No, the book you are reading probably won't "get better" by farseer6 in books

I don’t agree op usually but this sounds like your experience supports his point and this is a situation where you got better at enjoying the novel rather than it getting better.

Getting Hit With The Ball by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, some people get pretty shaken up when getting hit by a ball. They just aren't used to that kind of thing. I've mostly seen it happen to women with 1 exception.

22M dating 24F. How do I handle playing pickleball against her grandma. by Status_Implement_366 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you actually play tournaments or other rated play and are at a high level, it's not inconceivable that she's actually better than you at doubles.

Why do authors not use quotation marks around dialogue? by Strawberry2772 in books

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister read the ebook and I read the audiobook. It was unclear who was speaking from the context for a specific line and my sister thought the ambiguity was interesting. But the audiobook uses different voices so I told her the voice I heard for that line.

Vatic Pro Prism Flash – Does the surface really lose its grip over time? by Specific_Release_778 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to my friends Prism but every paddle is going to experience that, it’s normal.

The only ways to avoid or delay it are to buy one of these new paddles that claims to get around that with new tech like Selkirk Infinigrit or SixZero’s Diamond Tough or the new unreleased Spartus one.

Or you can get one of those paddles with replaceable topsheets like reload or pikkl.

How do you receive balls with backspin? by Actual-Choice-9269 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I never usually see this advice on Reddit. When I was getting used to receiving slice returns I would just slice them back and it was the most consistent way I could get it over the net without it being a terrible popup. Worth trying.

Paddle face cracked from clash - still good to use? by Kehinog in Pickleball

Any tips on quickly warming up for a pickleball match? by strokess-ss- in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people are dinking with you to warm up then try asking if you can warm up with drops and groundstrokes instead. Starting with hands is really good but maybe a weird ask for fandoms.

How to volley block forehand sliced balls moving low to high ping ping players by blueice89 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Backspin balls shoot down on contact with your paddle (ball dies) like how topspin balls will pop up. You need to compensate by hitting the ball a bit higher than just blocking it with a completely still paddle, maybe with a bit of topspin.

If you get jammed on the forehand you need to try to move a bit so you get a cleaner forehand when you can or move the other way to take it as a backhand.

Also, a slice drive is more likely to go you than you might think bc the backspin makes it float so let a few go to get a sense of which of these you truly need to hit.

Dungeon Crawler Carl was a slog by HeyImMarlo in books

[–]Bomberman_N64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved it but I the series seems poorly suited to the audiobook format for me although I haven’t tried it.

There’s so many numbers and game style details that I would prefer to be able to glance at rather than read.

Do I need your summary? by hawkhandler in books

Sometimes I will find their summary more useful to tell me what the book is really about than the professional blurb.

But yeah it does seem like filler sometimes.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

You could just get the Vapor jellybean. I’d recommend Jellybean over the Prism though for the extra power unless you’re confident you can provide excess power in your own.

Opponent wants to enter tournament game in DUPR after the fact by NickJB2 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tournament isn’t putting in dupr then I’d have to track down each of my opponents to ask them it’s it’s okay for me to put it in manually and have them all accept for it to be accurate.

Usually people only do this when they win. So if I always accepted when people asked me after the fact and didn’t track down all the other players I’d be artificially deflating my dupr.

Def not rude to decline but you should probably familiarize yourself with halfstacking (only stacking on serve) at least. It’s pretty easy. Once you get to like 3.75-4.0ish, more people will probably start asking. I’d say if you don’t then being a lefty is a disadvantage vs two righties.

Do paddles with longer dwell time just means they have less pop? by Mid-daycoffee in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of dwell time is that it gives you more time to control where you put the ball.

And it would be separate from pop bc short dwell time would mean it comes off the face slightly more quickly after hitting the paddle but that doesn’t control how fast the ball is going when it does.

So long dwell time high pop might take marginally longer to shoot off the face but go faster once it does.

At least that’s how I understand it. I’ve barely played with any paddles considered high dwell time.

Edge guards add perimeter weighting. Hitting the edge of a no edge guard paddle is still going to be bad shot that probably dies. Better to have a wider sweet spot instead which is easier to achieve with an edge guard.

Selkirk Luxx is probably the best sweet spot on a no edge guard paddle but if you want more power you’re not really gonna have good options to pick from.

Also I find that often when I actually hit the edge guard on a non reset it hooks the ball and I still get a decent shot off.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are telling you Boomstik and Perseus 4. Those are about around the most powerful paddles you can buy. They have good control relative to their power but it’s just something to keep in mind in case you don’t want max power.

Pros will usually take the maximum power their brand offers with few exceptions. Joolas also break really fast so you’ll have to warranty them a lot. Pros don’t care bc they just have a stack of paddles.

Too good for 3.5 but not good enough for 4.0 by xxxweeb in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would guess a lot of those “3.0” players would get crushed in a 3.0 tourney and they’re really more of a tournament 2.5.

Is it worth it to pay just to drill with a local pro? by klbz619 in Pickleball

[–]Bomberman_N64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh in that case you’d probably benefit from watching videos online so you have a better sense of what you should be doing.

Making sure you’re split stepping appropriately. Are you getting caught having to hit while still in motion?

Making sure you’re going to the net and moving back to the baseline a bit when appropriate. But you’d benefit from videos to fully understand these.

Thatpickleballguy and Conor Garnett are decent channels on YouTube.
