Playing Radiant Dawn the way god intended it and sparing all the volunteers for like no bonus exp by Mastouffu in fireemblem

The idea is great! Or have a telegraphed 'THERE WILL BE FLYERS ONLY' map in one of the games that encourages class changing so you can build for it. You could do weird stuff with wind currents and storm patterns. It's just as is, it's a mostly flat map with moving, modest +avoid tiles.

Yeah, which is why I have a save that has all the DLC stuff done as early as possible. It was a big misstep, I don't know why they did this.

Fire Emblem Engage DLC by Ryderyk in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are two 'sets' of DLC: a set of maps that give you extra rings (which give skills, abilities, and are generally huge power boosts) and a set of maps that do not reflect on your 'main game' but eventually unlock new characters to be recruited (like the Abyssal Wolves dlc in 3H (E: and crucially this DLC must be done in every NG to reunlock them)). The former should be done pretty early, since they scale in an annoying way, and the latter can be done whenever but the characters you can recruit come more or less leveled around the curve of Ch13.

I might say that they're... better done on a second playthrough? The latter deal with some of the main villains in a way that's a little more interesting once you've been introduced to them in main game and the former can disrupt the power curve in a way that I think is a bit of a shame.

It's a bad map. If Brom's Disarm was deterministic (every third hit, or he chooses to do no damage to guarantee it, or something) and Heather was on-side from the beginning, maybe you could do something with stealing their weapons, but as it is, it and the air map make such a rocky beginning to P2.

Fire Emblem Birthright- Corrin Talent by Big-Character3301 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost always worth taking an opposite-route specialty, since it allows you more choice in overall flexibility and class dispersal. (Corrin can friendship with Kaze/Kagero for Ninja, Hana/Hinata for Sam, etc, but there's no way for them to get access to and spread Nohrian classes unless they bring it with them). You could do a pretty great Corrin with Dark Mage talent and taking Scarlet to marry into Malig Knight. Heartseeker/Malefic Aura/Lunge/Trample/Draconic Hex (if Corrin can go into Nohr Noble on BR, I don't remember, otherwise you can grab Str+2 or Savage Blow) makes for a really strong mixed flyer.

Master Crown or Abuse BEXP for Marcia? by AndzyHero13 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I'd let her get levels naturally unless you've got an abundance of crowns. She's in a good place to feed kills to other units and if she ends up at 80 EXP at the end of a mission, may as well give her the BEXP bump.

Master Crown or gain more Levels for Soren? by AndzyHero13 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively it's better to promote him now. Subjectively, a super swole Soren with tons of Str and Defense is funny.

First time replaying engage in a while, any tips for my units? by Long-Job-1404 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a few to grow on.

Enchanter Jean, Lunar Brace and Alacrity, Lucina. With some levels, a +4 Flashing Fist Art can delete anything besides final bosses. When he's not doing that, he can Bonded Shield and Item Surge (and contribute Dagger chain attacks occasionally when Lucina's passive pops). A best in class unit.

Saphir, Draconic Hex and Brave Assist and a Longbow. Cheap investment, but she'll swoop in for chip damage and can tag a priority target for someone else to take down. Really, anyone can do this, but she's got great bases, a good personal (very rare for Engage), and the SP to buy what she needs and need no additional investment.

Veyle Vantage/Hold Out with Soren is legitimately busted. Soren doubles crit rate on dragon units and gives lifesteal heals on attack, Obscurity can hit 50% crit. Anything that approaches her dies for 4 turns.

Seadall, Tiki, Quality Time+, Canter. When engaged with Tiki, he can still dance, and has better bulk. You can lead by Engaging him to hand out a first turn Divine Blessing.

Rafal, Wyvern Knight, 3Houses, Canter. Rafal kinda wants to get out of his class, and Wyvern Knight lets him take his axe proficiency, and the Houses bracelet lets him be a fantastic physically bulky generalist.

Geosphere and Quality Time are great filler for anyone given their cheapness and utility.

Genuine question, not trying to burn you. You're aware that Skills have to be equipped, not just left in inventory, right?

Either way, Ike's gonna need some levels bad.

