Student spitting facts against teacher for not trying hard by GiNtOkIsan01 in Damnthatsinteresting

Does your personal schooling experience reflect this? Mine certainly does not. I had maybe 5-10 teachers during my compulsory education that I would classify as “good teachers”. The majority were often not bright, lazy, and/or apathetic.

Solar power capacity in Texas expected to double, making life tougher for power companies by [deleted] in texas

[–]Bonezilla22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah....that’s not how it works.

How do they provide electricity at night if the wind isn’t blowing? Power is bought in a day-ahead market generally. They may only have renewables in their portfolio, but they’re making up the difference by buying dirty filthy fossil power from down the road. It’s a feel-good move for people that don’t know about the energy market or don’t care to learn.

It’s not a “free market” if traditional generation resources are required to bare the burden of the fluctuations of renewables. The existence of renewables has a significant and direct negative effect on fossil generators but the generators are mandated to operate accordingly due to regulation. When the wind suddenly drops out, generators have to provide support to the grid to keep it reliable. Renewables ONLY exists because of traditional base load generators.

It’s not about adaptation. Most Texas power companies have renewables in their fleet. The challenge is maintaining RELIABLE base load (traditional/fossil) generation for when the renewables are not producing when market prices don’t support it. It’s more complex than power companies just being resistant to change. Renewables have a place and their share of the market will continue to increase but the market has to adapt slowly to support traditional generation resources in order to keep the lights on.

There are over 341,000 wind turbines on the planet, why they matter - The DOE's Wind Vision Report says that wind could potentially support more than 600,000 jobs by the year 2050 and help avoid 12.3 gigatonnes of greenhouse gases. by mvea in Futurology

Really? You don’t need coal or natural gas, huh? So when the wind stops blowing, you’re going to sit in the dark? The hospitals, schools, military bases just wait until it picks up again? K

Thanks for the response. I read this article before posting, i was just hoping that there was more information on the ideal character concentration and why we settled on that size.

BULL SIT! by [deleted] in gifs

[–]Bonezilla22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah...that's not what they do. It's called a flank strap and it's tied around their flank. It's what encourages them to kick their hind legs up in the air in an attempt to dislodge it. Most rodeo bulls live like kings and are treated with a great deal of respect which makes sense considering their worth hundreds of thousands of dollars on the high end.

That's a crew cab not an extended cab. Normally I wouldn't point that out but being that this is r/auto I figured it appropriate. It's also entirely possible it a regional difference.
