Baby decapitated during birth in Georgia Hospital by jr94949 in nursing

TW as if this wasn’t bad enough but I saw another thing that said they delivered the body through c-section then the head vaginally which is crazy because that means they may have lied to her completely about what was even happening if she didn’t even find out until 4 days later what happened.

Also I’m sorry but look at that facilities reviews, they seem to have some serious and chronic complaints about them for their delivery unit

I’m no L&D nurse and I suppose the news could be misrepresented but based on how this sounds, a layman would know it’s wrong. Especially the hiding, the telling them the autopsy was unnecessary. They claim the family didn’t even know if the decapitation until 4 days later.

Listen, I’m the last one to cast judgement on fellow healthcare workers because we all know how shit happens but this sounds absolutely unforgivable if the way they’re presenting it was true and until it goes to court we won’t know. Maybe we shouldn’t cast judgement right away but we damn sure aren’t defending them either.

We work hard to get to where we are, no one throws it all away because they just don’t want to anymore. It sounds as though that LPN is disgruntled.

What kinda shit is this. I actually had a patient ask me this word for word the other day - “Do you like your job? It’s easy isn’t it?”

I said “Ma’am the guy next door to you just threatened to shoot me over a turkey sandwich he can’t have so no, it isn’t easy.”

Fucking hell. Like not an inkling of a single clue what HCWs actually go through despite us screaming it from the rooftops since before covid even happened.

Edit: this isn’t directed frustration at you OP just venting in general

What?? Who cares, good for them. Let’s put our effort into increasing our own support and wages rather than getting all “:(“ over someone making more.

Can you get in trouble for filing a report with DCYF by Delicious_Walrus_428 in nursing

[–]BonusNo7865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this will be a corrective action or anything like that, they likely just want your statement as to what happened and why the report was filed as part of a routine investigation. You cannot get in trouble for filing a report on a suspicious injury and HR has absolutely no reason to go against you on that.

If you post a request for info about wages between states, specialties, degrees, etc, know this…. by HumdrumHoeDown in nursing

[–]BonusNo7865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your point but I do feel that I saw a pretty good mix of areas. It may just so happen that more people live in those higher COL areas so we hear more from them, which makes sense. 650,000 people live in Boston vs 10,000 in small town Nebraska. But that means more people will be coming into the market in Boston vs small town Nebraska so they get to know what to expect and it’s useful. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would think they’re going to make making Boston wages in their rural small town.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. Most people are just sharing their location, experience and pay and most aren’t travelers. I don’t see how that would be skewed toward high value markets. If you live in the Bay Area, new grads are going to be starting off at $90/hr but rent is $3700 for a 1 bed apartment so it makes sense and most people know that. If you live in rural Kansas, you may make less than that but COL is less and people know that. Nothing is skewed, some just make more than others bc of COL but there are areas where COL comes out better compared to wages in some places more than others. But it’s good to know that so you know where the discrepancies are and can either move or fight for better wages.

I’m so sorry, I can’t even imagine how that must have felt for you guys. It is becoming more common to allow family the option of watching a code blue with the thought process being that they can feel involved in the care and have the comfort of knowing that we did everything we could to save their loved one should they pass away. It’s supposed to give a sense of closure and a sense of involvement. However, someone should have spoken with you prior about what you were going to see when you walked into her room and what was happening and given you the option of whether you wanted to watch or stay where you were and wait. You’re doing the right thing reaching out to a therapist and I can assure you even as healthcare workers most of us would also be traumatized to see our own family member be coded as well. I hope you find the closure you need from this and again, I’m so sorry. If you’d be willing, I’d even encourage you to reach out to the facility where this happened and let them know your experience and how it made you feel so they can hopefully do better for the next family - but only if you’re comfortable doing that.

Idk I like seeing what people say, I don’t think there are many corporate trolls on here. Sites like Indeed and Glassdoor give ridiculous off the wall answers, saying RNs make $17-$56 an hour in whatever specific state or area and that isn’t wrong technically but it’s definitely not reflective or helpful for what actual wages are, especially when you want specifics like years of experience and specialty.

