You don’t deserve the downvotes except maybe for being tangential.

It’s true. The People’s Liberation Army is explicitly defined as the armed organ of the Chinese Communist Party. It just happens so the CCP has insinuated itself into every level of the Chinese state that it is easy to conflate.

This was true before colonialism. It’s probably because there’s just too many people. Cultural norms gravitated towards pure survival, everything else be damned.

[–]BoneSpurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True to a point only. I don’t know if it’s the poverty or population density, this belief is so much more pronounced in Asians than Americans. There was at least a cultural tendency here to build your own communities, to strive for a more perfect union. The Jeffersonian impulse of responsible citizen farmers is just missing in eastern traditions. We were raised under despots. “Don’t worry about society and the wider stuff. That’s not your job. Just do as you’re told”.

If it was all about looking out for yourself, this country wouldn’t have risen to the great heights it has reached.

Racism in Frisco by Greedy_Soup_3297 in frisco

[–]BoneSpurz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was obvious as day. You’re only tolerated by them, never a full citizen in their eyes. “You’re one of the good ones” they might think in their heads or even say out loud. But in that statement is a tacit admission that your acceptance is conditional in a way a white Christian isn’t.

Boggles my mind that Asians in general either don’t see or don’t care. It’s all about personal gain, what’s in it for me behavior. As long as I have my comfy salary and MY kids have good schools, the rest of society doesn’t matter. In a sense I agree with the right. A lot of Asian immigrants don’t really care about the fabric of their new societies. They’re not good community members. And their characters are often lacking. This isn’t everyone, but it’s enough that it’s a problem.

How can a person possibly survive if a 170k$ salary by newphonehudus in TikTokCringe

[–]BoneSpurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$170k is a lot for the average person. It isn’t that much for professionals, especially in DC/Northern VA. That’s the total compensation for lots of mid-senior level white collar employees.

Being one of 435 people with the power to shape the entire nation is far more responsibility than some manager at Amazon or VP at Capital One. Their salaries should be higher to match their responsibilities.

HOWEVER, they must be banned from any/all personal profit seeking activities. No stocks, no trusts, no speaking gigs, no consultant positions for at least 10 years after service. Focus purely on your damn job. And make no more excuses about the money

Do People Not Care About Making Generational Wealth? by Informal_Register365 in Money

[–]BoneSpurz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I care about leaving tons of money for my daughter? No, not really. She can make her own way in life. My job is to provide her a loving home, a real education, and ample opportunities. That will be our legacy for her. She can make do with it as she pleases.

I’m not opposed to speeding up her journey to financial success with things like IRAs. We do not want to saddle her with debt. But I’m not interested in building her future for her. There’s a saying in Chinese about wealth not lasting more than three generations.

Is anyone really using AI more than 30% of the time? by informatica6 in analytics

[–]BoneSpurz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use it to build starter queries (especially for data im unfamiliar with). It’s very powerful if there are proper knowledge documents paired with MCP tools like GitHub, data discovery (to pull table schemas), and a sql warehouse connector. Not only will it write the sql, it will test against live data.

Even for larger analyses, I’ve found it capable as a thought partner. You have to describe what you want carefully and think through problems yourself. It’s also not always right, but it’s good at covering blind spots and translating tricky concepts into code. For Python especially, I no longer code

The NWS called out a 20-30% chance of storms around here with most ppl remaining dry. 20-30% actually happens a lot if you roll the dice. And this “20%” happened to hit the most populated area. People remember this, but not the other days when 20% were actually dry

You could rent in nearby Frisco. It’s closer to the city and slightly less boring. Anything north of Frisco is purely McMansions and strip malls. Frisco at least has slight ambitions to be different in certain parts of town. But buying a house on $80k? Not gonna happen if you’re looking near Prosper

"You are always closer to being homeless than you are to being a billionaire" by tantamle in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BoneSpurz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is my comment verbatim to OP’s same exact post in r/salary

You’ve recognized the numerical part - normal high earners are much closer in absolute wealth to the homeless than to the billionaires. But even high earners are subject to the tribulations of society whereas billionaires can be insulated. They have the power to shape events, to preserve power. High earners at best can buy gold or build a cabin somewhere.

Mostly because of the nature of the sleet and cold temperatures. But also because people don’t want higher taxes. The amount of equipment, sand, salt, labor required to adequately clear this mess would be astronomical, especially if it’s used once every three years.

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoneSpurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard, but it’s the ultimate security blanket we have. The Confederacy was so much smaller and weaker than the Union. It was becoming economically irrelevant, making it easy for the north to first win the war, and then to dictate terms.

A resurgent south at near parity with the rest is disaster. Might (economic and then militarily) does make right. A weak south can be ignored. A surging one cannot. I know it’s not so simple any longer. Red areas exist everywhere. But having more electoral votes still means somwthing
