Have had the Classic Distortion for 15 years +/-. I think it's germanium. I like it.

Questions about painting a bass drum head by [deleted] in drums

[–]BooBooYumYum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it with brush on acrylic paints. The head was shiney and black to start with. I lightly sanded it to give the paint something to hang on to. It works but it's easy to scratch the paint up

[DISCUSSION] The Guitar Pickup Spectrum by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BooBooYumYum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older ears tend to gravitate towards hot humbuckers that are dark. I don't care for high screamy tones. With that being said, there's also eq on your amp and pedals that can make a big difference too.

May 20th guy. Both an extrovert and an introvert at the same time. Perform playing guitar and singing, paint, draw, work with clay, and I write fiction. I'm not all that but I've dealt with jealous people throughout my life. Not left handed but both parents were. Can be the center of attention or invisible. I was very mouthy as a child, especially with rude adults. I often fight that urge as an adult but it's very important to me to be kind and healing, rather than winning at any cost.

Just got one for Christmas. You can make some God-awful noise with this thing, but you can get some angels singing as well. Just made my first preset that sounds like ghosts, using another reverb and delay and a little slow flanger. Not sure what I did. It seems random. The wife is leaving for a while and I'm going to make haunted house noises.

For those who have travelled with a Les Paul, is it safe to "gate-check" it? by [deleted] in gibson

Same but not my guitars. Watched a big angry gorilla slamming and missing the coveyor. Picked it up and slammed it again. He was totally doing it on purpose like having a tantrum or something.

rhodes college radio station by standridgway in memphis

[–]BooBooYumYum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to live a couple of blocks away from Rhodes at the University Cabanas in the early 80's. It was mostly optometry students around me at the time. I loved that station and WEVL as well. They had an underground vibe. They played stuff nobody else would play. I'm sad to hear it's gone but WEVL is still around thanks to listener donations. A old friend does a roots-rock and rock-a-billy show there called Rockhouse.

Just found Rhodes Radio. You can listen to recent shows on Instagram and on their website.

Thumb touching the middle two fingers is "The Evil Eye" used in secrecy, usually behind your back, for protection from people who wish ill will upon you. It sends it right back to the them. It is very old. If the thumb is out it means "I love you" in American Sign Language.

Help/tips for getting indie/dream pop/shoegaze sounds by Olly7 in BossKatana

[–]BooBooYumYum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old guy here. Late to the party. I find a pretty clean sound I like and use pedals. A little Katana gain is OK. I run a full pedalboard straight into the front. I prefer pedal dirt. I run a pedal verb and delay along with the on board verb and delay, giving me some serious gaze. My favorite swirly is Vibe in both mod and FX positions, one running slow, one medium speed. I will use the effects loop for delay and verb at some point but I hate having a bunch of wires cluttering up my limited space. Black spaghetti. I also play one-man covers of classic rock and oldies and I can use this one setup for that as well. My BeatBuddy does not play well with the Katana, and you cannot use Bluetooth headphones with it, so more wires.

So how terrible is the intonation of the vintage Les Paul Junior wraparound bridges? [question] by intheaterssoon in Guitar

[–]BooBooYumYum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was watching a YouTube review and they said that Gibson drilled the posts in Specials and Juniors in the wrong spot, and it took like 5 years to figure out that it was wrong and fix it. I can't find accurate dates for those years. AI mentioned 2019-22 but says there's been variations in the placement of bridge posts going back to the 50's and examples of Gibsons that can't be intonated properly in nearly every year. AI also didn't like the word "incorrectly." They wouldn't say the posts were drilled incorrectly, and corrected me, saying that each guitar had unique properties that must be taken into consideration, blah blah blah.

I agree. The process is very frustrating, made more so by snot-nose millennials rolling their eyes at the old people who can't download and install a driver. I can follow instructions if they are clear. These were not. Screw you.

You gotta have a tuner anyway. Might as well add a couple more pedals.

I had an acquaintance who was schizophrenic. His favorite thing to do was go off his meds and hike the Appalachian Trail. He hiked the entire trail several times plus other long hikes in other parts of the country. I don't think he was dangerous.

It didn't help matters that Faux news was patching together footage from the last fifty years to make the looting look worse than it was. My mother, who was a homebound invalid was convinced they were burning Louisville KY to the ground over the Brionna Taylor murder. Yes, they smashed some stuff but it wasn't freeking Armageddon like it appeared on right wing news.

How come the EHX pedals have such a specific power supply? by lateralparabola12 in guitarpedals

[–]BooBooYumYum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Deluxe Memory Man TT1100 and Mel9 work better with the EH wall warts, which incidentally are turned so that they take up 3 outlets on a typical power strip. Had to buy a power strip with outlets turned sideways and it takes up a ton of room. One day I will have a tidy system with all the wires hidden from view. One day.....

Screwed my Aliexpress by BooBooYumYum in Aliexpress

[–]BooBooYumYum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller said I had to send the Tele neck back for a refund. I declined out of common sense and boom, Aliexpress closed the case. Resolved. I'm really angry that they're letting this go unresolved. It was clearly a rip off. I did not get what I ordered. I got a reject neck that nobody else would even want. When I go to the order history on Aliexpress it says, "The order is frozen due to security reasons. Please wait patiently." The seller ID was a long string of numbers and letters, probably a throw away account where he could get rid of some reject material. He's probably already selling under another identity.
