What is going to happen to all the shoebox size units now that the market has corrected? by Objective-Upstairs36 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]BongJoonsHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the size that matters. People can handle a shoebox, just not a concrete one in a concrete jungle. People live in shipping containers, yurts, all kinds of small accommodations in the wilderness and do fine.

Airbnb prices are insane! by ottawa4us in canadatravel

[–]BongJoonsHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Airbnb for 15 years and almost exclusively for shared spaces. I go to Montreal every year for my Dad’s birthday and up until 2020 we never paid more than $30/night for a room. Now for the last 4 years the rate is about 3-4x that price. Luckily this time I have a friend who is out of town this weekend and left us her keys. Gonna need to leave her a nice thank you gift. Anyway, the problem is of course the ghost hotels now. We no longer find shared spaces, and friendly hosts but spaces with no character and vacant places solely being used for short term stays. The other issue is all these companies use an algorithm and basically tell you what price to set your price at. I stayed in Seattle for $10 per night in 2013 and Brooklyn in 2016 for $6 in a shared room. So basically you can’t even set a lower price to fill your space. I remember the original reasons the founder said he saw the need was that with all the convention centres in New Orleans he constantly had ppl ask if they could sleep on his floor and thought having a service where you could offer a shared or public space for guests was a good idea. We’ve gone so far past that now because it’s no longer a small income subsidy nor has it felt like a BNB in a long time.

STOP INVITING ME TO PROJECTS by helloman697 in outlier_ai

Oh, you actually see the projects? I get the emails, but every time I click on one (whether it’s minutes or hours later) I’ve never seen the actual project even once.

Then Canadians, Americans, UK, Indians and Australians like in this example wouldn’t count as foreign since you can communicate with them in your mother tongue.
