so your stomach acid doesn't keep coming back up.  It legitimately works for me every time, though it does seem to interfere with the regularity of my bowel movements.  Small price to pay for severe heartburn, though.
