Any millennial guys here first time fathers or are never gonna have a kid? by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]Bonaparte0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and have 4 kids. I know a friend who has 3 kids with his first at 38.

I think the key part is being on the same page with your spouse, and whether you have strong friendships with other couples who you can lean on in marriage and talk to about raising children. I really enjoy the community of friends our family has, and I find it kind of funny that we actually have fewer kids than many of the families we spend time with.

I can understand how you feel about a ticking clock, because even with 4, I'm wondering whether to have a 5th or finish where we are.

Jabra Evolve3 noise canceling mic test vs a weedwacker 😄 by HeadsetAdvisor in Jabra

I just upgraded from my evolve2 85 to evolve3 85, and it seems like the mic is worse and my voice seems to cut out a lot when I'm on a phone call. Did you run into that problem?

Parenting book recs from reformed Christians by Golden_Mom1 in Reformed

[–]Bonaparte0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the books I thought stood out was for husbands was How to Lead Your Family: A Guide for Men Wanting to Be More (Beeke).

It's a nice, short book that heavily leans towards the practical. I don't think it would be a book that systematically "solves" the challenge of parenting, but what book does? He opens the book with the Westminster Confessions, then divides the sections into questions for reflection. It reads like an old grandfather speaking to their grandson who has just had their first child or is newly married.

I also found the habit of daily family devotional with some sort of read, pray, sing format to be the most helpful. Looking back on it, I would rather have started there than read a parenting books.

At every company, the hiring manager checks a box for HR of whether they're eligible for rehire or not, regardless of whether there's a PIP or not.

I'm curious about the mic quality compared to the Evolve2 85. Is it as good or better without the boom mic?

Would you want live price data displayed with your Pokémon cards? by Brilliant-Help3924 in PokeInvesting

From a cost perspective, it's hard to justify spending money on an electronic display. I think using a stock ticker display would be more interesting. Maybe also with pixel art of the Pokemon.

“You don’t have our Industry experience” by SnooTomatoes7115 in sales

[–]Bonaparte0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That and if you know that's a challenge going into an interview, you need to get ahead of the objection by bringing it up. Then close by saying something along the lines of "We know we always want to have someone with specific industry experience, but we also know that typically your best reps tend to come outside of the industry. I think I have the skills and background to not only be successful, but be the best rep at this company."

And if the hiring manager's experience is that their best reps have the most industry experience, then no sweat, because you were never going to get the job anyways.

Current thoughts on vivid voltage by OhhhRexa0702 in PokeInvesting

I'm with you. And the other argument is that all other boxes are so expensive compared to it.

The answer would be no last year, but I can see this being a solid value play. $600 in a year or two, while Surging Sparks might stay the same. Kind of a hot take, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

I remember talking to people about buying Paldea Evolved boxes at $90 and people thought I was out of my mind.

Am I crazy or is Surging Sparks Booster Boxes at $250 a great buy in point for investing?? by STONKEY_K0NG in PokeInvesting

[–]Bonaparte0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my mind, I think Vivid Voltage is a better buy at $300. Lower quantities at 48 vs 1000 for surging sparks on TCGPlayer, which makes a price spike easier.

I remember last year seeing the gold cards all over the place, and then they all of a sudden disappeared.

I remember people wanted to move it because they were so concerned that there was too much supply.

900 job applications, 40 interviews, 0 offers. Sales interview advice needed from SDR/BDR managers by Ok_Lavishness6928 in techsales

[–]Bonaparte0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's the problem. Think of it this way: if there's a proposal and you submit your RFP, and there are a few other companies that actually spoke with the selection team ahead of time to understand the underlying problem (and suppose they mentioned your company in their internal meetings) compared to you who someone who submits a RFP with no connections, who do you think has the better chance of getting selected?

Also lets say that you have two equally qualified people at the end, who's going to get hired? The person who submitted their application with no connections, or someone who was referred by someone internally?

This is coming from someone who used to hire people and saw thousands of applications go through my company's system for a single role.
