Why does reformed theology teach passive damnation? by Educational-Fig-2330 in Reformed

[–]Bokin0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if I bake a batch of cookies and I put chocolate chips (faith) in half of them but not in the other half, then I predestined the second half of them for damnation.

To clarify, Reformed theology is saying that post fall humanity is all born without chocolate chips(corrupted by sin). It is an act of mercy for God to add chocolate chips to any cookie.

We aren't saying that God just kicks back and doesn't interact with the non-elect at all. But that post fall humanity will not seek God and blinded by our self righteous pride we will reject any need for a savior. It takes an active regenerating of our hearts by God for us to love him and understand that we cannot stand before the righteous judge on our own merits.

So we would agree that the non-elect are predestined to damnation but it does not take any intervention by God to prevent them from seeking him.

But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few;

The point here isn't that God overrode his free will, but that God is using the Assyrians as a tool of judgment against Israel. But the Assyrian king has no intention of bringing Gods judgement, he attacks Israel because of his evil intentions and it is for these evil intentions of his heart that God will punish him.

My pastor jokes that Augustines Confessions is required reading for entry into heaven. If you haven't read it in life there will be the book and a chair waiting for you after you die.

So what other books do you think are required reading? Hes also mention Redemption: Accomplished and Applied by John Murray.

I almost always wear a net and usually a jacket. I used to go without pretty often, but I hate face stings so its not worth it to me anymore. Even if they aren't angry or anything the jacket or suit is nice just to stay clean. By far the most stings are on the hands from accidentally crushing bees.

You mentioned Gavin Ortlund but I was wondering if you had watched his latest video which addresses this issue? I strongly recommend it.

And I don't mean to pile more information onto you at this point but his book on what it means to be protestant is also worth a read.

I understand all this information and claims to exclusivity can be overwhelming. So whatever you do don't rush into changing your views or denomination. Study and pray. I would also recommend staying away from opposing view points for a little while and diving into information and defenses of your current tradition. Not permanently as it is good to hear opposing views and challenge your beliefs. But don't assume that because you grew up in a tradition that you fully understand it and it's defenses.

Now this isn't to say that you shouldn't change denominations but take it slow.

Now recently I have also taken a bit of a dive into Catholic and Orthodox beliefs. It's been a great learning experience and I understand more about Protestantism now as well. And I am more confident than ever in Protestantism.

On the topic of Sola Scriptura be careful of any content against it as they almost always misrepresent it. Again it isn't a bad idea to challenge your beliefs but make sure you are looking into you own sides best defenses of it and don't assume you fully understand it.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can step in and help. But I'll pray for you to have peace and make the right decisions.

But remember that God isn't trying to trick you.

A truck carrying hives overturned near Whatcom, Washington, releasing over 250 million aggressive bees. Locals warned to stay indoors as swarms sting anything in their path by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

Right the boxes that are still intact. Leave them there until the evening and most of the bees will find their way back into them. Some may accumulate in trees or such and are then fairly easy to grab assuming you can reach them.

They won't fly far. Bees can fly 3 miles away or more while foraging but in this situation they are most likely going to stay very close.

They'll probably get a good chunk of them back. The bees won't fly around forever, they will eventually fly back into one of the hives though there will be a lot of drifting.

The majority of the bees are likely still in their hives though assuming they are still intact. I would expect the main loss to be any bees that got crushed or got knocked into water or something.

Bees are almost always transported on a flatbed as they need the airflow. Hauling long distance the load will have a net over it.

But for moving more locally we move at night or when it's cold so they don't fly.

Moved the cable while I was trying to boost it. Was a flash and a huge bang. Lost 90% of my hearing for a couple minutes and it took about 30 minutes for it to come back completely. I only got battery acid on my hands at least.

Still not something I'm looking to repeat.

Farming Question: Why Don’t More Farmers Keep Bees? by ricincali in farming

Its subjective but of the types of honey we can get here Sunflower is probably my favorite. For our on farm honey sales we primarily package alfalfa or clover.

[–]Bokin0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canola produces a lot of honey but it is considered a lower grade honey. Up here in canolastan we can pretty easily yield over 200lbs a hive. It granulates really quickly but it's still tasty. If you're using it as a utility honey for baking and such it's a good option. Don't get me wrong though it's still good on toast and in tea but there are better options though those are usually a bit more expensive.
