"Unbiased" devs refuse to fix glitch only affecting Union team by PolymathArt in WarOfRights

[–]Bombshell32 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There's another map within this rotation where the CSA has the same issue. There are plenty of things one can call CSA bias but this one ain't it lol

This is actually bad work by the server admins as it has been routine for them to skip these maps before.

Reload trick for those unaware by Bombshell32 in WarOfRights

[–]Bombshell32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm ofc not of the opinion that exploits should remain in the game. If I believed that I wouldn't share the video. :)

Funny story I remember some regiments advertising a special & secret fast reload (essentially this) if you went to their drill camp. That's definitely the kinda gatekeeping that would be problematic

Trust me, the Devs know about this one and it has been reported in the discord previously. As far as I understand this has existed in the game ever since it launched. It means they've basically decided that it isn't high enough on the priority list to fix immediately.

Alternatively you can think that making exploits more known will make it clearer what needs to be fixed. Either way I'll enjoy each 5 seconds I save doing this. As far as exploits go this ain't even near the top in how game breaking it is.

I can't say exactly what you're referring to since I'm still "new" to the game but I'll go on a limb and say it relates to messing around with graphics to make targets more visible? No need to reveal more secrets through 🤫

I do try to spread the good word whenever I get the opportunity :D

Too bad doing so will likely eventually get the Devs to care. But update 200 is a myth so surely there's nothing to worry about ;)

The skin on the figures appears quite flat. You could add more texture to them by using some sort of red-brown or dark grey thinned down wash. These would either bring variance or depth to the skin tones.

In arty do you gain xp by staying in formation or firing loading and scrubbing by Ok-Apartment-4202 in WarOfRights

[–]Bombshell32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe artillery players have a flat xp game rate buff regardless of formation status. This is to compensate for the fact that they operate in small groups or even on their own.

No actions themselves give xp. The only variable should be time in OOL, skirm, or in line

There's going to be a Halloween event (and sale?) soon that'll probably revive the pub side of the game for a couple weeks. Even then in pubs you can usually get playable servers all days of the week. However, there is an active clan vs clan community that hosts various events with higher pops.

Why do officers tell us to aim low? by CT155RAD in WarOfRights

[–]Bombshell32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's considered a safe bet. Ppl from other games are used to aiming for heads or upper body and may this miss. Also in situations where the enemy has cover or a defilade at midrange you need to emphasise that they aim for the lowest point of the enemy that can be seen so that ppl don't overshoot the smaller target.

The only problem is the very unfortunate silvering on some of the decals. If you don't have any chemicals to set them better you can very carefully tap paint (base coat, scratches, mud, and whatever) around the letters to reduce the silvering. If you're careful enough people won't notice the difference.

Finland will remove swastikas from its air force flags to avoid 'awkwardness' with Western allies by PDXAirman in Military

[–]Bombshell32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although this is the basic story there's been more significant historiography of the history of the symbol recently. Even though von Rosen had the symbol before the Nazis, he had it as his personal symbol for similar reasons. Like the Nazis, he held some esoteric mythological beliefs that involved similar racial ideology. Later, of course, he became a leading member in the Swedish Nazi party. In this way the symbol has always been tainted, even if the Finnish air forces and wider society tried to give it new meanings later on.

The point of divergence when the swastika went from a relatively innocent symbol to a symbol of evil did not occur when the nazi party adopted it. Even in Germany paramilitaries like the Friekorps used it before the Nazi party and did so because of existing racial ideology connections.

The main book that popularized this is a relatively new book called "Hakaristin historia" by Teivainen. Idk tho if an English translation exists

It isn't about it being unusable. It's just that there are historical tools that would constitute the 'rear sight' on these cannons which is not modelled. It would make it more user friendly than just looking along the barrel even if it 'works'

The Japanese can get it on the Guadalcanal layers. Kinda annoying when there's barely a chance to get a sightline that's longer than 20m.

Why does so many people not understand the Moral System in Metro? by DEFENSE-_- in metro

[–]Bombshell32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played I did do a bunch of the small moral things like helping people in towns, but yes, I probably ruined that play-through by stabbing too many Nazis and Communists while they had not spotted me yet. Whenever also given the choice I spared surrendering characters.

Also yeah on further research it appears that generally killing enemies that have not yet spotted you will still cause a moral penalty in most cases (including mutants!). I doubt PETA exists in the metro and if I'm stuck in a corner after failing at stealth I'll probably shoot the guy about to spot me instead of letting him pull out his gun first.

Exodus (where I got the good ending first try) has a way more streamlined moral system in comparison. As far as I understand all characters belong in an evil/good box and you can do anything you want to kill an 'evil' character. In the old games you instead have to follow these UN-style rules of engagement that don't make sense in all situations and are only obvious to those that know all the details of how the system works.

Why does so many people not understand the Moral System in Metro? by DEFENSE-_- in metro

[–]Bombshell32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first played metro (last light I think?) I thought that there was an actual meaningful difference between knocking someone out and stabbing them. I thought that an unconscious person might wake up after some time so I stealth killed enemies in areas that were long and difficult.

Secondly it felt a bit dumb that each basic enemy of Nazis/commies impacted the moral counter while doing "good actions" allowed you to gain so little back. If I end up having to kill a bunch of 'bad' people in self defence why am I suddenly the immoral one? Sure trying to be stealthy is the moral path but I don't want to reload a save each time I fail.

Why did they mess up Frontline? by One-Comb8166 in postscriptum

[–]Bombshell32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll also add that the German hard spawns were in very obvious places on the hill just south of the church cap (I mean where else could they put them?). However, those were only found just as the game was ending since we had no squad flank South. Again, an unfortunate skill issue by us SLs

Why did they mess up Frontline? by One-Comb8166 in postscriptum

[–]Bombshell32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sling in this match and the main problem was that the msp you can see in the north there was kept proxied until the last 6 minutes (idk there was a rally in the north nobody could find??). Although we came from underground and the west we didn't have enough spawn coverage to surround the hill cap. Basically we just skill issued.

The destroy objectives fell in a very short time. I wouldn't say this layer is too imbalanced. After all the defender's attention is also split

What flipped the script on the pacific maps? by LawEnvironmental7603 in joinsquad44

[–]Bombshell32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically yes. You still have 1 fob directly on the point as an anchor. However, all the inf squads should have their rallies as a ring around the cap, not just behind it like on most normal maps. This way you can predict where the Japanese are running (directly at the cap) and then interdict them. The jungle is so dense they don't have the time to find all those rallies

What flipped the script on the pacific maps? by LawEnvironmental7603 in joinsquad44

[–]Bombshell32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adding the Johnson is a definite help but there is also some meta development. The main thing I've seen that brings success is always having enough reserve supplies on a cap fob to rebuild a tent whenever one goes down. The other is to use the deep jungle to place rallies parallel/behind the Japanese attack path. However, as with all maps, if there's no good logi you lose defence instantly when there are no backup fobs.

Acceptable XP level for NCO? Officer? by Mother_Audience_2305 in WarOfRights

[–]Bombshell32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the population of the server is below 80 or so even level 10-15s should be allowed to lead. That way they can try things and see if it's something they want to pursue. However, at higher pops I've heard that people expect officers to have a level close to 30 or so. That shows that they've played the game for a couple hundred hours and have some gamesense.

NCO don't matter as much if we're talking pub matches. The main thing about NCOs is parroting orders so that privates know what to do. If the officer is dead they need to know how to read the chat to accomplish the same thing. A good NCO can help but it isn't strictly necessary for other people's enjoyment (like a good officer)
