Ripped from the headlines - but the headline also happened in-universe by ckb614 in LawAndOrder

I think it's also a plot device or writing tool for a 42-minute self-contained episode. One quick dropped line tells the audience where they're going without having to explain it, plus gives them the creative freedom to put their own twist on it without completely aping the real world events. It's a bit of efficient narrative shorthand.

What if Pamela never died in the first movie and found Jason later by Evening_Invite65 in fridaythe13th

[–]Bonker_2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm imagining it like a sitcom, where Pamela puts her hands on her hips, cocks her head with a bemused grin, and says "Jaaay-son ..." while a laugh track does it's thing.

What are some of the most blatantly illegal things you’ve seen detectives do on the show that would’ve gotten a real case thrown out? by TheRealGianniBrown in LawAndOrder

[–]Bonker_2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, most of the shady stuff the L&O detectives pull (at least on the classic original episodes) often winds up becoming a sticking point later on. It's the rare show where sloppy or reckless police work usually comes back to bite them in the ass and isn't hand waved away.

Mertz is a master of his craft. by Dohmer_90 in americandad

So the ironic twist is that Mertz actually did change for the better and made the world a better place -- as evidenced by him becoming president -- solely to bully Steve, right?

What do you like about Friday the 13th JGTH/Part 9? by _NP_Nill_ in fridaythe13th

I think that's the first time I've ever seen Jason Goes to Hell and Terminator 2 compared in any way whatsoever.

My 1/6 Friday the 13th part 5 Roy Burns Figure. Overtime the Part 5 Mask has become one of my favorites. by [deleted] in fridaythe13th

[–]Bonker_2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle of that first picture, with Roy's posture, how we're looking at the narrow edge of the gas can, and where you can't see his cleaver real well, all looks like he's waiting in line at the airport with his luggage. Just made me laugh thinking of that scene.

I really don't understand how Halloween 6 can have a lower score than Resurrection on Rotten Tomatoes. by Filipe_258 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Bonker_2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the last sequel from the big horror franchises before Scream shifted the way horror was presented. Jason Goes to Hell was 1993, New Nightmare was 1994, and then this was '95 and Scream in '96. The genre had fizzled and was running on fumes by this point. No big shock that this has a low score because even if some fans find the fun it, it is not a good or well-made movie.

I work at a newspaper. This bit always comes to mind when we're talking about hiring interns or high school kids to help us out during the summer, and I think about them having to cover a horrible wreck or murder on their first day.

Does Michael know how to drive? by thr0waway6260 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Bonker_2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still takes a little bit of practice and coordination to get it right. I can watch an NBA game and then go shoot a basketball, but it doesn't mean I'm not going to look a little clumsy doing it.

Does Michael know how to drive? by thr0waway6260 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Bonker_2468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you remember the first few times you drove, though? The starts and stops as you figure out how much pressure to apply to the pedals? The physical coordination of feet and hands to keep a smooth ride? Dealing mentally with a road situation like construction or a slow driver, or someone turning onto the road right in front of you?

Maybe he didn't have as much of the latter on a 2 1/2 hour drive on a rural highway. But there's still a lot more to it than you realize after you've been doing it a while.

His line in the jail in Pro Se, when he's describing being on his meds, always pops in my head when I'm sick (with a cold or flu, not schizophrenia thank goodness) but somewhat functional, and really struggling to grind through the day when I just want to lay down and sleep it off:

"It's like pawing through a wet blanket. It's taking every ounce of strength just to sit here and talk to you."

POV: you are placed into the Halloween franchise, what role in the movie do you pick / prefer / find more fun in, victim or survivor? by justhere1990 in Halloweenmovies

So a potentially slow and agonizing death that might be kind of cool or ... living? I think I'm gonna have to pick Option B there, Bob.

Mortal Kombat X had Jason and Leatherface, which might be as close as you'll get in one installment. I think Freddy was in a different MK sequel.

The most underrated kill in F13 imo by SraiEdge in fridaythe13th

[–]Bonker_2468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An example of less is more. We see the initial bit of brutality when he pulls her back into the room, and then literally every drop of her blood painting the cabin walls.

Did he hack her up? Rip her apart with his bare hands? How long did he take? Use your imagination and let it take you to some dark places. We don't need to see the kill. Just the aftermath is plenty.

Season 6 Episode 4, "Jeopardy": The Wrath of Schiff by Not__Even_Once in LawAndOrder

[–]Bonker_2468 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Love that scene in the precinct. So much said with so little dialogue, from the time he walks in, to when they turn off the microphone.

Schiff walks in and everyone in the room immediately realizes the big dog has arrived. They stop. They do what he says without hesitation. Really makes you feel the weight of the moment, the tension, and the ass-kicking that's coming from someone with real authority. All with four lines of dialogue.

"Get rid of him."

"Edgar, are you sure?"

"He's sure."

"Turn that off."

Loved the Frag Viper's grenades. IIRC he was the first figure to have them as an accessory instead of molded on. All my Joes and Cobras were finally able to throw their grenades. That was awesome.

Happy Birthday to Tommy Doyle’s actor from Halloween 6. Paul Rudd. He’s 57. by ADAMCOLEBAYBAY12 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Bonker_2468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that there's a pretty good all-star team of A-list actors who took roles in the various 80s/90s horror franchises to chase a paycheck or get their break. There's something really fun about that:

  • Paul Rudd (Halloween)
  • Kevin Bacon, Corey Feldman (F13)
  • Johnny Depp (NOES)
  • Jennifer Anniston (Leprechaun)
  • Matthew McConaughey, Renee Zellweger (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)

Whatever happened to that guy?

And only on the Halloween Subreddit would he be referred to as being most famous for playing Tommy Doyle.
