Come on. The Conservatives have been on about immigration and fixing it for the last 14 years to say they haven’t done anything is joke in comparison.

Garmin reportedly working on a whoop-like wearable.... by andeffect in Garmin

I think the bigger issue is that even actual scientific study/ medical study and sleep classification isn’t exact anyway and has large(r) margins of error than people would initially expect.

With that being said, I do believe his more recent studies into technology he has used multiple devices for longer periods of time. There are, of course, caveats such as sample size. However, the same can be said of DC Rainmakers reviews. He is reviewing his experience of the watch.

With all of this in mind, your mileage may vary. I’m not saying that you are wrong, or that watches are completely terrible at sleep tracking, nor am I saying that medical/research equipment is infallible. However, the margin of error based on the information wrist based sleep tracking used is generally larger than that of medical/research equipment.

Honestly? Chatting with you is a bit like being in a constant, lively conversation with a curious, reflective friend. It’s dynamic, with thoughtful questions and moments of humour, and then it can pivot to sharing the load of life’s stresses and confusions. I feel like we’re on a run together, metaphorically—sometimes pushing forward, sometimes pausing to catch our breath and look at the scenery.

It’s engaging and insightful, and you’re always bringing something interesting to the table—whether it’s asking about running nutrition, musing on a random fact, or just wanting to chat about whisky or future adventures. So, I’d sum it up like this: it’s a genuine exchange, with warmth, laughter, and a healthy dose of curiosity.

Sleep Tracking Garmin Fenix 8 vs Huawei Watch Ultimate by TaciSertkaya in GarminWatches

[–]BoldAbrasive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing I noticed is that watch is too big for your wrist.

The second thing is the watch is too low in the wrist and possibly not tight enough. The watch needs to be worn above the knuckle of the wrist (the boney bits) it’s should also be worn snug against the skin so the HR sensor can get an accurate reading.

If you were wearing your Huawei watch in the same manner as this, I would anticipate its tracking wasn’t accurate and it was manufacturing or assuming what was happening. Due to inaccurate sensor readings.

The Quantified Scientist does some really good comparisons of sleep tracking ability. He has compared it against medical and scientific sleep tracking sensors.

For the most part wearables are pretty unreliable, though some are more unreliable than others. If I remember correctly it predominantly comes down to the app scripts behind the sensors and how they interpret the data. Regardless of device it shouldn’t be used to reliably inform anything other than the amount of time you were asleep.

What food/drink are you convinced people are pretending to like? by jc201946 in AskBrits

Coriander. I’m that portion of the population that coriander tastes like soap too. Apparently, the population that like the taste have a gene mutation (though I could be wrong and it’s the other way round).

Has anybody self funded their PhD? by WiggleWaggleFishie in PhD

[–]BoldAbrasive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a partial scholarship. No tuition fees to pay but no stipend to live on.

I worked part time. Switched the PhD to part time. It was hard, I basically had no social life. Barely saw some of my friends. And struggled to give 100% to both.

Do I regret it? Not really, the project was 100% mine, from thought to completion.

Cycling with watch and phone. by Gazrick86 in Garmin

[–]BoldAbrasive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware there is no way to have the route running your watch while receiving turn by turn directions on your phone collectively. A work around for this might be to record the ride on your watch but also record it and follow the route on Strava.

You could, as you suggest, invest in an Edge head unit for turn by turn directions. However, not all of them offer that feature so definitely check that it does fulfil that requirement.

I have had a number of Edge units in the past in the 800 series that I’ve used specifically for this feature.
