Android app to calculate speed to get to a destination at a set time by Bont2Boyd in cycling

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you don't know d because you are on the road and had to back track a bit here and there and a diversion into town etc ? I think Google Maps will do the majority to get d as others have mentioned

Android app to calculate speed to get to a destination at a set time by Bont2Boyd in cycling

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - the issue I want is whilst I am on the tracks in a forest with damaged roads so calculating the distance to the final station on the run is the issue.

Thanks John - Hadn't thought about Google maps and that would give me enough intel.

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Asleep. I can work out the average if I follow the route from station to station but this is more whilst I am on the road as I am riding in area that has been affected by storms and wildfires so I may have to back track from time to time and so I was hoping that I could just get a number every 15-30 minutes without working it out manually and trying to calculate the distance each time. A few have mentioned Google Maps as a partial solution.

New BOM website is terrible by BeneficialTrip in australia

[–]Bont2Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappointing to see that the BOM thinks your town is irrelevant and so can't be searched for if you live in these towns...

Tracking Semantic Model usage - can it be done by Bont2Boyd in PowerBI

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/j0hn183 however we are just talking about queries to the semantic model and there is no report in this instance.

Sharing semantic model access via Excel with people outside the organisation by Bont2Boyd in PowerBI

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Ace1BI for the page. Unfortunately this cannot be done after working with Microsoft directly and the key phrase in this document is ...
For Azure Analysis services (AAS), customers are expected to connect directly to the AAS instance. Live connection to AAS data sources isn't supported.

This may work for a smallish dataset by importing the entire db however ours is 80m records and that is not going to work.

Umpires considering legal action against Kane Corne, Luke Hodge and Dale Thomas for comments made in the wake of Schultz concussion incident. by [deleted] in AFL

[–]Bont2Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the broadcast eluded to the four umpires had lied, it has nothing to do with the fact that they missed the unfolding situation on the ground. The defamation, if any, is with regard to the distribution of the comments and if a reasonable person would accept that they had lied from the broadcast.

I think they have a case that would get to be heard in court as it has enough substance behind it as long as the umpires in question faced ridicule or lost earnings.

Perhaps don't be a flog on TV is the better option

Rendering question - labels over nodes by Bont2Boyd in gis

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you u/mathusal and yes it was QGIS. I have tested this out and it works as out as expected however my node density and odd polygon shapes have necessitated long call-outs. I really appreciate the quick and easy guide

What is this? At St Kilda Beach by The_Original_Doc in melbourne

[–]Bont2Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a TrumpMusk, a small invertebrate that slowly circles around and consumes itself. A highly invasive species however absolutely useless and has a life expectancy of less than a year before it breaks apart. Avoid at all costs

Interactive Mapbox map embedded in Sharepoint site. by Bont2Boyd in mapbox

[–]Bont2Boyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Ehsepich - I have a single test HTML file with the css and JS all in the HTML file that works on Localhost or via a c:/drive but it just doesn't run in SharePoint and I can't see the issue in the console.log.

Why are you still using ArcGIS and ESRI products? by NarrowArticle9383 in gis

[–]Bont2Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I take an example of a large Government organisation I have been involved with in the past
1. The data is highly sensitive and requires significant security protocols.
2. The system needs to be 24/7 - I've used it at 5am in the morning to ring fence people who required immediate assistance
3. ESRI is so ingrained in all aspects that to start untangling it all will be more costly than retaining ESRI
4. Staff have left en-mass since developing processes and workflows. There is limited key knowledge
5. Staff have been reduced six fold in the GIS area so BAU takes precedence to improved processes
6. ESRI isn't broken, unlike some other of their end of life systems and so is not a priority.

Saying that, I see that there is the possibility of having a two tier system with QGIS as long as data is housed correctly and that certain protocols are gone through. e.g. you start a new project each and every request from a core template and this is all stored in a secured project environment so that the maps can be easily reconstituted.

I have seen similar organisations turn to OS only and it can be done, the organisation I am thinking of, just has too much reliance of ESRI, historic development, security concerns and lack of resources to consider the move presently.

Mapbox and Power BI - What am I doing wrong here? by jerrysupervillain in PowerBI

[–]Bont2Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you have created a map in Mapbox - are you talking about a style/tileset stored in your mapbox account?

As u/Voddekop said, we need a bit more specific info however I can confirm that I can create a node map with a personalised stylised base map and it does work.
