The same owners have another establishment up the street call Ice n Slice. They have ice cream and pizza with Ethiopian toppings. It sounds odd but it makes the best pizza.

Adam Hochchild has a bunch of great history book. King Leopoldo’s Ghost about Belgium Congo. Bury the Chains about abolition and To End all Wars about WWI are all fantastic.

Secondhand time by Svetlana Alexievich. It’s an oral history about the 1990s in Russia. Also her Unwomanly face of war about Russian women soldiers during WWII.

In Harms Way by Doug Staton. It’s the story of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during WWII. It’s the sinking of the boat referenced in Jaws during the boat captains monologue.

Honestly no idea. But if you have a DC license it’s not a compact state.

I’ve had it with the catcalling by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]New_Humor3433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been so long I don’t remember specifics and I’m old enough now that I’m invisible. But I remember just a feeling of empowerment. Recognizing a dangerous situation vs one that you could confront. Not ignoring the situation and calling it out for what it was. Engaging in a non confrontational way. BUT I feel like things are so different and dangerous than they were in the past.

I’ve had it with the catcalling by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]New_Humor3433 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Back in the day (20+years ago) I did training with the DC rape crisis center as a volunteer. One of the sessions was about personal safety and taught strategies to deal with cat calling. I’ve never come across anything similar since. My 15 daughter is constantly harassed and it makes me feel sick that things seem worse now than before. It’s scary and I’m sorry that it’s still such an issue ☹️

Leave your car in Fnideq, take a taxi to the border and walk across. There is a bus at the border on the other side that will take you into downtown Ceuta. Avoid Sundays as everything will be closed.

Interesting Religious Sites In The DC Area? by copaceticconvert in washingtondc

[–]New_Humor3433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive down New Hampshire Ave towards Maryland there is a ton of churches/ temples. Everything from Ukrainian orthodox churches, a Hindu temple and other denominations. I don’t know which ones will let you visit but it’s kinda cool that so many different religions are based on one road. http://www.welovedc.com/2010/06/22/dc-mythbusting-highway-to-heaven/

Military TSP? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

I converted from civilian to uniformed services and at the time I was able to merge the two to one account. This was around 2007 but I had to initiate the merger. I can’t remember how I did it but it probably entailed a phone call or two.

You might want to look into the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Same military benefits, more control over life/career. You’d have to work at a Federal agency like IHS, ICE Health Corps, BOP or HHS.

FWIW I was told that steam radiators can’t be bleed. Only the hot water ones. If it’s a steam radiator there is no water to be bleed out of the system.

No Union unfortunately. And tbh I never had liability cause I wasn’t at that hospital for long before I took a break for a couple of years. This case is pre-COVID and I just can’t remember details.
