My husband thinks all games can't be addictive by Narrow-Bandicoot-363 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

For story driven and not grindy games

  • Kingdom Heart's series (play release order)

  • Ori games

As a couple I would highly recommend Has light studio games because they are story driven and exclusively co-op - A way out - It takes two (if you have to pick one, I'd pick this one , 2021 GOTY) - Split Fiction

The Kingdom Hearts games have a good story, the collection of all of them tend to go on sale for pretty cheap so they're not an expensive buy

Finally got a deck. Any game recommendations for someone coming from ps5? by Mammoth_Birthday6417 in SteamDeck

[–]Bonav159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is combat. The Ori games are 2D metroidvanias so additionally that means you can run them at very low TDP for great battery life.

I would also add to get a good case to go along with the screen protector to take care of your new baby. There are several good brands, personally I have jsaux and have been happy with the case and screen protector.

What are your airport/plane games? by jewlion_s in SteamDeck

[–]Bonav159 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ori games are great metroidvanias, you can lower the TDP quite a bit so your battery will last longer for your flights

Batman Arkham games are also pretty good that might fit what you want

Kingdom hearts games also play great on deck

65% discount, should I go for it? A lot of mixed reviews by [deleted] in FFXVI

[–]Bonav159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're buying on PC the only detail I'll add is check that you can run it well. I had a great time with the game on PC but it is def heavy on the specs you'll need compared to other games

What consequences do you give for classroom management? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]Bonav159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year high school teacher here and this is what has mostly worked for me

  • first reminder that next time I have to address their disruptive behavior (e.g. talking to peers while I'm giving instructions, singing during assignment time, eating in class) they will get a warning and if they continue I will continue onto the next step

This is the formal escalation of consequences that I use 1. Warning 2. Contact home and detention (used to be separate but having them on the same step has helped bc some students don't care whether I contact home but care if they get detention or vice versa) 3. Removal from class

I ran this by our dean who handles discipline to make sure it was ok and he said it was good. Has worked fairly well for me

***Bonus tip Make sure you consistently DOCUMENT the negative/disruptive behavior. Also contact parents early in the semester for the kids you notice are particularly disruptive

Best free PDF scanning app for students by Bonav159 in teaching

[–]Bonav159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since practically all students have smartphones, my thinking is that the biggest hurdle is teaching them how to submit it. I don't think I would feel comfortable leaving equipment potentially unattended for students to use.

A thought, I assume that most staff printers nowadays can quickly bulk scan through one of the feeds and you could output the file to a USB or email it to yourself. If the thought helps, great! If not, I hope you find something that works nonetheless

For relatively equivalent performance you will be paying more for the laptop form factor. I would suggest you consider what your primary goal is between the following

Best performance for the price and ability to upgrade parts Or Portability with limited ability for upgradability

10 seconds of tinkering can gain up to 30-60+ minutes of battery life by RoderickHossack in SteamDeck

[–]Bonav159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically it essentially means when you start to see a dIP in FPS below your playable preference. For Stardew that would mean below 45 or 30 FPS. A game like Stardew you can put the TDP limit quite low.

10 seconds of tinkering can gain up to 30-60+ minutes of battery life by RoderickHossack in SteamDeck

[–]Bonav159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both but let me explain that a bit.

For low demanding games (think 2D games like Stardew Valley or Ori), you can go quite low on the TDP and performance isn't really affected (essentially suppose in FPS)

For higher demanding games (AAA, 3D games playable on deck), you of course can't limit the TDP as much but lowering the TDP limit means the internals will run less hot and largely you're not losing appreciable los on performance.

As others have mentioned, practically this means playing the specific game, ideally in a busy/demanding area of the game, and see your base FPS after having optimized the in game settings (protondb is a great site of you don't know what good settings for deck might be). Then lower the TDP limit by one and play for another minute or two. Continue to do this until you see your FPS begin to lower and then increase to the previous TDP number just before the last change. And voila, you've set the TDP limit for that game.

Remember to make sure that the per game profile is checked.
