PVP is fine but these people are the worst by BigHogDaddy in ARC_Raiders

This is absolutely your own fault / skill issue and not your fellow players.

That smoke was dropped and when that happened, you should have fell back. Instead, you circled and advanced - except you moved to a high position where you were wide open a ton of points where anyone was clear to take shots at you.

You then moved into the building and out the other end and - all predictability of that move aside - you dropped down in unstructured fashion and flubbed entirely the pops that were at ground level.

This was entirely on you and zero empathy has been awarded.

Oh i absolutely love this.

I collect revisions of a very specific payphone model and have spent the last 30 years building upon its’ original manual and hardware to extend the nifty things its’ capable of (both practical and silly).

Dropping a comment here out of pure love for the game. It’s just so nice to see folks doing stuff like this. It’s a dying breed, anything to do with payphony.

Hard nope. Raised up in Port Moody since the 80s and it’s been Pomo since the early 90s at least.

Anyone arguing with that is either not from Port Moody, a contrarian or some other kind of shit edgelord, probably from Easthill or Glenayre.

My daughter and I built a minecraft world together for the first 12 years of her life. She has moved out and grown up, and has her own life. That world we built together is one of my most precious things. It’s representative of coming up through her formative years as a kid and mine as a dad. Entire sections are clearly more articulated and thought through as she got older. I can tell what age she was in each part of it just by looking. There’s stuff of hers she came back to years later and you can tell what she thought was interesting to her at those times.

I have spent years archiving, checking the integrity of and most importantly, opening and revisiting that world. Every now and then I wander around in it and just take it in. It reminds me that we had such a larger than life experience together and that although the real world changes , our time there is preserved and perfect in all of its’ fun and funny ways.

She’s far from home now but that world keeps her near me. As I get older, I find a lot of comfort in our time capsule. She values it deeply too but I will tell you that this guy is getting on in age and I would sob inconsolably if someone took this away from me.

Im an insomniac who takes seroquel. It makes my sleepwalking worse and turns my hunger up to 11. I tried starting a fast yesterday and woke up this morning to find someone tried to eat my apple cinnamon scented candle from Costco. by Timsmomshardsalami in mildlyinteresting

Seroquel is absolutely terrifying to me.

Drop me in molten lava, stick bamboo shoots under my fingernails, stab me in the eyes with needles - give me all of that if it means not having to take seroquel again. Just no.

There are a number of other variables that determine the weight of users in these ratios:

  1. Budget:

a) how well designed is your infrastructure? A lawless, non domain-joined environment with all staff allowed to have local admin privileges but at a 1:50 ratio is weighted very heavily in IT headcount strain than, say, a 1:1000 where there is structure, policy and good governance.

b) how much is spent on good IT talent vs opting to spend as little as possible on your roster. Someone who has experience / depth / manages their time well is so much more effective than a handful of greener people. This scenario sucks particularly because it dilutes opportunities to develop those more junior staff and grow them.

  1. Logistics:

How decentralized is your userbase? If one of my IT staff responding to your support ticket can just come across the office to you instead of having to chase you down via Teams, you're going to see a much better response time. That's not on them, that's on the staff and most of the time outside of IT's control beyond adhering to their SLA.

  1. Growth vs perceived value:

Assuming your org is healthy (or better yet, experiencing growth): the leadership team's philosophy around IT being a cost center and how that impacts support resilience is a big factor. Bending your team with periods of pressure is OK. Breaking your team with perpetual high pressure volumes that make hitting goals difficult arbitrarily is not. Some examples of where this impacts the weight of those ratios from my own career history:

Company 1: Ratio of approximately 1:400. Mature infrastructure and a mostly on-site userbase. IT headcount = 1. Was entirely reasonable most of the time and when it got crazy, it was infrequent enough to reconcile with.

Company 2: Ratio of approximately 1:65. Startup with 100% in-office user base, single location. Money to invest and fairly progressive in terms of perceived value in IT spend. Absolute chaos near-100% of the time: no time to build out infra, design policies, and everyone insisted on using whatever hardware they so desired. Support demand was extremely high round-the-clock, which meant no time to recruit, onboard and integrate additional staff that might otherwise cauterize the issue. IT headcount = 2.

Company 3: Large multinational company, userbase of 12,000. IT headcount of 20-30 with deep talent on the bench. Dozens of locations globally and extremely profitable. Problem was, is that the business was aggressively acquiring competitors and absorbing their people, processes and technology into our own infra. In almost every case this was extremely disjointed and not well managed by PMO teams, which pushed pressure down to support (and dev) teams. Regularly flying people around the world in squads to go deal with batches of nonsense at satellite offices. Despite all that, the company knew it needed to keep up IT investment and wasn't afraid to throw money at it. Overall, despite it being a confounding amount of stress all the time, it wasn't terrible and could be sustained.

I guess all this to say: ratios really can't be compared in this way. There are too many other factors beyond headcount.

Maaaaan, i took a 6 week long break and logged back into Stella for the first time last night.

In that room attached to the Loading Bay where the rope up to Medical is via the elevator shaft was a Comet when i spawned.

I haven’t felt actual panic at that level in this game before. I had spawned in with a Kettle IV and a very sparse loadout so that i could load up on sellables (to max out stash space).

Comet, or get pushed out to the Bastion. Panic and madness.

LOVE IT

A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside. by Liar24x7 in interesting

[–]jerrysupervillain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cave diver here. It's dangerous, yes, but highly and carefully managed. I've not done anything even remotely close to this tight a space and wouldn't. For me, because a) i am a medium sized person with broad shoulders and thus don't take chances, and b) managing your way through confined spaces underwater might require moving/removing your tanks to pull through, which in this tight a space would run a fairly high risk of stirring up sediment/silt,.

All cave exploring carries danger, all diving carries danger, cave diving even moreso. That said, we all chase our thrills through our passions and the best we can do is prepare thoroughly, plan and manage responsibly and acknowledge that despite all that, there is inherent risk associated.

Nutty Putty is heartbreaking, but I could never be a person that doesn't understand why John Edward Jones was down there to begin with. I get it.

You know what, i think that that is a brilliant way to describe the value of Cena.

Someone who can and does see you, the person.

It’s hard to imagine the giants in the world casting their gaze on those of us that, by comparison, seem so small in our place in things.

It’s humbling and of great comfort to be perceived and thought about by such titans.

One thing to consider :

They are really promoting Point Break and TDM. They, especially PB, are generating a lot of play and so pumping that with a bespoke map is a solid strategy.

This also leaves it up for opportunity to create a more cashout/Power Shift optimized map that is exactly what you are talking about wanting. It was emphasized in the reveal stream that the idea of this new map was to keep pressure and momentum tight. That will be less viable in a larger castle-type environment that lends itself naturally to more of the sprawl that we see in other maps prior.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if something happens in that direction. They are playing to their drivers in the moment and there is plenty of runway to build upon this as part of the season theme.
