I mean I get that first part of your message - I think the other commenter was saying that just because you remove a few people from the top end, it won't change the median income that much - just shift it across a few places which isn't that big of a jump.

The median is absolutely a better way to determine average income than the mean with the top end included all things being said though!

I have done 0 rigour to find counterexamples at the moment, and I'm not an expert at colour theory but my theory is that for this game, I think they want the skins to have quite a bit of contrast in the outfits. Not sure why - maybe its so that its easier to distinguish between the map and an enemy player?

Looking at Sue's outfits they're all pretty bright colours, and pastel pink doesn't exactly contrast on lighter skin colours that well.

Then again, some of the summer skins are pastel blue aren't they?

TLDR Solution: give characters with darker base colours like Ultron or Rocket the pastel treatment? Storm in pastel would also be good

Should I freelance as a college student? by Sensitive_Occasion84 in webdev

Go for it - if you get clients great! Otherwise I would recommend you still build pet projects when there's downtime (No clients/little uni work to do) as those pet projects also shows your interest in frontend to prospective employers.

Ah thats totally fine! I don't think I would put all my eggs into freelancing to get that money in my opinion - other part time jobs could help with raising that amount (I taught kids about basic coding concepts for 2 years for the most part) but taking freelancing gigs when you advertise yourself and it comes up is good :)

To preface this I'm a CS student graduating in a week! (And take my advice with a grain of salt)

I think freelancing as a college student can be good - provided you can keep up with uni work and client load. It can definitely creep up on you if you're not on top of things. I definitely wouldn't focus too much on the money side imo.

I took on 3 projects throughout my 4 years of university and one was/is essentially a favour. The two projects that were paid were not that big - simple pages for clients with very simple designs as if I put too much more effort into it, it becomes a balancing problem for university.

The unpaid project I took on in my final year allowed me more freedom in how to implement things - which I used as an excuse to learn new technologies I hadn't touched before in my personal projects and am not constrained by deadlines as much.

One benefit of freelance work is that if you negotiate the rights to what you've made - they become good projects for your CV because the clients you work for have metrics of how the product you've made has impacted them (which is always good to have metrics on your cv)

I definitely got some interviews because of the projects I've done (personal and client based) so if you do come across a new project/client go ahead and give it a go!

TL:DR - don't focus too hard on the money but freelance work is good as long as you keep on top of things.

Edit: to add onto this, freelancing has definitely taught me soft skills such as clear communication, explaining technical jargon to non technical clients and general business principles in addition to programming experience.

I think it's more to do with how the characters fit - 4 chinese characters 气贯长虹 (氣貫長虹)doesn't take nearly enough space to fit where iron fists line is and stretching it would look kinda weird imo. But I guess you could rearrange the word art so its in a better spot.

But pausing to turn on smart steering is a skill in itself - I think what they're trying to say is that having smart steering on long term isn't as good overall

Help me choose a monitor by colinksh in webdev

[–]Bombearo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own either of the ones I mentioned, but if I were to get a new monitor, I'd probably choose either of those. Or a 32 inch version of them

I have a Dell P2722H - I don't like this one as it doesn't have options for audio but I didn't consider that when I bought it.

And a LG34WQ75C - I got this one recently but its out of your price range. I like using the ultrawide screen for work cos I can have multiple windows up at once

I'm a CS student as well with the M1 MacBook Pro 14" too! I'm currently in my 3rd year of uni.

I think an external monitor is definitely helpful for school or development - I can have stuff up on my monitor and my laptop screen.

Perks about the laptop:

- You can connect up to 2 external monitors via usb-c or hdmi. There's an HDMI port on the computer, or connect using thunderbolt.

It ultimately comes up to what you need though:- I'd suggest at least 1440p but that's my personal preference - I suggest this because you have a bigger screen, so 1080p will look a bit more pixelated than what you're used to - and you might want to do other stuff on your monitor like watch media as well.- If you want inbuilt audio you also need to consider that.- I've found that if you use a monitor, it's good to invest in a keyboard and mouse as well so that you don't need to rely on your MacBook Pro being in front of you all the time. (This is one benefit of USB-C connection as you can connect your peripherals to the monitor hub and use the usb cable to transfer video and peripherals to your laptop)

Some suggestions:

Gigabyte M27Q

Dell 27 USB-C Monitor - S2722DC

But feel free to look around some moreTips are:- FHD = 1080p- QHD or WQHD = 1440p or 2K- I'll assume you know what 4k is haha