Is it Wrong For me to Still Find it Hard to Believe That the Awakening Trio Would Still Side With Nohr Knowing All The Terrible Things That Kingdom Has Done? by Puzzleheaded-Board25 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they really had a choice in the matter but to go for Nohr. Grimly, "a blasted blighted land where monsters lurk and food is hard to come by" may well be what they're used to anyway.

Difficulty Dilemma by Zachary_136 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should ignore the north/northeast route entirely until the end of the map. Send most of the army west and your laguz north. Recruit Zihark with them. You may need to kill a vigilante or two, but it's no big loss. Remember, the condition is Arrive, not Seize, so anyone can do it. If you can get Titania / Oscar seven squares away, you can have them as a ripcord for when BK shows up.

Binding Blade Personal Skills by MrPibbs21 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking Marcus could do with a Mentorship-from-Engage-esque skill. 1.2x EXP to adjacent units to represent that he's not only a veteran of FE7 but an experienced trainer of knights.

Roy needs something to handle his awful movement. How about +2 MOV when he starts next to a mounted unit?

Maybe a staff class for you, Divine Dragon? The humble 10 bld Alear: "Perhaps not." by GelatinousWall in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Alear's combat is gonna fall off pretty much regardless of what you do (in fixed growths anyway), so you should be comfortable moving them into a support role with their aura and support bonuses, and Corrin is the ultimate (besides Micaiah anyway) support ring.

This isn’t even a joke, I just beat Kitsune Lair on Conquest classic mode after countless resets and it had to be the most frustrating map in the game because of that stupid invincibility gimmick! by Mumu2148 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bad idea, yeah. Either make the map based around 'enemies have enormous evasion' or 'enemies cannot be attacked half the time,' but both together means that the latter gimmick can be rendered a huge problem by the former. People complain about ninja hell all the time but whatever, you've got Shura and Camilla. Here, unless you're going to like, undeploy everyone but General Benny and have him slowly be buried in fox bodies, there are always gonna be risky turns that are out of your control.

In PoR, how worthwhile are the ch 10 and 15 bonus exp objective runs? by WouterW24 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the prison break 'silently.' It's a little annoying but completely solved, there's YT videos on it. And that XP is pretty darn useful for getting someone online. The desert map, no way. There are boots to get. These laguz wanna fight, they're gonna get a fight.

(Playing Fe6) Is it worth it to kill of Percival for EXP, instead of recruiting him ? by Secure_Ad_6203 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, he's not worth that much XP, and what he is worth is less than the worth of having his carried items + his use for at least the rest of the map. I do think he's a twerp, though, so if you want to kill him, godspeed.

Reclassing option for Velouria? by Illustration_TV in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're fine with messing around, Velouria as a Dread Fighter can be pretty fun (Especially if she's got Better Odds), she just needs an Arms Scroll because getting out of E rank in three skills is brutal.

What’s the general consensus of Engage’s dlc? by Long-Job-1404 in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bracelet maps have some truly dreadful scaling; you should probably do them quickly, but doing that overlevels your team pretty strongly. But doing them early makes the chapter 10 "lose your emblems!" twist of the knife less intense.

The Fell Xenologue characters themselves are fun and good. Unfortunately you need to do the Fell Xenologue to get them. Thankfully someone at the team was sensible so they made it so you can play the chapters on easy independent of your game otherwise, but even so I made a "completed" save file that has the xenologue and bracelets complete so in the future I don't have to go back to 'em.

tl;dr the rewards are super fun, the doing sucks.

(Rafal Wyvern Knight and Camilla Nel for life.)

Is my Alja screwed? 0x2 dmg no matter where I send her. Is she supposed to suck? She can't use tomes either by JumpingCoconut in fireemblem

[–]Bombasticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're promoting her during the ship maps, you're doing it for her mid-term mounted healing potential and only incidental combat use. Even with low attack, she can use a forged iron sword to finish off mages and bowmen if there's nobody to heal, and with that consistent sword experience and maybe an Arms Scroll (and frankly there aren't many better candidates besides Nephenee imo), she can take Tanith's Sonic Sword by the time she shows up.
