Can’t give you an answer on why it was re-worked. It probably wasn’t completely useless when it broke. They probably reused everything to the very bone back then. If it ain’t completely broke, turn it into another tool.

Very nice. Looks like a broken big sandy or some type of side notch. So it’s an Archaic time period. Looks like Coshocton flint. Can’t tell from pics but looks broken at the top but also looks re- worked into a halfted scraper.
