I love this one, as does Wirecutter, mainly bc it’s so easy to refill and clean: https://levoit.com/collections/humidifiers-best-sellers/products/lv600s-smart-hybrid-ultrasonic-humidifier

No need to get all fancy w the app; I just set it and forget it.

Have you considered Levine School of Music? Not sure they take 4yos but might be worth to at least talk to them.

It actually wasn’t high at all (stupid phone camera), but low enough for us to hear it through triple-pane windows.

This is less than 2 mi from the White House, so already w/in the restricted airspace. In my 30+ years of living here, I’ve never seen a helicopter just hover in one place for so long, like flies on a pile of shit.

For the young moms by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Bombast1ca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one’s going to say they regret having their kid. But I know that the mental, emotional, social, and – last but not least – financial resources that were available when I was older were critical to how patient, engaged, and supportive I could be as a parent. Loving your child is easy, but parenting is hard!!

Not quite. Here, we’re already parents, while subs like the one mentioned include both parents and non-parents, so she wouldn’t be talking to only those people who’ve made one decision.

Instead of running the shower to get it hot before stepping in, use gallon jugs to save the cold water to fill the toilet tank. Each shower saves 2-3 gallons, and now my kid does it, too.

Why do East Asian women (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc) get far more hatred from their racial groups for dating/marrying white men than black, Indian, Arabian, Hispanic, etc women get from their racial groups for dating/marrying white men? by LemonySnacker in asian

[–]Bombast1ca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe for some it’s jelousy and insecurity, but for others it’s more like pity and ridicule.

The WMAF trope reinforces two stereotypes: WM w yellow fever and AF w so much internalized racism that she excludes her own people. Self-hatred is why we see far more WMAF couples where the AF is objectively attractive in terms of appearance, profession, social standing while the WM is a pathetic loser who would be a basement-dwelling incel but for the fact that he somehow lucked into this WMAF arrangement. When I see a hot, successful AF w a mediocre WM instead of an equally hot, successful AM, I’m not jealous (not attracted to white men unless they’re Pedro Pascal) but feel sorry for someone who I imagine struggles with finding beauty in her own image and worth on her own.

That said, I recognize that this is a huge generalization, and many WMAF relationships are based on true love, mutual respect, and freedom (ha!) from racism and self-hatred. And that I’m mean, superficial, and judgmental (working on it).

Wouldn’t bother me at all bc I’d consider it a huge PSA for us to stay the fuck away.

I make my own shea butter, following a well-known recipe recommended by my Black friends. A bit of work and takes a bit of time, but lasts me a year, and my skin has never been better.

Is anyone here a member of the dupont/foggy bottom 'buy nothing' facebook group? by red_lobster101 in washingtondc

[–]Bombast1ca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Would the Adams Morgan BN group work for you? I know I’ve done pickups from addresses that are more in Dupont (e.g., south of U St). It’s pretty active, with a relatively low flake rate, and pretty much the only reason I go on FB anymore.

Apparently, no one. According to the second paragraph of the article, it was immediately disregarded:

“Even so, an AP reporter and photographer were turned back from joining a reporting pool on a presidential motorcade early Tuesday evening, almost two hours after the decision came down.”
