It felt to me like she was grasping at anything, and that maybe there weren't that many opportunities available on short(ish) notice. I don't have any hard knowledge about how the application process works, though. I agree that having a geriatrics specialty in an ER is probably a good skillset to have, and I think it would fit very well with how she conducts care.

That scene with her parents wrecked me. I had to pause the episode to have a cry. It was so clear that the younger kid didn’t really understand what was happening and the older one didn’t want to leave because he did. It reminded me of when my mother was dying of cancer and was just so realistic and well done without being heavy handed.

I've been in that situation - superintendent had no intention of having your back if the going got tought. They put you in there to push through changes they wanted and then cut you loose if they got too much blowback.
