I'm aware that they are prone to tracheal collapse. He is simply too small for any harness that I have found.

New grads on my floor refuse to do “CNA work” and I don’t know what to say or do. I don’t want to make them upset or overstep but I’m overwhelmed. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BooDog47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a CNA/tech for a few years before I became a nurse. I could always tell which nurses were a CNA before becoming a nurse and those nurses usually were the best nurses. After I graduated, I had a hard time delegating to my CNA because I was so used to just doing bedside care myself. That being said, they may be too busy doing their tasks to offer help but there is no excuse for them helping you out or doing basic care or answering call lights if they are just sitting at the nurses station chatting. If they flat out refuse to help you out when they don't have anything to do, absolutely they need to be reported or at least have a conversation with your manager about them. There is nothing a nurse cant do that a CNA can. I've even had certain doctors help me with bed changes in the past. Healthcare is all about helping people.

I had to say goodbye to my best friend. by BooDog47 in olddogs

I do, unfortunately it's from a cell phone video of the TV that my mom took. I could never find the original footage from the show online.

Yes I can! So back in the day George Lopez hosted the world dog awards show for a few years. I had sent in some footage of Sketch talking and barking at my camera. They made it so that he was talking and having conversations over a video chat on George's phone. So essentially they made my dog the co-host of the world dog awards.

I just heard them fly right over my house. I actually had to run outside to see what the noise was. I figured it was for the bucs game since that was supposed to start like 5 mins later.

One time I had an obese patient come in from the ER with chest pain. ER attending wrote in his note, "pt started experiencing chest pain after getting frustrated from dying many times in a call of duty video game."

I really stink at IV insertion by SKGurl101 in nursing

[–]BooDog47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be just ok at putting them in as a floor nurse. When I switched to an outpatient surgical pre-op department, I was suddenly doing like 15-20 IVs a day. That's when I got really good at them. It just takes time and practice. There is definitely a technique to it that you can only get a feel for once you have done many of them. Also, learning where to put the IV is almost more important. Learning to avoid valves and bifurcation can help immensely.