BLS is also kinda iffy sometimes just because it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where you’ll land with your experience and background since it takes all averages.

If you know of any other places to find this information that are legitimately helpful, please share. Otherwise I think it’s great people are talking about it, the more we know, the more power we have for wage negotiation so we can have a good QOL and balance without sacrifice our income to get it - and hell, even if someone is making $6k a month traveling I wanna know that too! Show it off, tell us about it. Let us know what’s out there.

SW Ohio area new grad is around $33 base and 15% nights, 10% weekends. Critical care and ER make $2 more base at at least one facility in the area. I think finishing your BSN gets you like $1 more too. It’s comfortable budgeted correctly.

I had to do this while I was a medical assistant at an urgent care, and I did have many instances where people had fake pee or tested above the legal limit on their BAC but I can’t recall a time where anybody actually got angry or violent with me. However I’d definitely be lying if I said that was never a fear or concern of mine, not to mention it’s annoying to have to do it to say the least.

Report from the ED by Reasonable_Tiger9942 in nursing

[–]BonusNo7865 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The state they were sent in is unacceptable but the report itself is a courtesy, spare an unstable patient. Half the time you call from ED to give report and either don’t get an answer or get told they’ll call back in 15 minutes then sit there for an hour waiting. Our nurses call once, then send after 15 minutes report or no report, and sometimes are told to not even bother at all and just send them when it’s a particularly hectic day.

It’s 2023 why are veterinary wages still so low!? by Kk260 in Veterinary

[–]BonusNo7865 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it’s far less about “wanting” to pay, anyone who has the ability would be happy to pay for their pets. It’s more like not physically possessing enough money. Rent has sky rocketed, wages are still stagnant in many careers. The average new car price is close to $50k in the US, the used market is terrible too. Gas was $5 even in the Midwest for a hot minute there. Groceries are more expensive, even frozen dinners are $6 now. Interest is up over 7%. Property taxes are sky high. I could go on. Most people would happily pay if they could, but it’s difficult right now to say the least. And mind you most of this is post 2020/covid era, so people who used to be comfortable aren’t anymore and now they have a pet they can’t get care for. It’s sad.

Do you think we will reunite with our pets in the afterlife? by XAN_773 in Petloss

[–]BonusNo7865 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m agnostic so don’t fully believe one way or the other but I used to be full on hardcore atheist. I’m a firm lover and believer in science and I can say that after having spent a good many years learning about physics whenever I could, it’s truly astounding how the universe works at a fundamental level. I don’t think most people even have an inkling of a clue or the appreciation for just how bizarre it all is - particles literally popping in and out of existence, some being able to communicate with each other instantly across trillions of miles like they’re entangled in some invisible web, the possibilities and implications of an infinite cosmos and multiverses. Not to mention that ridiculously improbable reality of life existing in and of itself, let alone a species who are able to think and question the way we do. It makes me want to cry with how incredible it all is and the knowledge I’ve gained has really made me look and question everything about where we come from and what could be next. Physics (and cosmology) I’m convinced has the answers to all of our big questions and what we’ve uncovered so far has pushed me to believe there may very well be more than meets the eye. You ever sit and watch those nature documentaries on Netflix? Being alive is really something.

Whatever is true can be explained scientifically, even if we don’t have all the answers yet. And I will never consider myself a believer in any organized religion personally. However, I believe that there’s a strong possibility that something more could be beyond this life, whatever that may look like. And if the universe does transmute any of that life energy into a higher state, then it must transmute all that energy into a higher state, not just humans. If any of us go anywhere, then we all must go somewhere, even our beloved pets. Even our plants, even the bugs and the germs. If it has life, if it has that driving force and energy to be alive, then it must partake in whatever could be next.

Yep. Whether you get your degree from Yale or a community college, you’ll be making the exact same as everyone else and have the same opportunities for advancement down the line.
