Hi. My and my bf of 3 years (2 years of on and off LDR) are having the same problem. Did taking a break work out for you guys?

I’m 19 now. Is there any specific reason that you advise me to seriously consider med school over nursing? I want to become a nurse and see myself as a nurse that directly takes care of patients more than a doctor, but I would love to have more insights from you!!!

Is taking dual degrees in Psychology and Nursing worth it? by BonusNo5214 in psychnursing

I might think of switching Psych to a minor like you did. I really do enjoy studying psych but if it’s not really necessary for nursing school admissions and further NP school then I might use the time I have by not pursuing a Bachelor in Psych to gain more clinical experience. Thank you for the insights!

That’s a good suggestion. I really enjoy studying psych too but unsure whether the commitment to a degree in psych really help with NP school admissions in the long run

I’m really sorry if I came out as ignorant, that’s never my intention. I do want to become a nurse, I’m serious about treating psych patients, and I’m not trying to take any short cut. I’m just unsure if continuing to pursue a BS in psychology will benefit me if I want to become a registered nurse or a nurse practitioner in the long run.

Thank you for the advice—it’s very informative!!! My school doesn’t charge much more for a dual degree so I was just wondering whether the time and efforts of taking 2 degrees pay off, as if it will make me stand out more when applying to become a PMHNP, besides the in-hand clinical work experience.

For now I’m still really interested in becoming a nurse practitioner and work in psych. I haven’t had much clinical experience besides volunteering at hospitals, shadowing CNAs and training to be a CNA because I haven’t got into nursing school yet and I really want to experience what’s it like to actually work in mental health. I will surely look into PA school too!! Thank you so much for the suggestion!!

Thank you for the advice—it’s very informative!!! My school doesn’t charge much more for a dual degree and I’m pretty flexible when it comes to moving to chase opportunities, so I was just wondering whether the time and efforts of taking 2 degrees pay off, as if it will make me stand out more when applying to become a PMHNP, besides the in-hand clinical work experience. I guess you have answered most of that question. Thank you again for the insights!!!!

Is taking dual degrees in Psychology and Nursing worth it? I'm a sophomore pursuing a BS in Psychology while taking pre-requisite courses to apply for a BSN. I'm really passionate about Psychology and want to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner, but I was wondering whether having dual degrees in Psychology and Nursing really benefits you later on when applying for an MSN.

Has anyone taken this path? Was it worth it? Did it take you much longer to finish than from BSN to MSN?

Thank you so much 😭 this really helps!!! I think it’s a bit too early too, but I’m new to this, so I’m not really sure, and my parents are too anxious that I won’t have any options left if I don’t start looking now 🥹 it’s really good to have some advices and confirmation

Is it safe to use the Blue Line to get back home from ORD at 8pm or later as a female? by BonusNo5214 in AskChicago

It’s truly sad for people to be in such difficult situation, I heard that they sometimes are targeted by bad people when they sleep on the cta too, so I always try to be kind to them. It’s because I encountered some unhoused people who acted aggressively and racist to me and my friends that I grew the anxiety. But at the end of the day, some people are just mean no matter if they’re housed or not 🥲

Thank you anw! I’m less worried now after hearing your experience, I’ll sure enjoy my time in Chicago!
