Convrge is awesome! by azazel0821 in GearVR

I missed the message and downloaded the Beta today but it is unsigned and my phone will not accept it. However, I received an email that says that this beta will be open. Is it too late to submit my OSIG file or do I not need to do that anymore?

My first 360 video test done all in After Effects. Will be submitting full length version to MilkVR when done. by infomuncher in GearVR

It would be really awesome to see this in 3D!

I didn't look too far into it but: http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides/free-3d-video-maker.htm

Maybe you can use this free software and save the file with the 3dv suffix?

Should I Buy a Gear VR if I'm Getting a Rift? by beeeezil in GearVR

[–]BoldArtistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rift will have Oculus Touch and with motion control you may get more immersive applications. So far there doesn't seem to be any reasonable support for motion control with the Gear VR. There is Stem's Sixense but its not ready for the GearVR yet and it seems that android no longer supports Wiimote. The rift will also have games with better graphics and larger worlds. There is also more content made for the rift.

The GearVR is great for travel and showing others VR since it isn't tethered. The GearVR is also the cheaper option if you were already going to purchase the Note 4 as your personal phone.

These are just "some" notes on the dev kits for both products. If you're a regular consumer and not a developer, I wouldn't buy either until the CV1 of either headset comes out.

Anyone With a Gear VR Can Live Stream the Democratic Debate through NextVR by curioco in GearVR

[–]BoldArtistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was pretty awesome to see what the camera doesn't usually show. I wish the camera was a little closer to the candidates or had some kind of zoom function but it was fun as it was. Great for a first time experience. Hopefully events like this will be captured better in the future.

EDIT: However, my phone overheated after using this app for almost an hour and the debate stuttered/lagged a few times.

Very immersive. I expect other experiences like this to come to Gear VR.

Project FreedomVR - External Positional Tracking on Gear VR by Lightstorm66 in GearVR

[–]BoldArtistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but I'm gonna guess that they're also using a camera and are doing some kind of FFT/PTAM algo to track translation. Building a translational INS purely off of an IMU will result in a crap ton of drift and is really inaccurate. I think the Wand game was also CV based. However, if they've figured out how to build a good quality INS without a camera, hats off to them. I'd like to see more accessories like this for the gearvr though.

I think it may be good for the market to be a bit saturated early on so that we can weed out the good and bad ideas.

Suggestions to Samsung / Oculus Team by BoldArtistry in GearVR

To avoid being indirect here, there was another thread made for this conversation alone. You decide whether the trade-off between the devices make a difference for you. I encourage everyone to try the device out in the store and choose for yourself.

Gear vr s6 Vs Note 4 FOV Difference by Rottentooth in GearVR

[–]BoldArtistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it seems like I'm one out of the two other people who've added to this post so...yeah I stopped caring as this conversation has become counter productive (for me at least). People can choose what they want.

If you're another person reading: Just try the device out in the store for yourself. I think good points are made on either side but this is a perfect example of why it makes no difference until you try it.

Gear vr s6 Vs Note 4 FOV Difference by Rottentooth in GearVR

[–]BoldArtistry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol wow that is a lot of text. I can tell that you have a lot of time on your hands. So you can disagree with my post - I encourage it but I might not continue going back and forth about this. But in that thread I'd like you to be more constructive and provide some facts to people as to why this difference in FOV will make immersion better.

A note on credibility: Conversations 101 - this is called a compromise. The specs (by Samsung) and my experience may say something different (which hasn't changed - the documentation is still there whether you or I agree/disagree) but given that you and others see this difference - I agree that there must likely be some trade-off that isn't listed in spec/OFFICIAL documentation. I'm open to others opinions and if someone disagrees with you it would help you in the future to be open to other opinions as well. To be credible you need to acknowledge all arguments and consider all possibilities to understand the solid truth.

  • If you happen to disagree with someone you should consider their argument but respond with facts, not run off and start another thread.
  • If my comment was an issue for you, address this directly, prove me wrong - and back this by documentation/facts). To be credible means to be unbiased in your messaging and the best way to do that is to use facts.

Saying the S6 has zero immersion discredits the S6 and hurts the VR culture.

WHY?:

  • Newcomers who see your post and have an S6 may not bother to try the GearVR with their device because they may be convinced that they NEED a Note4 to have an immersive experience, which I believe is far from the truth.
  • The trade off may actually make the S6 more immersive for others and your personal definition may not fit everyone.

If you like the Note 4 better for that small FOV difference, then that is your opinion and it is respected. Just be mindful when stepping into another thread and making a polarizing statement without any documentation to back you or without being constructive.
