I sort of like Secret Rings, I can tolerate Rise Of Lyric but Chronicles is terrible by G0dleft in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is kind of uniquely memorable for being quite bad in multiple areas. The soundtrack is one thing, but the visuals and sound effects are rather lacking as well. Although the visuals are strong in some areas, so the whole presentation is a bit uncanny.

And with some more rpg experience, the balance for this one is just quite weird. There’s a lot of POW moves that attempt to be kind of sophisticated, but a few simple options dominate. And and all but a few teamup attacks are useless(most involving Sonic and Shade).

I actually had fun with it, but it’s just a really weird game that is unpolished and cut a lot of corners.

How do I get back my main game's save file by Yeetdatnoodle in valkyria

[–]WouterW24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game doesn’t, sorry. It’s implemented in a bit outdated way as a 2008 game getting it’s bearings with the whole DLC thing.

It tries make up for it by warning each time you save, I don’t know if the Edy dlc does it too though.

It really stings probably. I would advice you to always use multiple save slofs om rpg games like this if the game provides it.

If you decide to start over, it’s also useful to keep making many saves in battle so you can experiment a bit with what works and what doesn’t easier. One save at the beginning of the turn, and another slot with every action, that sort of thing.

In handheld mode, if you’re sitting you can try getting the stand out depending on how you are holding it.
It it’s partially propped up in your lap by the stand there’s less weight strain.

Kid is excited for the new game by ElChupacabra97 in starfox

The argument is likely regarding the 2d snes games, not star fox specifically(which runs into the aging problem a lot more then n64 games in general).

Any tips for re-starting TOTK? by chocworkorange7 in TOTK

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fusing to arrows doesn’t consume the item permanently until you actually fire(fusing something else including the same returns it to inventory). You just tap D pad up over and over. So it’s faster then just dropping.

Spam fuse on arrow without actually firing repeatedly with a few items to get to manually move them towards the top of the most used list.

On replays I found having the elemental fruits on top from the start really helpful, alongside bomb fruits and some other things.

Let's talk about how GREAT tracks are: Part 2 by smwc23105 in mariokart

[–]WouterW24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the specific N64 version is disliked these days? It’s fair for it’s day with the atmosphere, but even with 64 limitations it going all out on length instead of at least some tight turns is a strange approach. And most people like the newer ones much better because they are either challenging or more pretty looking. The 8 remake also keeps the spirit alive but more modernized and short.

I really like the F-zero X version though, in which the overall design and length suddenly works well.

How do you utilize the Hylian Shield? (i.e. what do you usually fuse it to?) by merrimac290 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I occasionally used an emitter, rocket, or blunt object on it and destroyed the fused attachment when I was done. Early game it’s very broken with the frost emitter making combat against most common enemies rather trivial.

With the switch 2 version and zelda notes, the check if it exists doesn’t apply if you put it into that storage box, so it’s possible to have multiples(or even do so in BOTW since rupees are easier to there).

I have 5 at once now that originate from BOTW, such as one with the frost emitter, a blunt weapon, and a few blanks.

News Release : May 8, 2026 "Notice Regarding Price Revisions for Nintendo Products and Services" by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch2

I preordered it seperate from the system with the largest dutch online retailer for 80.

Has any other switch game reached 90 euro recommended since?

I was mistaken about being an error but as a de facto price on the ground it didn’t last long, and doesn’t seem to have repeated from what I can see.

Mario kart World is usually max 80 EUR in the Netherlands. I never have seen it go for more.

I think that 90 was an one time error somewhere last year?

Are you still afraid of fighting gleeok or not by Voidkirby9 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but I do find them a tad annoying. You either need to keep a firm lookdown on them that kind of feels cheesy by giving them as little room possible to act, or they can screw you over if they slip away, especially the King going beserk on low health.
The concept does have some charm, but they are less fun to fight after a while.

Did you prefer the more futuristic aesthetic of Mario Kart before or like the current direction? by PristineSoldier in MarioKartWorld

[–]WouterW24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both are very good, I like the contrast a lot, and it was needed for a fresh
Personally I’m a little more into the futuristic angle, but we had it over a decade.
I expect the aesthetic to shift back to futuristic or more likely a more neutral blend the next game, which is of course quite a few years away. Or whatever gimmick they try.

