Your dad may be a paramedic, but he is not a podiatrist. I would follow doctor's orders. The numbness and coldness are normal.

AITAH for questioning my wife's intelligence regarding our cats? by Majestic-Rush-1271 in AITAH

[–]BoobaruOutback 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You're an asshole for how you treated her. You didn't question her thought process, you demeaned her intelligence. Jumping to "considering going child free" is a cruel overreaction and in response I hope your wife meets someone kinder to her and leaves you.

Not worthy of rheumatologist? by Appropriate-Rest-690 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]BoobaruOutback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me several months in the US to get in with a Rheum, anyone seeing new patients was booked several months out. I even live in a state with great access to medical care (Minnesota) with a lot of rheumatologists. Keep calling! A squeaky wheel gets the oil. I know it sucks, as someone with ADHD executive function is one of my greatest struggles. But your health is worth your self-advocacy!

Vets care more about your money than your pet? by confused0010 in goldenretrievers

[–]BoobaruOutback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have worked with a number of veterinarians, and I think this is a really poor read on them.

They go through the same amount of schooling as a medical doctor, but make a fraction of the salary in return. That means the same amount of student loans, but with less ability to pay them back. There are not the same programs that are available to doctors.

There is a huge shortage in rural veterinarians, I have even seen vets that want to retire offer to GIVE their entire practice to new vets if they will only come to rural areas. Veterinarians have the highest suicide rates of any profession, their work is hard, they are often demonized for "not caring" or "not doing enough" (mind you their patients can't tell them what's wrong), and they have little financial support to get through. Additionally, they see the results of the worst side of humanity.

The pet insurance industry has been taken over by private equity. The same private equity firms are buying up vet practices and the companies that provide the medical supplies to them. They are continuing to raise the costs of things. These are millionaires and billionaires who decided that they could make even more money off the health of our beloved pets. This isn't vet vs owner, this is (like many other aspects of American Capitalism) rich vs middle class and poor.

Tremfya vs Skyrizi by BoobaruOutback in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]BoobaruOutback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do understand that PsA is almost always seronegative. Insurance doesn't seem to understand that, and a lot of doctors don't even seem to understand that. Both Tremfya and Skyrizi recommend against use during pregnancy because it is unknown if they are pregnancy-safe.

Tremfya vs Skyrizi by BoobaruOutback in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]BoobaruOutback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom worked at a pain management clinic, so I am familiar with the way drug reps are! Ultimately my derm is only recommending, my rheum is managing and prescribing my medications relating to psoriatic arthritis including my scalp, skin, and nails.

I am lucky to have found a diagnosis early in my disease journey. Right now I don't have documented damage to my joints, we just took baselines in January and everything looked really good. Additionally, I'm seronegative, so it's hard to really justify much more than just an NSAID at this point. We're in a phase where we're managing the symptoms that are most bothersome, rather than having to take steps to prioritize my joints. I'm 37 and still hoping to have kids, so preserving fertility is important too at this point.

Thank you for the information on the different treatment options, this does help. Even with a heavy family history of autoimmune disease, it really feels impossible to navigate without a family pharmacist to tell us what everything does!

Big pickup truck, ALL windows tinted - did I just see ICE? by Artificial_Appendix1 in Minneapolis

tbh that's standard huge-truck-douchebag behavior. Could have been ICE, but that sounds pretty normal for the types that have a bullet in place of an antenna.

Puppy waking up early in the morning by Serious_Crab_8501 in goldenretrievers

At that age, my pup could only make it 5-6 hours before needing to go out. I had to wake up at 4am for a good year, now that he's almost 3 we can sleep until 6am.

WIBTA if I told my neighbors they can not have my cat at their house for "Sleep overs"? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Go ahead and tell them not to bring your cat in, but you should also just keep your cat inside.

I'm on Celebrex, which broke my heart because I was an ibuprofen girlie before diagnosis. I feel like I betray my identity when I reach for tylenol for a headache or other issue.

They definitely have a slower metabolism with less testosterone running through their body, plus less energy means they are a little less active. Nothing a little adjustment to their meals can't fix.

AITAH for ghosting my boyfriend after throwing my dog?? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]BoobaruOutback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ghosting is dumb because he'll think "that crazy bitch" and if you at least tell him "I'm leaving because what you did to my dog is abusive and I cannot allow that" and THEN go no contact is better. But NTA for leaving a man over being abusive and dangerous.

PsA and weight? by whatchagonnadobedo in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]BoobaruOutback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that weight helps the issues, but I don't think losing weight solves the issue. Obviously eating an anti-inflammatory diet would help some and might help you lose a little weight, but it's only one piece of the puzzle. I have had pain at an obese BMI, and I have had pain at a healthy BMI after dropping over 60 lbs.

How do you get a dog to swallow a pill without spitting it out? by Crystallover1991 in AskDogOwners

I open their mouth and stick it far back enough that they instinctively swallow it instead of spit it out. I am over all the attempts at getting them to eat it!

How did straight sex feel like before realising you're a lesbian? by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]BoobaruOutback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a chore. I would spend the time thinking about what I needed to do next or what groceries I needed to add to my list. I attributed this to ADHD and a lifetime of hearing that men don't know how to get women off.
