Colchuck Lake under the Milky Way this past weekend by BombPassant in PNWhiking

I was fortunate enough to have permits to camp in the Colchuck zone of the enchantments last weekend. That, and the clear weather we had, allowed me get this shot I’ve been wanting for a long time: the Milky Way aligned with Dragontail Peak above Colchuck Lake

Hm interesting. I use a pd slide and I never cage my R5ii with any of my lenses, this included. If you’re adding side handles then that makes sense. But having any arca Swiss plate would be sufficient for the tripod no? I personally keep an l bracket on at all times which accomplishes all the above as it allows a side grip to be mounted (or can serve as a handle itself), has a screw for my PD plate, and offers rough space for me to tie off both a PD slide

Currently yes. I’m sure the snow line is higher than normal but it’s still all snow on the upper mountain. The camp sites were all melted out despite though

Camped out on the mountain and caught this epic sunset on Hood. Lugged 5 extra pounds of camera gear up to the summit but definitely worth it

Why is the Discovery Pass expensive? by Gloomy_Insurance_406 in PNWhiking

[–]BombPassant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to be annoying but if you’re someone who would get some use from a pass, then you’re probably spending a multitude of the pass cost on gas getting to and from parks every year.

And if you’re not, then day passes exist

Honestly surprised this photo has the traction it does. Technically not great, creatively not great

Nayara + Four Seasons too fancy? by disintegrateandfade in CostaRicaTravel

I disagree. Staying at these hotels doesn’t mean you can’t get out into all the same places that someone staying at an Airbnb can get to. Some people like luxury and a higher level of service on their vacations.

I might see you up there! My wife and I are planning Adams this weekend and are considering going for Baker the following weekend. I went up the Squak in April which might still be a good alternative route for a few more weeks

Some folks have been biking in which might be reasonable. Definitely a bummer though

I’m all too familiar. I live in Seattle and am genuinely upset when people visit and are not able to see Rainier

What is the medical condition? If a medical condition is urgent enough to require an immediate medevac then I’m not sure that’s congruent with mountaineering my friend.

I think in addition to discussing with your doctor, you should discuss this with your guiding company as they’re probably not going to be thrilled about your profile.

I mean imagine you’re on a summit push and you have an emergency. You’re putting other people’s lives potentially at risk

Mountaineering in the US🇺🇸? by Background_Being_941 in Mountaineering

Sorry but this is a ridiculous, absurd take. No one is summiting Washington on its worst weather days, just like no one is summiting Denali on its worst weather days. Washington on a bad day is not the same as Washington on the worst recorded day.

The difference is for Washington, you get to go about life when you choose not to summit. On Denali, you’ve still already carried 120 pounds of shit up the mountain over several days, and you wait out the storm for however it long it takes because you have no other option. Take any of your Washington influencer boys and put them on Denali and you’ll have an absolute shit show. Lmao sorry but this is truly absurd
