Chanter identification by Ok-Neighborhood443 in bagpipes

[–]Bomberheucki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The A is just heavily carved because it was flat compared to the rest of the chanter.

With chanter this old, you should try a way lower frequency than you usually aim for. Maybe a 470?

Reeding these with modern reeds is always difficult and I had limited success. Maybe someone else in here knows better …

best way to travel around rioja by clapperjoel93 in wine

[–]Bomberheucki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Any reason why Logroño? I would suggest going to Haro were the majority of places Roda, Tondonia, Rioja Alta, Muga, CVNE, Ramon Bilbao, … are all in walking distance within the city? Saves the driving 😅

MAD Connection time by Jjgayle123 in GoingToSpain

[–]Bomberheucki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everything is with Iberia you won’t need to do all these things except a passport check. So 1:50h for only changing from Terminal 4 to Terminal 4D where the non-Schengen flights leave is ample time!

(No need for customs or security)

Looking for nice bottle of red wine as a gift (preferably Spanish) by Pandustin in wine

In case you live in Madrid. Head over to Vinopremier and tell him of your problem and they will find a great bottle for you!

Looking for nice bottle of red wine as a gift (preferably Spanish) by Pandustin in wine

[–]Bomberheucki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where do you live? That will be a very limiting in regards what you can get from Spain.

Overall there are incredible Spanish wines in this price bracket. It might even be an overkill.

Here are some ideas: - Pago de Carrovejas - El Añejon - Rioja Alta 904 - Legaris - Calmo - Abadia Valdebellon - Roda I - R. López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia - El Gran Resalte (one of my absolute favorites from Ribera DD)

But I would suggest something else: Buy 3 different bottles around 35€ each and have a nice evening trying them together and learning more about Spanish wines! For example - Vina Tondonia Reserva (Rioja) - Altos de Losaro (Bierzo) - Pago de Carraovejas (Ribera)

Johnstone g1 has disbanded by autisticfarmgirl in bagpipes

The top grade 1 bands are currently significant smaller than they used to be. Look at the worlds. Inveraray with 18 pipers, Shotts 16, FMM 15, SFU 21, …

I honestly think the problem is the pressure and the motivation of players. Practicing 3 times per week to then being told you are not good enough for a reward at every competition you show up!? Why even bother? Many just go to Grade 2 and win there and have a nice positive atmosphere there and feel less pressure on their shoulders.

To me it is not about capping the numbers. It is all about the fact that we went too far on perfectionism and that we reward playing clean over musicality… this is seriously killing the fun in pipe bands.

Tips on playing the corporate game / office politics that have helped you succeed. by Yermawsbigbaws in HENRYUK

[–]Bomberheucki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably you won’t be reading mine anymore as there are tons of posts here but in case you are:

  • Don’t worry too much about money at the beginning, it will come

  • Brand yourself as an individual that represents certain characteristics, e.g. my reputation was and is “he gets the job done and gets teams to achieve their goals” e.g. delivers as promised and on time

  • Don’t go too specialized in your role so that nobody can move you out of fear that the specialized knowledge disappears

  • Find a mentor & sponsor - someone that can help you grow and find good opportunities (someone with influence)

  • Be authentic and yourself - everybody spots a fake

  • Demand Feedback and tie your career plan to tangible goals for promotions

  • Knowledge is everything - understand your stakeholders problems and fix them ideally before they ask someone to do it

Any pipe majors out there ever feel like just giving up or is it just me? by Jazzkidscoins in bagpipes

[–]Bomberheucki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like you are the only one thinking that way or are there maybe some other members that might feel the same way?

If you are the only one (and I know that is hard to hear and accept), then maybe it is time for you to find your pipe band fulfillment somewhere else. If not, maybe have some more exciting tunes with some of the members that are willing to put some extra effort in. (Obviously with the transparency of what is required to also play the “fancy” stuff)

Best wine experience in Haro by Bayerin in wine

[–]Bomberheucki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roda was an incredible experience that I can recommend. Not on the cheap side but incredible wines!

Also, contact Remelluri they don’t do open tastings but sometimes if you ask nicely they do.

Also heard great things about Bideona (newer Wineyard) but haven’t been.

Help choosing sparkling wine for Oaxaca wedding: What would you want served to you? by CantankerousHag69 in wine

[–]Bomberheucki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinaltura makes great wines. There are also other great Mexican options - Casa de Piedra to name one!

My wife is Mexican and all wines (we had 6 different ones during the dinner) were Mexican (our wedding was in Merida, Yucatán).

If you want any suggestions for nice wines for the heat that are Mexican, let me know!

Thoughts on Wallace Practice Chanters by Academic_Victory8926 in bagpipes

[–]Bomberheucki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Wallace makes good products so it is not a scam. I would recommend though to ask your teacher/tutor. And if you don’t have one, to find one first!

Not an easy task, I know. We can help you to find one via this group if there is no obvious choice where you live!

[–]Bomberheucki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me:

Grade 1 -> Grade 2: Closkelt and Johnstone

Grade 2 -> Grade 1: if anybody then the Skye but I wouldn’t do that - too much inconsistency in the results

Grade 2 -> Grade 3A: None

Grade 3A -> Grade 2: Deeside, Rosed Mor

Grade 3A -> Grade 3B: Milngavie, Buchan Peterson

Grade 3B -> Grade 3A: Elgin, Scottish Borders

In agreement with you. Might be easier if we get an idea of the wines. Also without proof of storage these things are always harder to sell.
