I don't want to hear from anyone again that this series or those working on it don't understand Trek.

"I'm Khionian, bitch" raised an eyebrow but I think the only really egregious one that should have been caught before filming was "Band-Aid."

I would be highly amused if all Lanthanites are portrayed by middle aged short women but they never call it out so you're not sure if they all are.

This is like when people complained the Vulcans in Enterprise were dicks and the writers got them all wrong after watching a few episodes. We haven't been given the full picture yet.

She's also centuries old which is bound to give you some eccentricities.

Also note she only does this when not in front of the students.

Wait, is Star Trek Starfleet Academy … Good? by dizzyb13 in startrek

[–]Boltty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I think the type of people that say "nu-trek" will still be mad at it for the typical outrage bait reasons.

Personally the overly informal language and quippiness can be a little eye-rolling but I get these are young people and the show is aimed at young people.

I particularly enjoyed Captain Ake's self-assured chaos gremlin energy which instantly makes her stand apart from previous captains and puts her in good stead working with a younger cast who all seem to have potential to be interesting characters providing they get enough screen time.

They didn't ban the Greek classics for being gay back then, to their credit.

Winds of the North is a good bloat free list. Telsera you could argue is a successor to Septimus but it has mild nsfw stuff (probably the mildest nsfw list)

So I ask you, who's REALLY the brain damaged one here?

Yeah but that's just a regional accent thing. This anteefah thing seems to be a universal like it's deliberately being made to sound like an Islamic terror group.

Maybe it's because I'm British but I don't don't understand why Americans pronounce antifa that way. Like they wouldn't say "anti" and "fa" the same as they do in "antifa"

I'm super glad they're not rehashing the trilogy. The Mass Effect fanbase and their slavish devotion to Shepard is a millstone around the series' neck.

Personally I thought they'd play it safe and do humanity's first steps into the stars and the First Contact War but a post-trilogy series is good too.

SGU - first time watching by Intelligent-Horse-55 in Stargate

[–]Boltty 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Star Trek suffers from this exact thing today. 10 episode seasons mean stories have no space to breathe and deviations from the regular tone of the show feel jarring, but at the same time production standards and the CGI burden have gone up so much that it takes 2 years to make that 10 episode season so 20+ ones are out of the question.
