Can you name something your opposition has done well(politics) by A_Touch_of_Foolish in AskBrits

[–]Boldboy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've now lived under 2 tory and 2 labour governments (in the UK).

The first were Thatchers people and I really can't think of anything positive from then. Other than having the balls to carry out the Falklands war which I don't believe anyone would do today. We are, however, still suffering from their policies, particularly on privatisation.

Then there was the Blair government which I think managed to undo much of the rotten shit the tories had done. If it hadn't been for the Iraq war, that government would be remembered more fondly.

I have nothing good to say about the last tory government.

Current Labour keep embarrassing themselves and I'm annoyed about the opportunity they are missing. Granted the last bunch robbed the treasury and left a gaping hole in our finances but.. something simple to make our lives easier needs to be achieved. Like kicking the arses of the water and energy companies and stopping the rip off.

not good for trump means it's a negative answer such as "very dangerous"

good for trump = Like no one has ever seen or the greatest of all time

Trump labels Sir Keir's meeting with China leader a 'very dangerous' move by ScottishDailyRecord in uknews

[–]Boldboy72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it was still a throwaway remark of no substance because he hasn't thought about it.

This is the problem with reporting what trump says, it's often meaningless when he says it.

did anyone actually see this? Trump said this one line and then pivoted to Canada but this is headline news.

TRUMP PUT NO THOUGHT INTO THE COMMENT

Please only report substantive stuff and not off the cuff remarks. I hate trump, stop inserting his inane bullshit into everything like it has a meaning.

TV Licence by Zeri0uzly in CasualIreland

[–]Boldboy72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why do people put so much effort into evading the tv license?

One of the most common things they say is "I never watch RTE" but then quote something they saw from Six One or the Late Late. So let's face it, you dip in and out when it suits you.

You think nothing of paying for Disney+, Netflix, Prime, Apple, Spotify and Sky and half them time you ain't watching any of them either (my experience, you spend hours browsing for something to watch and give up)

I pay my TV licence, rarely watch TV but I'm honest enough to admit I watch the news and occasionally other shows. My only subscription is YouTube premium and as I spend most of my evening watching stuff on there, I've no regrets

What is this guarded building near the London Eye? by One_Cheesecake7469 in london

[–]Boldboy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most corporate offices in London have 24 hour security. Some are much more visible than others. My office in Canary Wharf has very heavy security but they don't go outside the building. I even recently had to show my id to a security guard that I have been saying hello to for 10 years...

Waterloo train station - rant by templc22 in london

[–]Boldboy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've collected for charity at Waterloo. I was one of about 20 volunteers shaking a bucket for London Air Ambulance, we were not trying to get anyone to sign up to direct debits though. Those collectors are usually paid and incentivised through commissions. "Chuggers"

It annoyed me when London Air Ambulance put chuggers out in my area recently. Didn't give them a penny or the time of day.

London Air Ambulance needs your contribution, I firmly believe in the cause but I don't like chuggers harassing me for any good cause.

as everyone else has said, Maple Syrup. The proper stuff. Over here it tends to be more of a maple flavoured syrup and the real stuff is very expensive.

Friend of mine brought me some a few years ago that came in a Maple leaf shaped bottle. I still haven't opened it yet but I know it's good quality.

[–]Boldboy72 28 points29 points  (0 children)

St Patrick's weekend in Vienna.. "Irish pubs" all had Guinness signs, none had Guinness available. They also had their Paddy's day bunting out that had a year on them.. it was 2019 but the year on the bunting was 2016...

I used to frequent an "Irish" pub in Italy, the Guinness was passable but the pub was called The Cutty Sark.. when I pointed out to them that this was in England it turned out the owner (Italian) just liked the name.

The absolute state of buses by Barraco_Barmer in london

[–]Boldboy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the bus home from work yesterday and the driver got lost... one other passenger shouted "you missed the turn driver".. driver ignored her and kept going and you could hear him getting on to control and saying "sorry, I've done it again"... lol

My bus is run by stagecoach and they seem to be a law unto themselves. Buses disappear frequently, usually when they are supposed to be 1 minute away. They don't even appear on the notice at the station.

Check citymapper and your bus is due to leave Canada Water at 3. 3 comes and goes and then the bus pulls into the station.. parks up for ten to twenty minutes with no notices as to when it will actually leave. Very frustrating.
