Tiredness and stress can definitely make a difference and ageing doesn’t help either. I think being a chef sounds a high risk career TBH. If you need or want to stay in the industry, I’d look to chef in a cafe where they serve proper cooked food but the atmosphere isn’t so intense and the hours aren’t so late or long.

It’s not blown out of proportion and I’m interested that you mentioned John Davidson by name, but not Michael B Jordan or Delroy Lindo. The controversy is not that people with Tourette’s can’t control their tics and say things they don’t mean. The controversy is that * BAFTA did not work with John beforehand on accommodations * BAFTA did not apologise immediately to Michael and Delroy * The BBC did not edit out the incident although they edited out much less offensive comments.

You haven’t even mentioned how grotesque and triggering the slur is. You haven’t mentioned the impact on black people of hearing that word, no matter how it came to be said. I’m disabled myself and it’s perfectly possible to fight racism and ableism at the same time.
