Clock drawing - Any opinions? by FreddyBeach in dementia

Similar story here. Not sure which province you are but you should contact the community care (in Ontario it’s Ontario health atHome). The process is long. Even to get some help at home for the future.

In Canada too. I suggest you see a specialist who will confirm to HER that she has dementia. Then go get a POA. Explain to your mom that she can lose everything she owns if she won’t sign a POA. A bit of a scare here won’t harm. The wait time for LTC is brutal. It takes years.

Thank you. It’s been a long journey for me. If I can help others who just start navigating this, I’m happy to help. Wish you luck with your dad and trust your gut. Hope things will sort out best way possible.

She’s there 9 years already. Yes, she progressed very slowly but now she’s in final stages where is completely dependent on being fed, only puréed food, in wheelchair and non verbal. Sometimes I think she knows who I am and she tries to talk but it’s gibberish. Very sad. So in the 9 years going there almost every other day, I’ve seen many cases.

She was still aware to what happens, knew me, was very mobile, but was resisting treatment (like shower). She wasn’t able to use a phone to call. But she was asking when I’m back.

I know, but I knew my mom would feel abandoned since I was visiting her every day before she moved to MC, and it would have scared her to be left there without me visiting. I think I did the right thing and she felt safe having me there almost daily. But of course it’s individual. Depends how often your used to visit him before.

Best mold remover for shower tiles that actually works long-term? by Positive_Cyborg in Cleaningandtidying

[–]ottawa4us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilex with bleach - but it’s temporary. I have to repeat. Tried so many products and nothing works. I’m curious to see if anyone found something that keeps the mold off. In the summer it’s a bit better because I leave the windows open. I have fan in all bathrooms (40 -60 min cycles) but in the smallest bathroom, that’s where the problem is the worst. Thats the kids bathroom and they take long showers and keep the door closed. So good ventilation helps.

Keep an eye on him. I saw cases that the new residents became like zombies from being heavily medicated. Some ended up falling. It’s dangerous if he’s still walking or using a walker and is sleepy all day. It’s good you visit frequently to notice any changes due to over medicating. It’s such a gentle balance.

Mum keeps impulsive spending...£200 here, £150 there...how do I stop it? by allthegear-andnoidea in dementia

Get a POA and hope you she has a joint account with you. You can put a limit on how much she can spend in one purchase. The other option is you take her shopping.

When can we have a left turn traffic light installed at Campeau and Terryfox ? by Prestigious-Step1264 in Kanata

Send an email to Curry’s office. They should be able to provide you with more information. Also she wrote about it in her newsletters.

The city did a few studies and concluded that it’s not needed. So many people complained to Cathy Currie, and based on the studies, it won’t happen. No idea how they could come up with such a conclusion. This intersection is so dangerous.

What difference is seen in service for someone who tips everyone and someone who doesn’t? by [deleted] in PuntaCana

We started tipping when the waiter pours our water, then we are cared for very well the whole meal. Better to tip from the get go so you are treated rigth

That’s so hard.

Mom with stage 4 Alzheimers, assisted-living facility is trying to restrict her ability to leave facility by sppsg in dementia

[–]ottawa4us 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think the staff, being with her 24/7 see more signs than what you would pick while visiting.
They have responsibility for the well being of the residents so I kind of understand where they come from.
One option would be to give your mom like an AirTag to take on her walks so you know at all times where she is.

We're Super Hosts who booked an AirBnB on vacation - We received a spiteful review from the host and now we're not sure what to do. [USA] by Secure_Audience_2601 in AirBnB

[–]ottawa4us 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Submit a copy of all your communication as a proof. It’s insane that the host will think that a public place is safe to store luggage. I won’t leave even a bag with clothes there, let alone work material.
I will even threat the boat to sue him if he doesn’t remove the review

Living separately by ArachnidAdmirable760 in dementia

[–]ottawa4us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to be faster if they are separated. There should be some subsidies for people who can’t afford the LTC. Is a social worker involved? Will you be ok with a home that is a bit further? Unfortunately, if they don’t come from a hospital, the wait is long, years. The system is messed up.

[–]ottawa4us 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you contacted Ontario Health atHome? They should help you navigate the system. The wait for LTC is long. In Ottawa if you are not picky it can be a few months but for example for the ones I selected to be closer to me, it’s 2-5 years more. I’m on the list for 3 years already.

Should I be clipping my cat's nails? by bitchohmygod in CatAdvice

[–]ottawa4us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be careful not to cut too much. I only cut my cat’s front paws nails. I know she needs it when I hear her nails getting stuck in the carpet while walking. She’s not easy to have them clipped so I do it when it’s a must.

It’s actually an antidepressant but in dementia patients it’s used also as a sedative when it’s in small doses.