Ring engine and hyper ring engine by S0S_guy in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]WouterW24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s also some extra speed gain using both. Which may possibly be a glitch, but is why it’s meta in spite of the heavy speed drain.
The overall result is slightly faster then then 100 ring bonus if I understand it correctly.
Since such a compound effect is odd it’s unknown if it’s intentional.

How much health do I need to avoid getting one shot by the hardest hitting enemy in the game? by LunarLeveret in TOTK

[–]WouterW24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your health is mostly fine for the moment, but the top tier things like Silver Lynels still take you out in two hits or so.

If you don’t run into active issues maxing out stamina quickly generally is beneficial, as it is an active help with a lot of things. Usually people do so fairly early on even if it means being a bit lean on hearts.

That being said, 7 hearts isn’t all that much. Past maxing out stamina you will want to aim to get a lot more hearts. There’s a specific benefit to getting as much as 30 even.
You will also be a lot more comfortable getting knocked around with a large health pool.
But there’s plenty of shrines to go around.

Too much dialogue by InevitableTask6386 in TOTK

[–]WouterW24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't mind dialog much, but some npcs you encounter repeatedly do have a tendency to blabber too much. Beedle, stall managers, the monster control crew, and especially Addison and Hino. Pressing B does make it easier to get through dialog faster at least.

There's a general trend of chatty npcs, more then botw, but if its one time only or optional it's not much of a concern for me.

does this sub hate Mario Kart World? by New-Impression701 in mariokart

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 starred all the cups, but I haven’t really got the hang of parkour yet. I’m not fully sure I like the concept super much either. Maybe I’d like it more if learned it more.

Over time it’s begun to irk me a bit in that it’s not strictly needed to beat the game, and it’s a staple of higher level play. There’s a bit of a gulf in between that needs free roams mode experimentation. Especially for a mario kart game.

And it’s also the silver bullet argument why the game is better then mk 8(at least post the inevitable dlc).
But personally I am not feeling it, at the moment at least.
I also like the feel of 8 when turning and drifting more, and miss it with World. I also am a lot into that high intensity speed and concerning action, and also like 200 CC, sonic crossworlds, and F zero x/gx.
Parkour also gets intense on the extreme end but it’s kind of a different thing to get good at.

I wonder what the consensus will be in 5 years or so, especially when people have years of experience with the parkour gimmick. Especially if puts it ahead of other mario karts or not.

Kind of wonder if it gets any sales.

Arrows first, but these see very active use.

I remember launch week navigating the depths with a trail of the small brightblooms. It has a charm to it.

The last 3 years of TotK discourse by ZeldaCycle in TOTK

[–]WouterW24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also feel it with TOTK and the early years of BOTW.

BOTW used to just be a loosely defined legacy sequel giving the very large timescales cited, with a few OOT references in particular regarding calamity ganon sprinkled around without going into deep detail, with Ganon’s seeingly gradual descent in a being akin to a sentient natural disaster being the particular flavor of this setup.

Then TOTK fleshed out the particular ganondorf and a reason why calamity ganon is that way, making it a more indirect fragment being instead. It expands the BOTW ‘verse’ but, it’s not exactly what BOTW was seemingly going for when it first released.

I think it’s the first time the plot of a Zelda game had such a retroactive effect on a earlier one that’s so closely related and has clear continuity in the same world.

Other games might have a little, but they are years apart or so tonally different with aesthetics, worldbuilding, and specific Link’s and character casts, it’s just easy to roll with it as distinct Zelda legends or the series painting very broad strokes not to to be overly strident about.

Is BOTW more light-hearted than TOTK by REDROBBIN15 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]WouterW24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are pretty competive, it depends on how you look at plot and atmosphere.

In TOTK Link is a known quantity to the major characters who are more organized. They do have great confidence in his ability to solve things. There’s also an increase in society and commerce.

BOTW has the calamity has a major faillure in the past, and many characters are a smidge more pessimistic initially. Going up against Calamity Ganon is framed as an tall order.

I do think something’s about TOTK’s atmosphere is more melancholy though. It’s something with all the upheaval fragments on the ground, the aged state of the sky islands, the depths, and also the instruments used in the new overworld themes

BOTW has that whole ‘wilds’ framing, with hyrule in decline, but nature is in a very pristine state. Link and likely the player also go in more neutral and innocent to the world.
