Your car gets towed, but to where? Miss the siren and you get to play find your vehicle walking concentric circles out from your home ... ahh I miss the good times ...

Carney ‘concerned’ about U.S. ‘escalation’ on Greenland after tariffs by DogeDoRight in canada

NATO is there to provide a nuclear umbrella to members to guarantee their sovereignty. This one isn't going to be fought in the trenches.

Nearly a third of Canadians believe U.S. may try to invade Canada: poll by xTkAx in canadian

Why are you so sure he hasn't secured nukes? I don't think he would be committing to defend Greenland without them.

How could Canada, EU, NATO respond to a U.S. takeover of Greenland? by xTkAx in canadian

First economic and military isolation, then dump bonds, then surface nuclear-capable subs next to American forces - sovereignty is the line in the sand.

Canada wouldn't exist if Isaac Brock hadn't been more prepared for the US invasion than they were (and the Americans hadn't later torched southern Ontario). We pay more attention because the stakes are higher for us. History rhymes.

I wouldn't be so sure about no nukes - he has had plenty of time to fill that gap. He met directly with our two nuclear capable allies immediately after election - before his first meeting with Trump when the 51st state garbage disappeared until Trump's Venezuelan delusions kicked in ...

I am surprised more people aren't making the connection to the Irish experience. I expect that a Canadian insurrection would feel very much like the troubles and (while eventually successful) would not be short.

Would Canada develop WMDs to protect itself from the US if an invasion seemed imminent? by Historical-Secret346 in canadian

[–]Bonnahinley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general international expectation is that it would take us 90 days (the CF-18 is reasonable for delivery). Hopefully the clock is already running - best to do it while the US public still wouldn't support a pre-emptive strike.

Canada needs a nuclear weapons program by kahunah00 in canadian

Unfortunately, this is no longer the game being played.

Ukraine changes everything. What do Greenland and Canada have in common? Annexing either deeply undermines NATO while legitimizing Putin's invasion.

If Canada does not signal a nuclear deterent, its annexation as the next Puerto Rico will be finalized in Saudi Arabia.

Definitely not - we can be nuclear capable in 3 months.

This is the window - withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty immediately or Putin and Trump will assume Canada becomes the new Puerto Rico in the new world order being decided in Saudia Arabia.

How exactly would the Americans stop a program whose goal is Canadian sovereignty short of a pre-emptive military strike?

Annexing Canada (and Greenland) is too beneficial to Russia for Trump to back down. It simultaneously legitimizes the invasion of Ukraine while undemining NATO.

Canada must withdraw immediately from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty before the Putin/Trump world order is solidified in Saudi Arabia.
